BE Bball schools hold meeting

If Temple has full voting rights, then these schools are stupid and will lose MILLIONS. I believe they are voting to dissolve the league and citing that Temple does not have full voting rights because their basketball program is not yet part of the league. This is not over yet by a long shot. A lot of lawyers fees are upcoming...

It will be up to the lawyers but I don't think there is any way that the Big East could win any case against these schools. Clearly nothing that has been done has been done with the bball schools best interests in mind. If the Big East ultimately had to settle with WVU there is no way they could ever win a lawsuit against the bball schools. Most likely there will be some sort of settlement over the dividing of the assets and next season the Big East will be done.

Yes. The Big East is done. What is not done is the financial aspect of this. That is what I meant by this not being done.

What do you mean? The big east is finished as a league and unfortunately the bball schools keep the name and brand

None of that is decided. It is becoming clearer that they won;t be able to dissolve the league and will have to separate. That brings up a lot more questions and things to be hashed out.

It is going to be very costly for the basketball schools to separate. The attorney fees alone will be in the $millions as the football schools will not let them go quietly.

Heard Jimmy Buffett "I don't know where Imma gonna go when the volcano blows" today and I couldn't help but laugh...

While I don't like being in limbo and not knowing where we're going. I do believe UC will land on their feet and in a better situation. I have faith in that.

As for the b-ball only schools forming their own conference and stealing some A-10 schools, I always thought that would happen eventually anyway, so I'm not shocked. I do agree with others that they will take a huge TV revenue cut by doing so. But maybe they see the writing on the wall and want to simply stabilize the conference situation. And maybe they're just mad at the f-ball schools. Either way, I could care less what they do or what Xavier does. Xavier will always be little brother to UC.

It depends on what the lawyers figure out. If the league dissolves then they will be able to take the name, MSG tourney and everything that goes with it including the auto bid to the NCAA tourney. If they are not able to dissolve the league then they will not be able to take any of that with them.

How could the basketball schools take the name Big East with them should the league dissolve? Seems to me the football schools would have as much right to the Big East name and MSG as the basketball schools. All of the football schools play basketball.

They have ruling 2/3 majority vote right now.

From what I have read there is some legal debate as to Temple, which means the vote is 6-4. Most of the newspaper articles state voting to dissolve is not a viable option, that the seven would leave and the legal wrangling would then begin.

That is the big legal question, they are only a partial member right now, do they get a vote. It is the John Wayne Bobbitt dilemma!!

Per Pete Thamel

2 football members must vote in favor to dissolve. Therefore, the football schools will be keeping the Big East name, money, and MSG.

@SIPeteThamel: Talk of Big East “dissolving” and votes needed is moot. Bylaws say 2 FB schools need to vote for dissolution. The 7 will just leave.

Not to toot my own horn but saw this coming.

CINCINNATI AND UCONN SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CAMPAIGNING PUBLICLY TO JOIN THE ACC.

Now all the other schools know they want to leave so any attempt to convince them not to leave is less genuine.

This has less to do with campaigning and more to do with Tulane being added.

Big East source now says Catholics can't dissolve the league b/c at least two football and two basketball members must vote to dissolve.

The Catholics would not have to pay the $10 million exit fee if they leave as group, but would have to wait 27 months, Big East source says

@McMurphyESPN: Big East hoops schools can't dissolve league, sources told @espn. Can leave as group w/out paying exit fees, but must wait 27 months

This whole thing is such a joke. UC football and b-ball just needs to keep winning/retaining coaches and the rest will solve itself.
