And btw... to compare Mick's situation his first year here to Lavin's first year at St. John's is beyond ludicrous.

Will those 3's be open looks vs Syracuse or teams that are able to match up and go man?

Did you really just use Syracuse as an example of a team playing man to man defense? :p :p

To answer your question: IMO, yes. The majority of those looks will still be there.

ready2go;24007 So now its a two way street. Mick's first year he got a pass cuz he was dealing with all this and that and it wasnt his players Lavin is in the same boat. His 2011 class is ranked very high. Lets give him a couple years[/QUOTE said:
Seriously??? When you posted this, did you really believe what you were typing? Mick got a pass his first year cause he had NO players. To try and compare the two situaitions is a joke. By the way, when St. Johns beat UConn in the BE tourney last year, Calhoun said that this St. Johns team will be one of the better teams in the BE this year and an NCAA team. That's because of the returning players that they had. So far Lavin has done an incredible job with them, don't you think? LOL.

This team is shooting better and looking better offensively because we are a threat to score at every position. We no longer pass to Lance and watch. Or have Deonte running around and have him be the only shooter.

We are a full team. We have 4 guys shooting around 40 percent from 3. Obviously, it is because of much better movement and unselfishness. Add that we are older and more experienced and it doesn't take a genius.

We are a TEAM this year. We got 5 guys averaging double figures, and Thomas around 8 or 9 a game. I previously was hard on Cashmere Wright, he has definitely proved me wrong. He's playing really well this year. I'm glad he proved me wrong about him. He had no turnovers in the Utah Valley game. Parker on the other hand, is struggling, one reason is because he's having trouble getting into games because Cash is playing so well.

To compare this years squad with last years is rediculous. This is Uc's best team since Cronin period. They first couple of games they were getting used to playing with eachother now that they are playing to there strengths more often, there offense is starting to look really polished out there. The chemistry this year is awesome, im really excited and anxious for Big East play. The last 5 years i have been unhappy that Big East play is coming, now its time to show off. Some times these little teams dont get credit because the lack either size or athleticism at positions, but the chemistry and shooting of the smaller teams is almost unmatched. I was glad to see the full court press we have all been hearing about and it was good to see everyone scoring and everyone busting ACE on defense. I have said it before once this team starts firing on all cylinders offensively, with the stingy defense they play they are going to better than anyone will give them credit for.. They are playing well and i expect UC to be undefeated going into Big East play. Come Big East play we might be the only team that is undefeated and like I have said all along, they will be in the top 25... GO UC!!!!!

No I used Syracuse's zone and the rest of the BE's ability to match up man to man

Mick said it best last night. Utah Valley packed the paint allowing the 3's.

Ok so how hard is then to get an open 3 with a team packing the paint??????

That is 3rd grade basketball coaching to get an open 3 when a team packs the paint...

I saw no off the ball screens or player movement. Yes they were passing the ball around, but those looks won't be open vs Syracuse's ZONE or the rest of the BE's man to man.

And how has a transition game still not developed?

Defense does look agressive

You really think the Big East has no concern whatsoever with Yancy Gates as is?

Question: Why have these cupcakes all been packing it into the paint and playing zone against UC?

Answer: Because of Yancy freaking Gates.

Now I'm not saying it will be that way in the Big East, because it won't. Teams will have the size and athleticism to match up man to man. The point is Yancy is a big threat and every team UC plays knows that.

Yes he is!

He's 7'9. 270lbs and chistled like a Greek God. He averaged 11pts, 6reb's a game vs mediocre talent at best. I averaged that in my driveway..He should absolutely dominate these clowns. Rip the freaking rim off the backboard and not settle for his bunny or lil fade-away jumper

Do you have any eligibilty left . St. Johns and Lavin is looking for a basketball god like you to play on their team.

Hey man props to you for coming on here and contributing absolutely nothing. the point is when their defense isnt working they win with their offense and when their offense aint working they win with their defense. so lets see how this translates to big east play. until then lets not critique everything little thing and then say steve lavin should be our coach. for god sakes man

I haven't been around UC boards for a long time,so I'm not sure if he has been doing this all the tiem, but ready2go makes a decent point. He is just saying that when UC has a lead like it did last night, why not try and work on other aspects of their game? He doesn't think UC will be able to beat teams playing the style they are now, and thinks we will need a good in and out game, so why not work on it now while you can?

As for this years team and last years team, at least record wise I think it would be the same. The only loss I could have seen would have been Dayton, but Dayton played so bad that I think UC would have won last year as well. I think we need to wait and see how this team does against good competition before we make the final call.

YES!!!

Thank you. That is all I'm saying. If Utah Valley is going to pack the paint, why not see what Yancy is made of and our other post players. Get them used to banging around down low. If they can be productive with 4 guys on them, then come Big East play they should have plenty of practice. Anyone can pass the ball around the 3 point line and shoot open 3's when the other team packs the paint.

Good for your point which has nothing to do with what is being disgust. I did not bring up Steve Lavin...Welcome to the thread

Well I had to borrow Dwight Howard's 12 foot hoops for a while, but my elbows kept getting stuck on the rim

Okay I'm gonna go ahead and call bullshit on that one...

You may have gotten me with an 11 footer... but that's where I draw the line.

Speaking of dunking, hoop length, etc... How about Darnell completely blowing that breakaway jam yesterday and then getting a second opportunity and redeeming himself (until he missed the free throw) lol Not to mention Cash missing his too.
