ACC rumor

I think uc will be in the acc but uconn and ul(if the big12 gets cold feet) will be invited first

Also don't be surprised if usf or Ucf are invited. Huge institutions in crucial big markets in Florida ripe with ratings and recruiting. They will be sought after

I doubt ucf or usf gets invited to acc as long as miami and fla state are still there. if they go elsewhere, then probably one or both gets the invite.

Sources are close friends who are well connected. Also am hearing FSU is heading out. This is why UC is getting the nod.

I know this is all speculation. If FSU heads out, is the ACC the new Big East in terms of patching a conference together that will ultimately get raided by the SEC, Big 12, and Big 10?

Does ESPN have enough of a financial stake that they would behind the scenes try to keep the ACC together.

From what I am now hearing, expect the ACC to go through a major highjacking, similiar to what is happening to the Big East now. Only Duke seems stuck on the atlantic coast. Personally, I would rather head to the Big 12 instead of joining another dying conference.

It depends who stays on whether it is dying or not. A revamped ACC may be a new look BEast with Pitt, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Louisville and UConn. Add in some left over ACC schools and you have a very viable league. Just Duke alone with the 5 BEast schools and you have as good a top 6 in basketball as you'll find. Football will be still be comparable to what is in place with the BEast and a step better maybe with V. Tech.

I do believe you will see some ACC schools leave and I do believe FSU may be one of them because they are clearly football driven. Basketball wise I would like the ACC very much.

How long do you think Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Pitt will stay once the smoke clears? Not long I imagine.

Great post Jeff. The ACC is our best option right now.Hope it all works out. Football drives the financial train. Getting ourselves in a situation where we can fund all our sports through Football is very important.

As much as I would like to see UC get an ACC invite, I don't see it coming. I think, unless the ACC makes the play to 16 teams (which is unlikely but not impossible) UC will still be in the Big East looking and hoping for the best.

I actually believe the wild card may be the Big 12. I think they will make a play to get to 12 sooner than later and may look to strike after the ACC goes to 14. I expect them to go after Florida State hard. Clemson would be on their list as well. If the Big 12 looks to expand, UC is in great shape. If FSU and Clemson go to the Big 12, I see UCF/USF, UL/UCONN and UC filling those spots in the ACC to go to 16. The ACC, out of fear of being raided again will go to 16 to be the first true mega conference. If FSU and Clemson don't leave, I see the Big 12 looking at UC and UL to go to 12. I still think BYU holds out. They could be the one to really screw UC IMO.

Of course, this realignment crap is subject to change at a moment's notice. I do feel better with the new UC President handling this, though. President Williams was WAY too married to the Big East to be proactive enough to keep UC relevant. Of course, that is pure speculation and things could have been going on behind the scenes. I believe the new President will be very proactive as he appears to be a huge UC sports fan.

I just heard on the radio that there's a 4 pm press conference from UC. Should be interesting.

Reports of a 3 p.m. press conference or any announcement are both false and inaccurate.
