That's weird, I didn't see two T's on coaches shirt..ha but seriously this is awesome. I hope they keep staying on him!

Seriously, outside the local area "Cincinnati" is misspelled about 75% of the time. But I really don't care how he spells it now, as long as it ends up on his uniform shirt in 2016.

Obviously the other schools going after him have needs, but he's exactly what we need to be elite. A high-scoring guard. The defense is there for our team and isn't going anywhere. A guy like Alkins could make us Top 15 in a couple years. Imagine a lineup of Caupain, Alkins, Evans, Moore, and Clark in 2016. No true center in there, but still, holy wow. So much talent.

We will have 4 or 5 scholarships in 2016 depending on what the staff decides to do with the one left by Strickland's departure. Just going by history we will at least see one Juco in there, probably a big guy since we lose Octavius and Deberry. I just want to see a big time scoring guard (Alkins, Cumberland) and a polished big (Ward). I trust the staff in their evaluations and hope that Mick's medical condition can be turned into a positive as he will be able to recruit more. Maybe it works out for the best and we can land someone that we may not have gotten because Mick gets more face time with them.

Good news about Cumberland? Based on his tweets during this game, he is NOT an Ohio state fan haha

Mick said on his radio show tonight that he is going to high school games he normally would not be able to go to. Hopefully he is able to capitalize on the extra recruiting time.

Mick has made it his goal to land a top recruit in '16, I wonder if Alkins is the guy he'll pursue the hardest.

I think Cumberland is much more realistic at this point. I think getting a really good big guy is much more important in this class. I think the long shot they will really take a swing at will be Nick Ward. OSU and MSU are involved but the Cats have already had him on campus. Important class to get big talent since it is going to be big.

Has that not been a goal in the past? Might explain some things.

LOL! The point is now that he has time off during the season, his goal is to land a guy that they probably would have had no chance with in regular circumstances. Mick bashers will cling to anything....

I dont think there has been a change in thinking. He is still going after their top recruits just like he would have had he been coaching. He just can spend more face to face time with them which ultimately increases the chances. However he didnt just all of the sudden think to himself well now I'll go spend all my time going after a top 10 recruit because I have more time. This game isnt about "recruiting" it's about "getting". They have a board of their top recruits and are going to pursue them regardless. Have to think Cumberland is obviously a priority and he has been tracking Nick Ward over the last few weeks. I'd say right now those are the targets that are at the top of the list. It also helps they are both from Ohio so Mick can see them with regularity since he is unable to fly. If UC can land those two this class would be started off with a major bang.

I am far from a Mick basher and even though my comment was tongue in cheek, it's pretty obvious his recruiting has not been great. 2014 looks to be a decent class as does 2015 but the years before that were pretty bad. That said, if landing top recruits hasn't previously been his goal then we should all be concerned (obviously it's always been a goal of his which is why it was a meaningless comment).

The only class that I remember that wasn't very good was 2012. I think all we had was Rubles as a juco. Every other class was solid. 2011 had Shaq as a top 70 and Sanders was a 3/4 star. That 5-star guy from 2013 was a hell of a commitment.

If you want to just go off ratings and rankings, you're going to overlook a lot of players. Check out Pastner. All that dude does is go after highly-touted guys, not men that he thinks best fit his team. Would you rather have Cronin recruit the way he does? People at the time saw Lawrence as a HUGE get; potentially a program-changer. Where's he now?

Huh? I'm not going off rankings but it seems you are. The 2010 and 2011 class was crap. JJ came from 2010 but that was it. Shaq was a top 70 recruit but he is a 4th year Junior on a very young team and can't even break the starting lineup and doesn't play much. Sanders was supposed to be the best of the class, and that might end up being true but that should show how sad of a class it was.

2012 was terrible. 2013 should be decent (I mis-referred to this class as the 2014 class in my previous post). The 5* from that class doesn't matter because he didn't pan out. 2014 was good but was loaded with juco's, however, Gary Clark brings it up a big notch.

Not to get in an argument, but just don't think the recruiting has been very good. Hopefully 2015 continues to improve on that.

Crazy that we didn't get a single HS kid in 2012. A third year player from that class could have really helped this year.
