'17 NY SG Keith Williams (Commit)

BearcatTalk

Help Support BearcatTalk:

He has been very productive so far into his senior year. Our backcourt should be very competitive next year. JJ, Broome, Cumberland, Williams, Evans and Moore. Depth should not be a issue.

In the frontcourt:

Brooks
Scott
Washington
Clark
Elle (sp)
Moore

We should be loaded.

I'm not sure who is going to be winning the position battle for PG or SG next year.

Is Williams now the go-to guy now? I might be getting his AAU team confused with his high school squad, but wasn't he on a team with some top 50 guys last year? Which is absurd because I think his JR season #'s are crazy good for someone being the 3rd or 4th option.

i think he was viewing it as a positive factor rather than a potential problem, and if so, i agree.

Yeah, I mostly was. I do like Troy (not love), but I'd like to see the offense run differently. If that means someone else leading the way, so be it. And that's not a knock on Troy. Losing him will hurt. It just feels like he's stuck in between being a PG and SG. Isn't "excellent" at either; just "pretty good" at both.

Broome will start. SG will be up for grabs. Cumberland needs to get his shot down. He has only hit three 3s so far.

I agree, as 3/16 from deep isn't very good, but honestly I'd like to see him shoot less threes, rather than try to get hot from deep. He's a very smart player that can drive and either dish or score like nobody's business. I want to see some picks set for him to go to the hoop. He's shot more three than twos so far, which doesn't seem like his game at all.

I agree. When he committed I didn't think of a deadly 3 point shooter but imagined him as just an all out scorer. Someone that can get in the lane, use his big body and get to the free throw line. I then was hearing from players and even Cronin mentioned it in his press conference he really can shoot the 3. I even heard someone say the kid doesn't miss. Whether it's from the 3 or the lane, I want to see him give us more than what he has so far. Not that he's doing bad or anything, just want more from him.

Brooks and Scott on the other has exceeded my expectations. thus far.

As far as Keith Williams goes, he def can come in as a freshman and see some good playing time. So glad we will have him.

I agree but man, how important will our 2018 class be?!! Vital we fill some big holes with high talent. We will lose Clark, Washington, possibly Evans. We need a stud PG and stud PF. Hopefully some NCAA tournament success this year and next and a new arena helps us land some quality guys.

Isn't it ironic, that one of our best squads potentially, won't play a game in fifth third arena...sad really.

Broome will probably start somewhere. Moore probably won't. That leaves Jenifer, Cumberland, and Williams fighting for whatever position Broome doesn't fill.

Assuming everyone stays and Washington, Clark, and Evans start. Could it be...

Jenifer and Broome

Or

Broome and Cumberland/Williams

I'll be disappointed in Cumberland if he can't be the starting 2 next year. Hell have the off season to get his body more ready. Williams can definitely be a rotation guy from day 1. We're going to have a ton of options. 2 PG lineups, 4 guard, 2 bigs, you name it. Very encouraging.

I would hope Cumberland will get in shape because the starting role is probably going to be given to the best defender as long as one of them don't prove offensively superior.

I keep hearing about Cumberland needing to get in shape. Meaning, his cardio , or extra weight? I heard on the broadcast during the bowling green game that his body fat percentage is 4.5%.

I heard that too and was thinking they must have been talking about someone else. If it's true I imagine his conditioning can't be too awful bad...but again I was thinking it was a mistake. His body does not look like 4.5 percent body fat. Cronin has talked about him working on this type of stuff in the offseason. That wouldn't be necessary if he's already that low.

I did a body building show when I turned 60. I trained and dieted for 6 months. Went from a 193 to 150 and was 4.5% body fat. from looking at Cumberland I would be stunned if he was 4.5% body fat. I ate 6 meals a day, ran for a hour and 10 minutes and weight trained 6 days a week for 6 months.

Probably what I get for believing the jv squad announcers. WH, that is impressive! I moonwalked once...

I remember the year Fortson made the cover of sports illustrated... I think before his junior year. I think he dropped his body fat to 7.5 percent from like double that. He was straight ripped. 4.5 percent is another level and would be very noticeable.

Here is that cover if you haven't seen it. One of the coolest covers ever!
