2017 General Recruiting

This seems like a whole lot of research for nothing. Kids go to schools for many reasons. Cumberland picked us over Kansas. I wonder if their forum has a huge post going over our history and arena compared to theirs.

Lol. A whole lot of research? It took like 2 minutes. And the point is a much more general one than my single example. I could do this all day for "P5" programs. Swing and a miss...

*Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I dont remember Cumberland having anything to do with Kansas? Did I miss that somewhere? Doesn't matter anyway though bc that's not the point.

And what's that reason for Alabama again? Landscape?

Trust me, I get your point. Other schools with lesser pedigree than UC sometimes get better recruits than us. I just thought the in-depth analysis of Alabama basketball was funny.

Kansas was hitting Cumberland up daily during his senior year when he was already committed to UC. He posted to his snapchat all the mail and packages he was getting from them. I don't remember hearing about an official offer, but that may be because of Cumberland's lack of interest in them. Not sure.

Also, if someone tried to claim that Kansas should be out recruited by us every year, yeah I could see a post like that on a forum. That's about the same thing as Alabama compared to us.

I felt like it was the only way to get through to Waite. He uses the same excuse everytime, regardless of the circumstance.

Interesting. Makes me even happier that we have Cumberland if Bill Self wanted him too knowing he was already committed.

You haven't got through to Waite at all. Not being in a P5 conference is a big obstacle in recruiting. One that did not exist before their creation. As I mentioned earlier read Chad's post.

Waite, here is some info for you about Alabama:

-Arena built in 1968, renovated in 2005. Construction cost under $30M on 2016 dollars.
-3 coaches since 2009
-No conference championships since 2002
-No conference tournament championships since 1991
-1 NCAA Tournament bid since 2006
-0 Final Fours
-1 Sweet 16 since 1991
-In a conference that had 2 teams in the field of 64 last year (Vanderbilt lost a play-in game)
-Probably the #1 example in all of College sports when it comes to being a football school first and foremost. That impacts money spent on the program and fan support.
-And I believe JaMychal Green is their only current NBA player

...

But you're trying to tell us that NONE of this matters and we should expect to be ourecruited by them every single year bc of "landscape"? Give me a break!!!!!!!!

THE SEC, while down at the moment, is a far easier place to recruit than the AAC. Getting to play against Kentucky every year is enough for some people to want to go there. In my opinion, the conference is the biggest thing holding us back. And while some smalls schools in bad conferences do get good recruits, they also have rich basketball traditions and great facilities.

My only point in all of this is that it's a case-by-case basis. When talking AAC vs SEC, you could be talking Kentucky vs Tulane, or you could be talking UConn vs Auburn. There's obviously a difference. The AAC as a whole may be at a disadvantage. But there are tiers within the conferences that lessen the impact. I believe we're in a tier that makes the disadvantage minimal. Doesn't mean I don't think there is a disadvantage...but when you factor in everything else that goes into defining successful programs, we make up a ton of ground. It's our coaches' jobs to sell that. I think they've done a pretty good job doing that lately. We've had a building block player in each of the last 5 classes, if you count Williams. And a guy like Nsoseme may not be the most exciting ever, but it beats having an open roster spot like in the past.

Ok Waite. We should get out recruited every year by Rutgers and DePaul. And if we don't, it's only bc the coach pulled off a miracle. Lmao.

Gonna be tough to get a 4 year player to come here. At least one the staff is high on. No playing time available.

We need an option for a one-and-done!

Looking at the roster for next season, there really isn't room for a one-and-done. We have a PG, SG, SF ( Evans stays), PF, C all seemingly with starting roles. Then, we have back ups in place too.

Not saying if a top 20 recruits commits he won't play, but I can't see our coach giving guaranteeing minutes out. I'd love for a top tier guy to commit, but I don't see minutes available.

Who has the starting pg spot locked? If a one and done capable pg came in I think there is def room next year.

Cane broome
Justin jenifer
Jarron Cumberland
Keith Williams
Jacob Evans
Tre Scott
Gary Clark
Kyle Washington
Quadri moore
Nysir brooks
Eliel N. (Prob a redshirt)

Not sure where the PT is for another recruit. If the recruit isn't a red shirt candidate, we should pocket it

I am willing to bet Cane Broome was lured here because we offered him a starting role after Caupain leaves. I am liking Jenifer more and more, but I think Broome is a pure scorer that will hopefully move the offense better than Caupain has.

If Washington keeps playing like he does and Evans continues to improve they might not be here much longer.

Left off Trevor Moore.
