Dominic Woodson, the Rivals No. 2 center in the Class of 2013, visited N.C. State for Midnight Madness this past weekend and heads to Baylor and then Oklahoma next.
“It was good,” the 6-foot-10 1/2, 295-pound Woodson told SNY.tv by phone Monday night. “I just chilled, went with the players, met all the coaching staff and just went around the campus and stuff.
“I really liked it.”
Woodson said head coach Mark Gottfried told him the bigs will be involved in the offense.
“They would put me in the post and bring me out to the top of the key, to the free throw line” Woodson said. “They would let me pass. Just explained to me what my role would be. The big man touches the ball every down the court.”
Next up is an official to Baylor and then likely a trip to Oklahoma the weekend after that. Those two and the N.C. State visit are the only officials he’s taking, according to Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford.
“I have an official this weekend to Baylor,” he said.
As for Oklahoma, Woodson said, “Lon Kruger, he’s a good guy. [Assistant coach] Chris [Crutchfield] is a good guy. They have a good coaching staff. I really gotta go up there and see the campus and stuff.”
Woodson has also visited Kentucky unofficially, but the Wildcats haven’t offered and he said he hasn’t heard from head coach John Calipari recently.
“He has reached out to me before a couple times,” Woodson said. “I haven’t talked to him recently.”
As of now, those are the only schools in the mix, but Woodson added, “That might change.”
He hopes to decide relatively soon.
“I’m going to decide coming up pretty soon,” he said. “I think in November.”
