Justin Jackson got it for the same reason. He was an above average defender but not great with the exception of his shot blocking skills.

Jackson led the league in not only block%, but also defensive rating (he actually led the country in this category). He also was third in defensive win shares (13th nationally) and fourth in steal% in the conference. Was tenth in defensive rebounding % as well, but a lower rebounding percentage can be expected with aggressive shot blockers.

Brimah, on the other hand, did lead the league in block%, but failed to make the top ten in any of those other categories. He is one of the best shot blockers in the country though--finished second nationally in block%--and that is obviously an important skill set, but that's about where the comparison to Jackson ends. Jackson put together a defensive season last season that far exceeded what Brimah can do defensively at this point in his career, from an overall standpoint.

This has got to be the biggest joke of a coach of the year in the history of this conference!

But seriously, Fran Dunphy? He'd be 4th on the list at best.

The coaches vote. So they split the votes.

Did you watch UC last year??? Completely inaccurate statement...He could literally guard anyone 1-5 on switches last year.

Sure did. More often than not JJ would let his guy dribble by him just so he could attempt to block the shot. It really hurt UC against Harvard.

Must of been watching a different team. Jackson by some metrics was the best defensive player in the country. He was incredibly good last year.
