Luckily, a lot of other guys we're going after are SGs, so a 5'9" PG shouldn't really prevent them from coming here.

Good point. We have had tons of PG over the years who haven't been counted on for much scoring. We pretty much know Jenifer is going to be a 4 year player, so that's valuable for a PG. He seems like a pretty smart and motivated kid too, so I feel like he'd totally buy in. You know the program is in good shape when there is any question at all about potentially landing a PG of Jenifer's caliber this early on.

Jenifer might not be having the best AAU season to date and his stock may be slipping but keep in mind he likely will not be counted on to play significant minutes until he is an upperclassman. As a freshman he would have Caupain as a junior and Cobb as a senior ahead of him, not to mention the staff wants to groom Johnson to be able to play spot backup minutes at the PG just as Dixon did as an upperclassman. As a sophomore he would still have Caupain ahead of him as well as Johnson hopefully being capable of playing extended minutes at PG.

The point is - he may not be the most exciting prospect for many people right now, but the staff will have ample time to groom him, trim him down a bit, improve his feet, break some bad habits, and turn him into a solid point guard before he is counted on to potentially start.

Considering the poor history of UC in recruiting PGs, this kid would be a great catch. He is already a better ball handler than 90% of UC PGs over the last 25 years.

Poor history? Logan, Van Excel, Satterfield, Cash, Downey, Vaughn. That's poor history over the last 25 years? Wow. You're nuts.

It's interesting that all the players you mention were (Huggins) era. Its been 9yrs since Downey played here. Out of the list mention of pg who was your favorite and who would you compare Justin with??

Cash and Vaughn were in the Cronin era.

IMO Justin is similar to a Chris Paul(shorter/slower version), and obviously not a UC player.

Also I think Justin would be a top 50 recruit if he was 4 inches taller.

But he's not 4 inches taller which makes his appeal a lot less to me.

I think maybe he'll be a Chadd Moore type (healthy version)?

Thanks, was not thinking Cash was big recruit for Cronin if I remember it was important that Gates signed first. Vaughn, I might be wrong someone help me here. Fell into Micks lap. Downey first said he would stay then left. Remember Cronin said something about Vaughn came to him and told him I will make you forget about Downey.

There is also a kid named Troy Caupain who looks pretty good.

Agreed. Caupain was possibly the best passer on the team last year and can really push the ball up the court in transition. He also has great size and overall good basketball instincts. Definitely a bright future ahead for Troy.

No doubt. Also our transition offense was the most fluent when Troy was in the game. He was great at getting the ball down court quick and leading fast breaks. As a freshman thats pretty impressive.

Cash was a solid recruit. Vaughn if I remember correctly was recruited by Cronin at Murray State or at least looked at. (I might have him confused with someone else.) He went to prep school here and when Cronin got the gig here and obviously needed players he reached out to him. Vaughn I don't believe was being recruited by any program of the caliber of Cincy so it was kind of a no-brainer for him.

Vaughn committed to Indiana out of HS. I don't think they extended another offer after he failed to qualify and ended up at Cincinnati Harmony Prep.

I looked up his rivals page before I sent my post and it listed his only other offer coming from Oakland. I'll take your word for it on Indiana. Maybe they changed his profile after going prep. Obviously Indiana is a blue chipper program. Maybe interest waned after not qualifying as you said. I might be thinking of the kid from Louisville that came here and ended up transferring out that Mick had recruited to Murray State and then got to come here instead. For the life of me I can't think of his name. Maybe I just want to forget the early days of Mick's tenure.

Don't have to take my word on facts....

TEANECK, N.J. -- Deonta Vaughn's father expects him to not only end up at Indiana University, but to start as a freshman.

Vaughn, who has committed to play for the Hoosiers, starred at Arlington High School before transferring to a Cincinnati prep school this spring in an effort to become academically eligible in 2006.

He is playing this summer with one of the top AAU teams, headed by Cincinnati's O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker, leading to speculation Vaughn could reconsider his options for college.

"I really feel strongly about him going to IU," his father, Derrick Vaughn, said. "I think he should be starting, if not right off the bat, surely as the season goes on his freshman year." Vaughn, who is listed anywhere from 5-11 to 6-1, is averaging eight points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists after two days of games at the Reebok ABCD Camp.

Derrick Vaughn said a coaching switch could change his son's mind.

"The worst scenario is if Mike Davis doesn't have a good season and gets fired. That's the only way I see Deonta going somewhere else," Derrick Vaughn said.
