2015-2016 Season

Washington and Cumberland are big time additions and both were top 75 recruits, add in RS Frosh Tre Scott and 6'10" Brooks and the class is pretty solid.

There are still some pieces missing. Especially after next year when we lose Troy and Kevin. The 2016-2017 class needs to be Micks best.

I might be done with Mick if the 2017 class is a bunch of JUCOs and underrated guys. We need elite recruits in that class particularly at PG.

It will be interesting to see what he gets done. Upgrades to facilities will be done and there should be some playing time to offer especially at PG.

I agree NTS and Waite. Time for Mick to earn his pay and get some solid recruits. I to do not want to see Juco and underrated guys.

It has always been time for Mick to do that. That time is not just happening now. It is the single biggest complaint that I have with him. He just hasn't recruited good enough players to lift this program back to where we once were. Saying that it's time for him to earn his pay says a lot. Glad you said it instead of me!:D

I think our players are good enough when we play to their strengths. Some guys are good in any style, but guys like Shaq, KJ, and Cobb seem to flourish in a quicker game. We need those guys to be good in order for us to be at our best. So we have to continue to transition as quickly as possible from defense to offense. When we play like the aggressor, we're very good. But it seems like the name on the other team's jersey dictates whether we are aggressor or underdog in our mentality.

I think you need to calm down and give it some more time. It's only been 10 years and the deck has been stacked against Mick the entire time. Just wait till we get the new arena, I heard they're going to make the floor out of magic wood that lures in top 10 recruits and an invite to a better conference. Of course, once the new arena opens we'll need to give Mick 5 years to get adjusted to that.

There's no reasonable way that anyone can make a determination on whether Mick should keep his job or not until 2025 at the earliest.

You're right...didn't look at it that way. I feel better now.

I feel the same way. Now the arena excuse is out of the way, Mick needs to step up and land some elite recruits. We really need a top 2017 PG.

No, Mick is grooming JJ for that slot. Can't you see how he is tweaking his game and working hard to build the young man's confidence?

I guess I am officially a troller, too old to care about that. I follow UC basketball, and my ucat brother and brother in law hate Cronin as I do. With that said, he does get decent recruits for the unfortunate league u are in right now. I thought your record would be a lot better right now than it is. But a run is still not out of the question.

I have been away from this board for a long time but wanted to share my opinion on the Mick topic. I have not been quiet about my support for Mick, my gratitude for resurrecting the program, and the results he has gotten in conjunction with the resources given. I wont go back into that. I agree with many on here that, to me, the most frustrating thing about Micks tenure has been his inability to recruit the type of players that can make a run in March. I think Mick is an exceptional basketball coach but his little engine that could persona is tired and stale. It's time to step up and be the big boy again. The program is back on solid footing (5 straight NCAAs), has sent 2 players to the NBA and countless others to pro ball in Europe, new locker rooms and arena are on the way, and generally a fan base that shows support. I wish they could find a way to get him a plane. Nevertheless if you and your staff cant sell that to some top rated guys then we need a new coach or a new staff. (HIRE KENYON!). Next year for me is the put up or shut up year for Cronin. He should have a starting 5 (Washington, Clark, Evans, Cumberland, Caupain) where 4 of the 5 were top 100 recruits coming out of high school. The only one who was not in a top 100 list was Caupain and he will be a senior and might get some votes for conference player of the year. If Mick cant win and win big in this league with that team then I will be ready to move on. I too am sick of 3 star projects and juco diamond in the roughs. No more losing to f#$%ing Xavier. No more bubble conversation. No more little man syndrome. Step the F up and produce an elite result. I think the fan base is grateful for what he has done but at some point the status quo can no longer be acceptable when these are the results. I think the new arena will have an impact on recruiting but I just dont know how much. I'll be cheering my ass off as I always have. However the clock is officially ticking for me when it comes to Mick. The rest of this season and next are about all my patience has left.

Very good post. I couldn't agree more. Still can't give up a lot of basketball left, and that's how I feel too, last year is the final straw. Would love for him to make it happen.

Welcome back Jack. Nice post. I thought this year was the year, and it still might be, but where we currently sit is leaving a bad taste in almost everyone's mouth. I agree about next year, although 6 months ago I still would have thought this season had more promise than next season. I think we are banking a lot on Cumberland and I'm just not sure he will have that big of an impact next year. I only base that on the videos I've watched of him. He is a bigger, bulkier, guard which to me always translates into slower. And, that is the impression I get from his videos. He doesn't look very quick. His skills and speed serve him well in high school, but I think he'll have an adjustment period in college. Unfortunately the adjustment periods for Mick's recruits seem to be a lot longer. Anyway, everyone else in that lineup you laid out should be exceptional. And, if Cumberland proved not to be quite ready, we still have Johnson and Jenifer that might take that next step and be very good.

Obviously, I fell off the Cronin bandwagon years ago, so unless he pulls this season out of the fire, I wouldn't go a year farther. But, I know that he will probably not get fired regardless, so it is what it is. I support the program unconditionally and have for a long time. All I want is a top program and I could care less who gives it to us. If Cronin suddenly turned into Coach K, I would support him unconditionally. But, I think 10 years has proven that that probably won't happen. Just recruit and win and be one of the best programs in America. That's all. Right now, I don't think we viewed as one of the best programs.

I think someone linked to it in an earlier post but I loved Doc's article in the paper yesterday about UC and picking up the pace.

Very telling about Mick and the players if you paid attention while you read it. The last line of the article was a quote from Troy saying he'd love to keep up the fast pace play but that's up to the head coach not him.

That pretty much confirms what many of us have been saying, Mick is the reason for the slow down ball. Mick is quoted in the article talking about possessions and conditioning and making excuses about his guys not being in shape and blah blah blah, same old Mick nonsense. The point is that it's not the fact his players aren't listening to what he's telling them, it's the fact that he's holding them back and telling them to play a slower pace.

Tonight should give us a good idea as to how committed Mick is going to be to playing an up tempo pace of basketball. We'll get challenged at times against UConn. Is Mick willing to stick with the uptempo pace or will he go back to what he's comfortable with at the first sign of struggle??

You have great insight to what Mick says. You must be close to the program.

Damn Jack. You hit the nail on the head in terms how I feel too. Well said my friend.
