I'm excited, and glad USA Today projects us to be in the tournament... but holy crap, what a poorly written article.

Two paragraphs in, we have this "gem" of a sentence: "Then he found out heralded recruit Jermaine Lawrence, a 6-9 forward rated in the top 20 for the class of 2013."

Then, we get this beauty: "Lawrence, the shot-swatting 6-9 big man, might be the best freshman to play for Cronin since Kenyon Martin." Kenyon Martin had a pretty uneventful freshman year coming off the bench, if I recall correctly.

I wish I could get paid to work for a national publication. I may not have a degree in journalism, but you can bet I would do my homework before I write an article.

The article was pretty awful, but a projection of a #10 seed is about where I have this team. There will be a lot of growing pains, but I think this team will be playing it's best basketball at the end of season. A lot of young players are going to be counted on.

I thought the same thing when reading the article. First off Cronin wasn't head coach then and if we're going on his assistant days, he had a few really good ones at Louisville. Second Kenyon wasn't a difference maker his freshman year. Should've been worded Lawrence might turn out to be the best Bearcat since Kenyon Martin if you're going to compare the two. Even that would be hard to do with Logan being since then. If you're going to be lazy just say Lance Stephenson. You wouldn't have to put much thought into it and it would probably be accurate.

Lawrence is the real deal. He's much more polished than Kenyon Martin was his freshman year. Under Mick's guidance, he will reach his full potential

It would be nice if the frosh kids could contribute.
That said, it would be even more so if Davis, Guyn, Sanders and Jackson stepped up a little and especially if Nyarsuk would play like he did @Pitt last year for the whole season. We'll see what they can do. Luckily, the competition won't be as stacked this year.

Is the UC website messed up for anyone else? Its a complete mess for me. I dont really know how to explain it , but its been like this for a few days for me..pretty much completely unreadable.

First exhibition game is one month from today! On that note, I'm glad they put the exhibitions back to Saturdays this year. If I'm going to go to a pointless game at least don't make me lose a night's sleep over it.

Yeah, I have the same thing, just click on printer friendly version and the regular article will appear. I wonder if they are doing site maintenance or something.....

A couple of notes from Mick, courtesy of John Rothstein (@JonRothstein):

Mick Cronin on Cincinnati "We have incredible length defensively. I think we can be a Top-5 defensive team in the country. That's my hope."

Cronin on Sean Kilpatrick "I've never had a player get as much out his ability as SK."

Cronin on Shaquille Thomas "He finished last year on a very high note. He's an incredible athlete."

Cronin on Justin Jackson "He's got me excited. He's gained 20 pounds. He looks like Eric Hicks right now."

Cronin on Jermaine Lawrence "He's a highly skilled forward. He's just needs to get stronger and put on weight."

Cronin on Gelawn Guyn "He'll be a much improved player as a junior."

Cronin on UC's 3 freshman guards "Troy Caupain is the best passer. Kevin Johnson is the best shooter. Deshaun Morman is the best scorer."

Cronin on Jermaine Sanders "He's a cerebral player. We need him to become an offensive factor."

Rothstein's early prediction on Cincinnati starting 5 --- Troy Caupain, Sean Kilpatrick, Shaquille Thomas, Titus Rubles, Justin Jackson....

I'm sure he knows his stuff but I can't believe Rubles will start over Lawrence...and thats without seeing Lawrence play.

Rubles is the second best returning player on the team, and is probably the second most important as well. He led the team in rebounding and is the leading returner in assists. Rubles will start and play a lot. He is a good player....

He is, although I really hope he becomes at least an average shooter so that he can drive more, he was good when teams didnt take away the lane and make him shoot.
