Jenifer is at 12.4 AST/40 minutes. Off the charts.

His turnovers are a little high too but I can deal with that as long as he can stay above 2.5:1 assist to turnover ratio. Which is where he is at after 2 games. Troy is 3:1.

Last year that would have been good for top 40 and top 13 in the country respectively. Unfortunately Troy was at 1.68:1 last year which was 184th. Not good.

This new offense (and tempo) is making it easier to find open guys and of course open guys can make open shots at a higher %. I don't blame Troy's low ratio last year so much on his ability as I would blame it on our offensive scheme.

troy has 3tos jenifer has 4tos. Pretty good considering how fast he play's

Actually I think they both have 4 but that doesn't mean much because Troy has played a lot more minutes. The only number that really means anything is assist to turnover ratio.

If you adjust Jenifer's minutes to equal Troy's and assume the same rate of turnovers and assists...Jenifer would have 16 assists and 7 TO's compared to Troy's 12 and 4. However his assist to turnover ratio stays the same...which is basically 2.5:1. Troy is 3:1.

I love the fact that we have a PG who likes to push the envelop and can change the pace...as long as his ratio is good. 2.5:1 is pretty good

Let's not get too impressed with points per game going up. By my calculations we should score roughly 7.5 or so points just because of the shot clock change.

Pushing the pace (in addition to shot clock) could actually double that just by getting shots off another 5 seconds earlier resulting in 15 points per game without improving FG %.

If we hit a higher % of shots a 20 point per game improvement is not out of the question. 80 points per game could be a lot of fun!

Scratch that....because I didn't divide the minutes by 2 for both teams. So anyway. ..reduce what I just said by half. 70 points per game should be easily attainable with a faster pace. We could average 75 if we really are good with our possessions.

I know it's sacrilege but Villanova has a freshman guard who pushed a senior guard off the ball. I assume it was because it made the team better. Villanova also has a lot of good players on the bench. . The point is...if we do have a situation where playing a freshman helps our team we should do that. Right now I don't think we are there yet...but we might be by seasons end.

I assume your talking about Jalen Brunson. As in 5* number 2 pg coming out of high school Jalen Brunson. I see your trying to find a comparable situation to what we have going on here but this isn't it because Brunson is twice the player Jenifer is. Can you explain what you have seen so far that makes you think Jenifer will have Caupains job by the end of the season?

Obviously you think "pushing someone off the ball" means taking their job. However with the situation in Villanova it was simply pushing someone off the ball.

Plus I didn't say I think that will happen. ..i think I clearly said it was a different situation.

No need to get defensive. People aren't out to get you. My apologies I didn't thoroughly read your post and I agree I could see them playing together for 5 minutes a game and I feel more sure about it after these games but I don't see it being in the starting line up. Because then who would be pushed out of the line up? Shaq? I don't think so. Cobb? No don't see that either.

Nobody is getting Caupains job. He's playing 30 minutes regardless of which position he plays them.

I'm not sure why you are so focused on the starting lineup. Taking 3 minutes from several player's is 9 minutes. I'm not saying he is that good...but if he is...why do you care?

Also...if you care to point out how I got defensive I'm all ears

I really don't because if he is then that just makes a much better team. The kid is great. He has thrown some of the best passes I have seen from a UC player in years. I can't wait to see what he does tomorrow. Consistency is key.

And I would 100% agree. I have been one to show that Caupain has a better assist to turnover ratio. But Jenifer is a frosh...and a very good one at that. If he becomes anywhere close to the Villanova guard...at any point in time. ..let's put him in there.

We don't have to play uperclassmen for the sake of it.

And please keep in mind that doesn't mean troy loses his job. Troy is one of the 2 most important players on this team.

Definitely agree with this. Troy is very important to this team. Him and Ellis are the leaders. A week ago this time I thought it was blasphemy that a frosh would kick Troy off the ball but after this week it it making a little more sense.

Cobb isn't going anywhere.

Yah...my point with all of this was not to suggest Jenifer should be starting but that we should play the most deserving player whether they are veterans or not. If the veteran and the frosh are close in effectiveness on the court then yes we should start the veteran. We haven't had many instances where a frosh came in and started over a veteran...most of the time if a frosh started it was out of necessity like in the case of Gary Clark.

As an example...my guess is that Thomas will start all year even if Evans proves to be a better player. I can appreciate loyalty to veterans up until the point it costs us games. In a close game...a few more minutes from the more effective player (playing with the starting lineup) can make the difference.
