Trinity High School junior-to-be Darryl Hicks (photo) played for the Tennessee Travelers AAU team and had a big weekend at the Nike event in Los Angeles. He had 51 points - including 19 of 25 shooting - according to a Rivals.com report that called him "sizzling" in a two-game stretch on Sunday. Hicks has now been invited to the Nike Elite 100 event that will be held June 9-12 in St. Louis

With plenty of young talent in the state of Kentucky it’s tough to figure out just who is at the top of the line in each class.

Most rankings would have Bullitt East star Derek Willis.

But Rick Bolus of High Potential Scouting Service has Willis, a former Purdue commitment now looking at Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana, as the second-best underclassman in the state behind Trinity’s Darryl Hicks (photo).

The 6-foot-4 Hicks sat out his sophomore season after transferring from Shelby County and will be a junior this season for the Shamrocks.

Central’s D’Angelo Russell, considered one of the top 15 sophomores in the country, is No. 3 on the listing followed by Ballard sophomore Quentin Snider - a Louisville commitment - Henry Clay sophomore Trey Grundy and Dixie Heights sophomore Brandon Hatton.

Sheldon Clark sophomore Justin Johnson checks in next, followed by Lafayette sophomore Jackson Davis, Bryan Station junior Larry Morton, Paducah Tilghman junior Darius Brown, Madison Central junior Dominique Hawkins and Henry Clay sophomore Jordan Green.

The state’s top "sleeper" is Tates Creek 6-foot-10 junior Darius Lewis.

Among those in the "second 12″ is Perry County Central eighth-grader Braxton Beverly.

Any update on Hicks? I know he was one of the main targets at one point, did he reclassify wasn't he originally a 2012?

I'd consider him a UofL lean as of now

In an article last week he said that the local teams weren't as interested anymore.

...Hicks said he’s not going to make a college decision until sometime after this next AAU season, but he noted the interest is picking up.

Vanderbilt and and Cincinnati both came to watch him last month in Lexington during the Republic Bank Holiday Classic. He went two weeks ago on an unofficial visit to Vandy.

“I liked it a lot,” he said. “The offense is for shooters and I think I could really adjust to it. But I try not to think too much about (his decision) right now.”

Hicks had an early offer from Indiana and noted he has recently added offers from South Carolina, Boston College and Florida International.

He said Indiana “is still showing interest,” and also mentioned Georgia and Auburn.

But as far as the locals, Hicks said he hasn’t heard from either in a while.

“Kentucky and Louisville are not as interested as they once were,” he said. “But everything is going good for me right now.”

I'm just telling you what I've heard so far in his recruitment now if they backed off then thats something totally different than what I'm hearing.

Cincinnati and Vanderbilt were in to see '13 Darryl Hicks of Trinity; Cincy also stopped by Ballard for open gym.

Interesting we are getting back to recruiting Hicks. Us and Indiana were the favorites a while ago but we cooled on him. Pretty sure he had a good high school season.

Heard he played decently in Indy. His recruitment really interests me and it's good to see him getting his groove back.
