In two years as the starting quarterback at North, George Gresko has thrown 639 passes — completing 359 of them for 5,180 yards and 53 touchdowns — but perhaps none were as pressure-packed as the 13 he threw last weekend.

Gresko was invited to participate in the U.S. Army National Combine at the Alamodome in San Antonio from January 6-8. Five hundred of the nation's top high school football underclassmen gathered in San Antonio for the three-day event, held annually in association with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Among a group of 100 of the country's top underclassmen QBs, and with scouts, college recruiters and representatives of recruiting Web sites in attendance, Gresko completed 10 of his 13 throws in 1-on-1 drills. "I threw every route you can think of," Gresko said. "Hitch, post, post-corner, go route, out. We threw them all.

"The experience was unreal, and I think the competition was the best part of the weekend, and it will be big for me this summer and next year."

Gresko has already received interest from Cincinnati, and he took an unofficial visit to the campus and to see the Bearcats play last fall. This summer, he will get even more exposure as he plans on participating in combines at Ohio State and Pitt.

Gresko will return to the varsity field in Northeast Ohio to kick off his senior season Aug. 26 when North hosts Brush in Week 1 of the 2011 campaign.
