Help Support BearcatTalk:

Guys... ultimately, we're all Bearcat fans. We all want to see this team do as well as possible.

Lets hope the 'Cats just keep doing what they are supposed to be doing until Big East play starts.

Only Huggins lovers would be upset with UC shooting well from 3's.

What if they arent going in?? THen we will go inside! IF those don't go in, we will lose! That is basketball!

We have good shooters.

Yikes, I mean we have dominated 8 games. And you guys are upset with settling for making 3's!?

Reggie Miller disagrees with your assessment. Honestly, I would like to see more drives to the hoop but if Cash, Dion, Rashad, Larry or Killer are open I would be pissed if they didnt shoot.

Don't know where you got I was upset. I was simply stating it is one of the drawbacks of playing inferior teams. I said I hope it doesn't become a bad habit because that type of play won't get it done in the big east. I don't want them to come into games expecting to shoot a lot of threes, that is never going to be the way this team will consistantly win.

That is fair. Although I do think we can win Big East games by taking what the defense gives us. I am really encouraged by this teams ability to hit the three. That has been our biggest weakness in years past.

you wouldn't be able to see anything because you are blinded from reality.

Yeah, I wish I had your basketball acumen. Wish we all understood reality like you do. Call the coaching staff and see if there is any way you can help out. LOL.

The next week will be good for this team. They travel to Oklahoma City for a "neutral site" game with the Sooners. Sooners haven't lost in Oklahoma this season. Then they take the short drive to Oxford and the friendly confines of Millet Hall. Those two games should be a notch up in terms of toughness and dealing with a hostile environment. Looking forward to seeing how the Bearcats do in those two games.

Neither will be a hostile enviroment, Oklahoma and Miami are both bad teams, their will be more UC fans at Millett than Miami fans.

I would agree this teams ball movement is better than last year.
Still it is the same system. High ball screens at the top of the key from the post players. Last night the Cats shot 14-28 from 3. 50%! Incredible. 42 of the 92 points came from 3. It would be nice to see that everynight. All I am saying is that why not work on the low post game vs these cup cake teams. Be 2 dimensional instead of 1. Put it on film that you can get the ball down low as well as shoot the 3.

The wide open 3's are because these teams arent as athletic as the Big East. They were too slow and out physicalled

If you put it on film the rest of the Big East will have to practice defending the low block as well as the 3.

I don't know if you recall after the first couple of games but our skeptical fans were so worried about our outside shooting that they were saying we would get destroyed against a good zone. We simply didn't have an outside shooting dimension (other than some said Killa was ok to shoot). Now all of the sudden we are 1 dimensional as a perimter shooting team and we are complaining about that? This is the type of thing that makes me scratch my head because you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I do want to see more Gates...but maybe...just maybe...Mick's plan was to show we actually DO have a shooting dimension that must be reckoned with so that Gates and Thomas will get better looks in the future. Without first proving that you can shoot from the perimeter...there is no reason for the D to come out and guard you. I would say Mick's plan right now is exactly what the doctor ordered. As long as he can keep Gates believing in the end result and not frustrated with lack of touches...Gates will get his touches in conference play.

Who would have thought this thread would have taken off the way it has?! This is one of the fastest growing threads I've ever seen on Bearcattalk lol

I think you and I deserve most of the credit.

Waterhed, your statement does make sense. But I look deeper into the game. It is good to see them shoot well. However, the shots that were taken were not because of the ball screens or even movement. Yes quick passing got the open looks, but that is what happens when a team packs the paint.

I just wanted to see more of an offensive set to prepare them for the BE. We should have beaten Utah Valley by a thousand even if we didnt shoot 14-28 from 3.

Lets see Cash, Parker penetrate a zone. Lets see our shooters run off of not only ball screens at the top of the key, but also low block screens for an easy jumper. If they are going to collapse on our bigs, why not get into Gates and a quick pass back out. I just saw a lot of passing around the 3 point line. Thats my concern

If our attendence numbers at the Shoe are any indication you are sorely mistaken.

The Miami students will be on break and I will be at Millett for the game, Miami averages about 2,800 a game when the students are there, Millett seats only 6,400.

Hopefully a couple thousand UC fans make the trip... I'm considering it.

If we keep playing this schedule...Indiana will have to make room for a UC undefeated season. :)

There is no doubt I want to see them work on this...especially when the perimeter shot isn't falling. Penetration moves...pull up jumpers...drive and dish...get the ball to the low post...etc. I want to see all of that. We could be working on things like that when we get a good comfortable lead. I don't disagree there. I think we will see more of that. I think Mick is taking what they give us right now and exploiting it so that we can work on something else in the future. I think we are about one game away from seeing more of that on a regular basis just before heading into league play. We are going to start playing some teams that match up better with us in size and speed and aren't trying to shrink the clock on us so they can stay in the game.

If we continue to win and start working on our other dimensions at the same time we will be in a good well rounded balanced position when we get to the meat of our schedule. I think Wright, Dixon, Bishop, and SK can get into the lane so now all we need to do is get some in game practice.
