UNC head coach Roy Williams will complete an in-home visit this evening with 2017 Pickerington Central big man Sterling Manley, per source

Sounds like his leg is doing better.

A little surprised to see North Carolina offered a guy 200+ in the rankings. Feel like that's not normal for them.

That said, I'll take a guy that has a UNC offer any day.

Chad said he had been out for a long time with a broken leg. I'd imagine that has an impact on his ranking.

I been told that they want to take up to seven, according to good friend of mine rumor he is hearing they might be landing a top top30 recruit this weekend. PS

I think he was referring to Kris Wilkes, but X got clipped from his list last week. I don't think Scruggs is a top 30 recruit, but Wilkes was.

According to 247 Scruggs is ranked 29th.

Also, he very cleverly added, " PS" to the end of his post...Paul Scruggs, PS...

Back to UC recruiting....

After seeing Williams being bumped up to a 4-star, I did a little digging just out of curiosity. What if I told you Cronin has landed an ESPN 4/5 star in 10 of the 11 years he's been recruiting at UC? Considering how much crap he gets, it actually did shock me.

2017: Williams
2016: Cumberland
2015: Evans, Jenifer
2014: Clark
2013: Lawrence
2012: --
2011: Shaq
2010: Jackson
2009: Stephenson
2008: Gates, Wright
2007: McClain, Wilks

I bolded the Top 100s.

You can just tell how a conference can help you in recruiting just looking back at all of these guys. When we were in the BIG East Cronin can get these Top 100 recruits into UC. Since then I believe there has been a drop off dramatically.

In raw talent? Possibly. But in guys that are coachable and fit the system? I very much disagree.

Wait Keith Williams has been moved up to a 4 star?

On ESPN...they use a scale instead of a cutoff number. That way if some classes are better than others, guys who are good enough don't find themselves on the wrong side of the cutoff. We talk all the time about there being a minimal difference between players # 60-200. This accounts for that.

*The people who say recruiting rankings don't matter aren't allowed to comment on this though :).

Nobody thinks the rankings don't matter. People do put different amounts of emphasis on them, though.

It doesn't matter how many good recruits that he has signed. He's done nothing with them. The more you argue that he has actually signed better players than we give him credit for, the worse his actual results look. My biggest fault with him is his recruiting. If you're telling me that his recruiting has actually been pretty good, then I'll shift my #1 complaint over to his lack of coaching talent.

Has the guy ever had a Top 25 recruiting class? If he did in one of those early years, he certainly hasn't come near one in a long time. Which probably explains why we peaked in somewhere around his 5th or sixth season and have been on the decline ever since.

I suspect that since our recruiting classes seem to rank somewhere between 36 and 60 in most years, that the overall recruiting rankings seem to be pretty accurate. That is about the slot that our actual team performs in each season, which aligns with our crappy NCAA seeds that we usually get.

People on here have definitely said they don't matter, are just a guessing game, etc. Coach Cronin said it in his season opening press conference last week too. I was just messing around anyway though.
