.@Mainestory is considering #stjbb, Cincinnati and UNLV, with sources telling @SNYtv #stjbb is the leader

Edit, what he meant to say was St. John's upped their offer to $20,000. :) #Lavin is a poor man's John Calipari

Not surprising if he would choose St. Johns. Close to home, and a young upcoming team, and Lavin has had players go to the NBA.

My father-in-law is a huge UCLA fan and when I asked about Lavin, he says "Great recruiter...but he's a buffoon." This is all much funnier because my father-in-law is a Japanese American with an accent.

I don't think Lavin is a version of Calipari. No sanctions against any of his programs and LA and NYC should be easy places to recruit to.

I was chatting with another fan tonight and he told me that Maine is tight with Lance, and supposedly Lance loves Mick and is working on Maine for UC. I wasn't aware of the friendship, heck I'll take all the help we can get. Anyone else heard this?

I didn't know we were recruiting a kid from Maine. :D

Well they said UC was the leader for Obekpa for a while and we saw what that got us. So I wouldn't put too much weight on what a reporter says.

^ Well maybe we can get the Lavin paid Lawrence out of the way now so if he does commit to SJU we won't need 10 pages devoted to the non-sense.

I think getting players to the NBA is helpful when recruiting against the Cats.

St. John's might be in a pattern of getting 1-2 great recruits a year only to lose them the next year or year after. Just like Harkless declared for the draft last year, I wouldn't be shocked if Harrison did this year and possibly Sampson.

It will be interesting comparing their team success over the next few years compared to the Cats who seem to be getting lesser regarded recruits that stay all 4 years.

After next season UC is in the Big East (maybe ACC); St. John's is in the Catholic 7 plus 5. Will never play again.

They're not falling of the face of the earth though. It might not be an apples to apples comparison with the same league competition, but you'll still be able to gauge if they are improving or staying relatively the same.

SPARTA, N.J. — It’s Saturday night in this small town and 6-foot-10 Jermaine Lawrence can be easily recognized walking into the gym at Pope John XIII High School for the first annual Living Hope Festival to Benefit Cancer Research.

Lawrence walks over to join his teammates, shaking hands with students and faculty as if he were a politician.

Eventually, the Pope John players head into the locker room, leaving Lawrence in the stands by himself.

Lawrence has yet to play a game this season after undergoing surgery on his hand and could miss another two weeks. He sat in street clothes as his team lost to New Haven (Conn.) James Hillhouse High, 56-51.

“It’s been hard,” Lawrence told SNY.tv during an exclusive interview before the game.

“I’ve been sitting out since September. It’s been real nerve-racking not knowing what’s going to happen, but it’s been good to watch my team really compete against highly-rated teams.”

The forward from Springfield Gardens, N,Y. is one of the most talented players left on the board, along with Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon, all of whom will sign sometime after April 17.

Lawrence is considering St. Johns, Cincinnati and UNLV. Having already taken official visits to Cincinnati and UNLV, Lawrence will take one last visit to St. John’s sometime soon. No date has been set but sometime soon after the visit he plans on making a decision in February.

“St. John’s is close by home, the coaching staff is cool,” he said. “I like their style of play. They get up and down and their power forwards have freedom.”

On UNLV: “UNLV. they get up and down and play at a fast pace. The coaches are cool, the weather is nice and they have great support from their fans.”

On Cincinnati: “Cincinnati, the coaching staff is real cool. They’ve been keeping in touch with me since my sophomore year. I like the way they use their forwards and they’re a tough team. There’s nothing better than playing with a tough team.”

This is a must get and if we can't land him, I will be extremely disappointed. I think Mick needs to make a call to Lance and get him talking with him. It is time Mick lands a kid like this. Eff St. Johns, I hope Lawrence saw them get embarrassed at G'Town yesterday.

The more I watch Rubles, the more I could see Lawrence starting as a frosh.

TRub isn't as bad as a few on here want to make him out to be. He just needs to learn to play within himself and to his strengths. He is a good defender and rebounder with a ton of athletic talent. He has physical tools, the question is will he be able to harness them. He is 17 games into a D1 career. Give the guy a break.

Jeff, couldn't agree more. Rubles is a very athletic player who will continue to grow. We haven't nearly seen the best of him.
