Yeah, that seems to be the only hope for Big East football, but I feel like Notre Dame is too stuborn and prideful to join a football conference at this point, even though it seems that they would stand to benefit financially.

The Notre Dame AD has said that he has carefully been monitoring the progress of conference expansion as well as attempting to lay out all of ND's options. He has said that he would like to remain independent, but the circumstances may force ND to join a conference.

ESPN botttomline crawler during UC/Pitt replay states that Jim Delaney says that they are nowhere near formal expansion. Everybody breath or everybody say "BS"

Listening to ESPN radio today Cowherd stated that if the Big 10 would expand to 16 the SEC stated they also would expand to 16. Herd mentioned Syracuse, UConn, Rutgers, and Pitt as 4 of the 5 to the Big 10, that would leave UC, Louisville, West Virginia, and South Florida to the SEC. This expansion stuff could get real interesting.

The Big East has hired former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue as a special consultant. BE Commissioner says he is not letting BE get raided without a fight. He has speculated they could be looking at starting a BE Network, making the league more attractive and doing a raid of their own. Hold on to your hats folks. This one is going to get interesting.

I still hope to see the league split to 2 divisions. I also like that they are looking at a BEast Network. I hope they still partner with ESPN. With the New York market, a network would be huge.

I've got a bad feeling about the move. Maybe Cincy could join the ACC if the BE goes Belly up in football. I'm wondering if they wouldn't want an Ohio market for the southern schools..

As a Big East fan and a Big Ten fan, I sincerely hope the Big 10 only adds 1 school. That school, IMO, should be Notre Dame.

ND has 0 interest in joining Big 10 they will remain independent. Should the Big 10 add 5 schools UC and Louisville will join the SEC.

I think the SEC would probably raid the ACC before they raid the Big East. Geographically I couldn't see them taking UC or WV. UofL and S. Florida might make sense. But Clemson, G.Tech, FSU, Miami, even UNC, Va or V Tech seem to be better. Now we could fall in line and possibly go to the ACC if they get raided. I honestly don't see either league going to 16. That's way too many teams, especially in football. You would only play half the teams. UC's in a really awkward place geographically. They are on the edge of everybody. Ideally they should be a Big Ten team, but I don't think we'll ever get that invite (nor would I want it). We just got to hope the Big East can hold it's own and somehow replace whoever we lose. I think they need to find a way to move first. Either lock teams in for a while or raid some leagues first (Boston College). Maybe use ESPN's money and influence.

It's not going to end up good for UC, no matter how you slice it.

If UC can end up in the ACC or SEC then it ends up well. As long as we are in a major football conference then I am OK with any move. I like being in the Big East, but having the basketball only schools carry 50% of the vote will never enable the football side to become one of the top conferences.

Maybe, but UC immediately loses the edge as fair as being a leader in the conference to a mid-tier one. Recruiting would pick up some, but it will take time. In the long run, it might be beneficial, but that's what was also said about UC moving to the BE (hoops only, now). I'm thinking more in terms of the next 5 years or so.

A BEast Network and the revenue it would bring is the counterpoint. If they can get a league network contract none of the expansion talk matters. ESPN either has to partner with the BEast or the BEast needs to move on. The revenue for the leagues markets would be huge.

Revenue for the school is much needed, no doubt. Victories and BCS bowls are what UC is growing accustomed to. Mich St, Penn St and Wisconsin are solid teams in the Big 10, and with expansion coming, how many BCS bowls will they win with Michigan (getting better slowly but surely and OSU around? Don't get me wrong, UC can compete in the ACC, but the gauntlet would certainly mean no 11-1, 12-0 seasons. UC will likely never be able to compete (recruiting wise) on the same level with FSU, VT, and Miami...not to forget Clemson, UNC, and GT. See where I'm going with this? I fear a .500 level team in the ACC much like UC hoops is seeing in the BE.
It probably would be our best bet, and perhaps I'm wrong, but that's my thought.

SWG,

If UC ends up in the ACC it would be becausethe B10 takes three or more from the BE. A college football arms race would begin and the SEC would most likely respond by taking Clemson, Fla State, Miami and Georgia Tech. The ACC would then take the BE remnants of UCONN, WVU, UC, UL, and USF. The conference would look like:

BC
UCONN
WVU
UC
UL
MD
Va Tech
VA
NC State
NC
Duke
Wake
USF

UC could compete very well in that conference. I think we could compete over .500 in football most of the time just as long as we stay on track. We could recruit very well in that conference. Keep in mind, I think we are on the cusps of recruiting well now, just as long as we get some stability in coaching and are assured to be in a BCS AQ conference. As we all know there is a lot of talent in Ohio, KY, Michigan and Indiana. We would coulld also draw talent from the Carolinas, Virginia, MD, and Florida.
