We are #26 in the country. Michigan St still in the top 25 with 7 loses. I think the ranking is fair.

Our ranking? Or Michigan State?

I can't complain about #26.

I think we jump to #18-#22 if we win both games this week: Rutgers (Wed) and WVU (Sat).

19-3 (6-3) looks damn sexy.

I too think this is a fair rank for us. Although I do disagree with Mich. St., Florida, and Vandy being in there. But, they are just rankings and you just need to win games on the court is what is important. If we win both games this week I would say we jump anywhere from #20-25. Big, big games this week. Like the post above me says, 19-3, 6-3 does like miiiiiighty fine!

As long as UC takes care of Rutgers Wed. that game against Huggy Bear Saturday is going to be very big for both teams. WVU is not safe right now, especially after that bad loss to Marshall.

It's interesting to see the disparity between the AP and Coaches' polls. I know that we have been talking about the AP poll more lately (because we were ranked in it), but is one generally considered more correct than the other?

An example of the disparity is that we have 20 more votes than Arizona in the AP, and 20 less votes than Arizona in the Coaches'.

more importantly UC's RPI is now hovering around in the mid 30s. I think the rpi is a stupid way of evaluating teams, but the tournament committee still uses it...so at least its improving and will if they keep winning. One day, theyll come around and start using kenpom and pt per poss stats and ways to evaluate a team.

By all indications this is looking more and more like a tournament team on paper. That is all we care about. Rpi is getting better and better. SOS improving drastically each week. Record looks the part.

I think the ranking is fair. If I had a choice of 25 or 26 going into the next 2 games, I would prefer them being ranked 26. This will undoubtedly be used by the coaching staff as a motivational tool. Hopefully, it allows them to remain focused and put beatdowns on RU and WVU.

We're primed to deliver two solid beatdowns.

Rutgers is offensively challenged, and we're the #1 BE defense.

Also, WVU is struggling and can't score. Shoot, they beat USF at home 56-46, or something really low. Stop Casey Mitchell and we should rout them.

I know that we struggle on offense, but we're much better at home. We'll score around 70 in both games....and I don't think RU or WVU has any chance to get above 65.

Every game is important, but especially home games that SHOULD be won.

I have no problem with our ranking. I do have a problem with the polls as a whole.

Cincinnati has had their chances to garner national respect and has not passed the eye test. Unfortunately that is what many go on. We are 17-3, 38th rpi, with 2 solid rpi wins over teams in the top 27. I think our SOS is down to 140 and climbing every game. We can add another very good rpi win this week by taking care of business at home against WVU (14th rpi). This team is sitting in good position right now.

I believe the AP poll is the more accurate one of the two. There have been several instances in recent years where coaches who were supposed to be voting turned over their vote to someone else within the athletic department which is a big no no. The coaches don't have time to watch other games between watching film on the two teams they are playing that week, their practice schedule and their games. So, it is my opinion that the AP voters are more likely to watch more teams play each week than the coaches and why I feel that poll is generally more accurate.

The two polls have about the same validity, which is little. You could probably make a case for every team between 15th and 35th to be in the top 25.
UC is in good shape, we haven't been penalized all that much for our losses on the road, I'll take 26 and if we win both of our upcoming games, will move into the top 25 in both polls.

There are really only two games left that would be considered bad losses and that is @Providence and @DePaul. Take care of those two and there will be no blemishes on the record in terms of bad losses. If the Bearcats win those two on the road and go 8-1 at home, they are 11-7 in the league and easily in the Tourney.

Home against Rutgers would be a bad loss.

The coaches do not actually vote in the poll, they delegate the voting to the basketball operations manager or some other lackey as the coaches are more concerned with coaching their team then voting in a poll.

They are not supposed to do this and some coaches got caught a few years ago. It was a big deal for about 15 minutes.

I think our ranking is fair. Michigan St. has several quality top 25 wins and their losses have all come against the same. Once we beat a couple upper level teams, the Cats should be entrenched in the group.
