2017 General Recruiting

What an exciting list you put together there. Key thing here: they've all "had their moments" in the national spotlight. It's nearly impossible to maintain it outside of a legitimate conference. Sure, there can be exceptions i.e. UConn, but for the most part, it's tough. It's so rare in today's era. Even you have to realize that when you started thinking of those schools.

Most of my list has been in the final 4 or elite 8 within the last decade, so I'd say the list is pretty good.....and I didn't even include Butler or Xavier. You on the other hand, came up with a completely obscure list of teams to make your argument, so we can certainly take a vote on who's list was more exciting.

Lol, the list was obscure to prove my point. Pace of play has so little to do with why a recruit picks a school. And per your other post, it sounds like you even agree with me that pace isn't really relevant, so I'm not sure why you're fighting me on that.

It may not be what it was, but the Big East is a pretty legitimate conference. You think that has NO effect on the fact that they're currently getting better recruits than they've ever gotten? They all would've happily played in the A-10? Again, you've named about 5 out of 300 schools outside of legitimate conferences. It's far tougher. How can you not see that?

Let's not confuse the current "Little East" with what was once the real "Big East". They got 5 bids. The American got 4 bids. Not much difference. The American has a national championship. The current Little East has a national championship. I would argue that the coaching in the American blows away the coaching in the Little East.

Style of play matters to recruits. Especially ones with aspirations of playing in the NBA.

If you are going to play that style, then you better perfect it like Virginia has and achieve some valid results. We haven't yet achieved anything. You don't hear anyone raving about our program. You do hear many analysts joking about how ugly we play and our lack of offense. Virginia has real offensive players who can pass and shoot the basketball. If they want to play slow with the kind of talent they have, then more power to them. We rarely get great talent. We don't pass well. We don't shoot well. Watching Virginia is like watching a well oiled machine. If they wanted to play up-tempo, they could. Watching us is like watching futility. Passing is horrendous. Shooting is horrendous. We inspire jokes and laughter and blood from everyone's eyeballs. It's starting to get better, but it's not happening fast enough for me.

Well for future reference: When you say that style of play matters so little, you should expect some push back.

Did you look up what I mentioned? Go to Kenpom.com right now and sort it by pace of play. The better teams are generally toward the bottom and play slower paces. It's not like I'm saying anything crazy.

Just to piggy back off this, I think the opportunity to get to the NBA is there playing at UC. We have NBA scouts attend our practice for the most part regularly. (Meaning it's not a shock to see them) They have already been checking out Troy, Kyle and Jacob. We play a games on National television. The opportunity is there. We just have to continue to get high talent.

Not saying style doesn't play a part but it isn't the driving factor some our saying.

Winning is the biggest factor. Playing time is another big one. I'm not sure we want too many that just want to run and gun. As a fan I would rather win boring than lose with a dynamic offense.

That being said... I as a fan am looking for a higher level of results and my time arrived last year. Each year without them erodes my confidence...and maybe the same with future recruits.

American has two right Louisville 2013 and UCONN 2014

Only 2 Top 25 teams in the bottom 50.

Okay, I'll try this again.

Let's look at the Top 50 overall teams. Those teams would be considered "good", right?

18 are on the top half in pace (1-175).

32 are on the bottom half in pace (176-351).

Is that better? Most. Good. Teams. Play. Slow.

I want to be middle of the pack. 11 of the Top 25 teams are in the middle third. So I really don't care about your top half, bottom half. That's you misrepresenting my side of this. Show me where I ever said I want to be in the Top 100 range in pace. Hint: I never have. So you pulling the numbers for those teams is a complete waste of your time and proves nothing.
