Does UC need a collection of its role players from last season to step into feature roles? Of course. Is that reason for concern? Absolutely not.

The moral of this story is the UC fan base, particularly of late, tends to be so introspective about the concerns and frustrations of the team it fails to look around at the competitive landscape. The reality is you could make an argument 10 of the other 15 teams in the league suffered more devastating offensive departures than the Bearcats. Those that did not being Georgetown, Pitt, Seton Hall, St. John's and Marquette.

Don't think this is a claim that the Bearcats should be ranked in the top of the Big East preseason. You better believe I understand how losing the top two scorers from a team that already had problems putting the ball in the bucket makes a greater impact on their losses.

The only claim I make is for folks to take the blinders off and look around. Everyone in the Big East has scoring to replace. The majority of which are more significant departures than those of the Bearcats.

Whoever wrote this blog left out the fact that most of these schools are bringing in players that can help right away.

Cuse,nove,G-Town, Marq, and UConn are bringing in outstanding classes. Ville also has a nice class coming in. All these schools were able to bring in players that can help make up for the loss in scoring. UC not so much.

Everybody lose players, It's what you have coming in that keeps you going. This is where Cronin has failed at. Unless you're happy with Gains and Jackson and a player nobody is sure how he will play in, killa.

IMO, this blog makes zero sense.

You are forgetting Sean Kilpatrick who could be Big East Rookie of the Year this year.

Nope, I mention Killa.

And not a chance in he**. Some outstanding freshman coming in this year. Not saying that Killa won't have a good year, just some really nasty players coming in this year.

I would say De Melo from Cuse is hands down the favorite to win that award. One heck of a player.

Maybe so but SK has a leg up on him. He practiced all year with the Cats and could see what it takes to be big time in the Big East. Don't be shocked if he wins the award is all I'm saying. Is he the favorite? Probably not. But he could definitely win it.

Honestly, he needs to be in the running for that award this year for the Cats to make the NCAA Tourney. I think Jackson will give some good minutes but the keys to this team this year will be Cash staying healthy and improving, Gates finally kicking that motor in gear, and SK providing a scoring punch as a freshman. A lot to ask but nothing crazy there I don't think.

I agree mostly. If Cash starts to struggle again, I want to see Parker starting and playing more. He is really strong with the ball, has a good ball iq, plays solid D, and scores from deep. Needs to work on passing and playing more aggresive.

I think Thomas is the key down low more then the freshmans coming in. If him and Gates can gell and play well, UC is looking pretty good down low. Just need both to score more.

Anything that Kilpatrick brings is a plus.

I think Uc will be ok it seemed to me that they were almost star struck with LS. Im not saying that he was there down fall because he had a very respectible freshman year but everyone was standing around all the time watching him. I think the big east tournament showed that we really didnt rely upon LS or Vaughn to score 50% of our points. We were very competive with West Virginia, had it not been Dions brain cramp and a couple blind calls we would of won that game. All this means is just because we lost Vaughn and LS doesnt mean we lost our team. I think Justin Jackson will be very important to the team with his energy and shot blocking and KG the same, I dont care what anyone says about KG i think he will suprise some people this yr. Uc cant pull in 5 star talent until they start winning but on the other hand they have 2 very good guards. a player at Sf namd Sk who is supposed to be a scoring machine, a PF in Ibrahima Thomas who i think progressed the most of all players last year and a surefire lottery pick at center if he ever wakes up and plays like Eric Hicks. After looking at it that away we are not going to win the big east but making the tournament i think we will accomplish. We only had 3 spots to fill this yr no Highschool player is going to want to come in and have to fight for a starting spot they want to start right away. AS for the recruits for 2011 i think that we will be loaded because they will have immediate playing time!!!

There is only one question in the starting line up. Who will start at pg? The line up will be as follows:

Parker/Cash
Killa
Bishop
Gates
Thomas

Parker will rotate to the 2 guard position no matter what. This may change if Guyn plays in 2010, but as of now there are only 2 guys who can legitimately play the point and you can't have them on the floor together all game long. Bishop will be back. It's not a question of if, but when. He will be your starting sf and he will be much more aggressive offensively. Killa and Dixon, will both see time at sf. Jackson and Wilks will both play minutes, and Biggie will get "some" time against certain opponents. Gaines is very athletic, but very raw. If he acclimates defensively very quickly, he'll eat up what minutes Biggie would get. Davis is working very hard on his shot this offseason and could be an X factor if he finds some consistency with the 3 ball.

This team will be better than many think. Not going to be league champions, but they will surprise some folks and be better than anticipated.

I honestly don't see anyway Cash isn't the starting point guard and getting at least 30-32 minutes a game. Barring injury of course. I'm not sold on Parker as a pg. I know he can do it, but he seems to be more a shooting guard to me. I think if we see Parker at the point a lot we'll see the same boring offense we've seen the past few years. And that's not meant to be a knock on Parker. For this team to be successful I think Cash has to step up and run this team.

I have that same feeling about Bishop. I obviously don't have any inside sources like you, but I think we'd have heard it by now if he were let go. Plus I can't see Mick burning two scholarships this year.

I think Cash will start at the point if healthy and Parker will play 20 minutes or more spelling the 1, 2, and 3 positions.

Role players

I think the starting lineup will be

pg- Cashmere Wright
sg- Sean Kilpatrick
sf-Rashaad Bishop
pf- Ibrahima Thomas
C- Yancey gates

first off bench- jaquon parker, darnell wilks
I really am hoping that Jaquon Parker is going to be a starter whether its at the PG spot or the Sg spot. I see alot of potential with him being a physical guard who CAN SHOOT!!! I think he plays under control and will be better suited after a yr of big east play. As for Larry or Dion i hope they find another team because if we rely on anything from them 2 we are in trouble. If Darnell can stop making dumb mistakes and use his athleticism for him instead of against him, he has a great chance of becoming a solid player. The talent for a tournament team is there can Cronin lead the way, I sure hope so because im tired of not watching them in march. I think had we made the tournament last year UC would of made some noise.

Mick stated when he arrived that in his ideal style he'd like two people capable of playing the point guard position on the floor at the same time to allow for more fast breaks. They may not start together but Cash and Park will see the floor together for a lot of minutes.

I agree. Dixon, Bishop and Kilpatrick can all handle the ball as well. I think we'll see at least three of these guys on the floor a lot of the time. You could probably throw Davis into that mix as well.

I stated somewhere that Parker will play 20 plus minutes playing the 1, 2, and 3 positions. Of course they will spend some time together on the floor.
