We need Rowsey to replace some of our seniors we lose next year. Shaq has already been replaced IMO with Evans. Now he would cover Cobb's departure. I'm a little worried about Ellis and DeBerry. We lost Strickland already so we don't really have any bigs besides Clark who is only 6'7. Izundu would be a perfect fit because he could contribute this season off the bench, then start for us next season with Clark.

I'm hoping Scott can replace Shaq and Evans is a true 2 that can slide to the 3 to get another shooter out there at times. Not sure if it'll work out like that though.

Wouldn't bother me if they got a competent juco this season who can give back up minutes and get a year under their belt then play significant minutes next season with Clark, Moore and a couple 2016 signings. That said Washington would be ideal and frankly this would be a perfect situation for him.

Washington it is!

I think Washington is the guy as well. He's not really a 5, but I think he can play the 5 if needed to. I'd rather take a 6'9" guy who we know can play at this level than a 6'11" project (that's not intended towards Izundu -- more towards the Nyarsuk, Gaines, Strickland types we have landed in the past).

Impact bigs are at a premium and the college game is guard dominated. Having a guy that can finish, rebound and pass in the post can take a team to a new level. You have to try and identify talent and cultivate it. Mick's done ok with the JUCO route the past few years with Cheikh, Ellis and Deberry. It's that or develop a HS guy with potential. The instant impact bigs are going to KY, Duke, Kansas and the like.

Wish UC had Deberry another season. Truly think he's going to be really good this season with better conditioning and give UC a solid 8 ppg; with some 10-14 point performances along the way. Unfortunately, in absence of another 5 it's going to be hard to play him and Ellis together.

A lot of sensative little boys in this thread this morning, huh? It's been clear for a while that he wasn't coming here. He doesn't really fit a need like I thought initially. Still the staff would prefer a transfer like Kyle Washington. Don't think they'd back of Izundu if there wasn't at least a chance to get Washington.

How does he not fit a need? I think there is a pressing need for big men in the next couple years. Who are UC's bigs next year?

Washington it is!

Let's hope so but at this point it very well could be empty scholarship or a very average fill in. I didn't buy the hype that this guy was going to be an immediate star but UC really could have used him down the road. Recruiting really seems to be unimpressive lately.

We had a solid 2015 class, but Spring recruiting is just so crazy and competitive. There are a ton of schools desperately offering people and trying to get kids on their campus. If we get Rowsey I'll be happy. If not, we still have a great team coming back

On paper it looks decent. Let's hope it pans out better than some of the recent classes.

I get the frustration believe me and I agree I never believed he was an instant impact guy either. The bottom line is UC is one of 11 schools to make 5 straight trips to the NCAA Tournament so recruiting hasn't been as bad as some make it out to be. However, they need a couple top shelf impact guys to get them to the next level where they make runs year after year. They lack shooters and play makers. I think TC can be a play maker if he would become more aggressive. Shooters are a must and they have to have consistent low post scoring to be balanced. Good recruiting has to become great recruiting or you have to stop recruiting athletes and start recruiting basketball players and developing them.

Who cares? People act like the world ends when a recruit doesn't choose UC. It happens everywhere!!! Life will go on and UC will keep winning and rebuilding the program and brand. The next 2 years are going to be exciting!!!

I agree with everything you said but rebuilding part. We are who we are at this point in time.

well its over

I had guts feeling from beginning he wanted to play somewhere with warm weather. He's never experienced the climate like we have in Cincinnati. That's a huge part of recruiting. Location is everything.

You have to pay what they weigh for a top big. Only time we got top big to recruit out of high school was Yancy(brother got to walk on and withrow hall of fame coach got job).

Holy crap I agree with u 100% lol. It may be time to look at this program for what it is. A program in which it will contend for the sweet 16, reg season and post season conference titles and continue to get mostly 3 star recruits with 4 stars mixed in. When you put it into perspective like that it makes the job Mick has done all the more impressive IMO.

we have to get creative with recruiting going forward. We need to gamble more and schedule Ky, Kansas, duke, nc of world without guarantee of return gAme. Even if we lose players a see that they could possibly that player or two that gets us over the hump.

We just played UK and I believe we are in a tournament that we could possibly play Duke in this or next season. We also scheduled Iowa State who could be a top 5 team next year. I agree we need to be more creative, the non con schedule has improved immensely since the BE days. It appears that the AAC is not appealing to top 100 talent.

I couldn't agree less with the "we are who we are at this point" type of outlook. All it takes is to get back in the national talk about "contenders". It gets the fans excited and media coverage. I think next year we have the opportunity to take a big step towards becoming relevant as a contender rather than a pretender. That type of success will go a long way with recruiting.

I think most want more than that and there isn't any reason why UC can't achieve more. Recruiting has to pick up. Mick has done a good job of being consistent and getting pretty good results with average players. Next year will be telling. It "should" be a good year but IMO it will all come down to the style of play and I have yet to see anything from Mick that says he will change his style. In fact, if I could point to one thing that is likely the biggest reason for their recruiting failures I would point to style of play. Kids don't want to play in a slow grind it out game.

With most the season off with his medical condition, I was expecting more from our 2016 recruiting class and out of this spring period. If he gets Rowsey and Washington I'll put my foot in my mouth, but the 2016 class needs some star players in it for sure...

Correct me if I'm wrong but a result of his condition was that he couldn't fly which hurts recruiting a lot right there. He still traveled to close sites but it's not like he had all this time to be recruiting for 2016.

You are correct. One of our main targets, Nick Ward, was a short drive up 71 in Columbus and he's going out of state to MSU. Jarron Cumberland is just up north as well in Wilmington, OH. There's plenty of talent within driving distance. Also throw Omari Spellman in there
