Pitt is getting embarrassed on their home floor against George Washington in first round NIT. There might be 1-2k people in attendance. God the NIT is such a disappointment lol.

Pitt played (and won) the CBI a few years ago. They've had a really poor stretch since losing to Butler as a 1 seed in the second round.

I want one of these Mormon young men on our roster. What they lack in athleticism they make up for with shooting ability.

smu/ucla

I feel a little sorry for SMU - No team in the tourney is going to have a bigger chip on their shoulder than UCLA - They are the name that comes up constantly as to who shouldn't have made it, the team least deserving etc. SMU may prove that's true, or they may run into a team galvanized to prove itself worthy.

You don't think the snub that SMU got last year by the selection committee is a motivating factor for SMU?

Actually I think much of that is over rated. I have been in quite a few competitive situations and once the games started all that goes out the window. All these guys want to advance.

Exactly Waite. Its all hot air and hype. Once the game starts, none of that matters. Players have their mind on the game, scouting report because if they don't, most likely they will lose.

I agree Waite. Anything "extra" that a team brings will wear off after a couple times up and down.

The "extra" is the focus and determination a team brings prepping BEFORE the game. I agree that during the game it doesn't matter so much - but it does matter how much you "get up" for a game. That's why rivalry games are so intense. Think UC & X don't gear up a little more for that game? Why do coaches always say nice things about an opponent before a game? Why not say "they suck, we should stomp them into the ground with our cheerleaders"? If it doesn't matter....'course a team shouldn't need any additional motivation when it's a one & done tourney, everyone one this board talks about the Cats playing with a chip, an us against them mentality, s little extra motivation to prove the naysayers wrong - I think it's a real phenomenon.

It helps sell the product. At the end of the day it has very little effect on the game. I do agree that a Coach can use it to help motivate the players prior to the game. Help improve the focus.

This is OT, if you have Showtime, they aired a 90 min story titled "Hoops U" yesterday. They followed Notre Same and Maryland from basically February til last Saturday.(they finished the conference tourney) This was an awesome inside look into two top tier locker rooms. I didn't really care about Maryland (focused on Dez Wells a lot) but it was really interesting to see Mike Brey in action. Pretty cool how they went through the tough loss stretch but just dominated the ACC tourney. They focused a lot on Jerian Grant, the guy is a stud. The pedigree Grant comes from is ridiculous. I would say he has lived with a lot of pressure to perform, which he has delivered. But man does ND have some shooters. Anyways, I would recommend watching it if you're able to. Great inside look into college basketball.

Didn't know where else to put this put found this article talking about the bottom of the AAC being a lot in proved next year. I think the AAC is going to have a strong showing this year
Here's the paragraph on the AAC:

4. The bottom of the American Conference is catching up to the middle: This league has probably gotten one less team in the NCAA Tournament than it's deserved to in each of the past two seasons and one of the main reasons for that is the American's RPI as a conference wasn't where it needed to be. That should change next year. Teams at the bottom of the league should be much improved and that will help the overall perception and standing of the conference from a national perspective. Houston will add Purdue transfer Ronnie Johnson at point guard as well as former Oregon guard Damyean Dotson, who averaged 9.4 points two years ago for the Ducks. Kelvin Sampson's squad also brings back three starting caliber players in L.J. Rose, Devonta Pollard, and Danrad "Chicken" Knowles. South Florida meanwhile, will have a completely new back court with Maryland transfer Roddy Peters and JUCO import Shawn Smith (Lee College). The Bulls will also return Nehemias Morillo (10.1 points) on the perimeter and will have Gonzaga transfer Angel Nunez (immediately eligible) visiting the Tampa campus this weekend. Another team to watch in the American? Central Florida. The Knights' top three scorers this past season --- B.J. Taylor, Adonys Henriquez and Brandon Goodwin --- were all freshmen and sophomores and they also add 7-5 freshman big man Tacko Fall and JUCO wing Tanksley Efianayi. These three teams should all be significantly better than they were a year ago when they were a combined 34-60 overall.

East Carolina has some young talent as well. The league HAS to do better in non-conference play to legitimize itself above the the top 4-5 teams; most of which fell short in non-conference play as well.
