I don't disagree with your premise. What I'm saying is isn't it a bit sad that a hiring edge is given based on how a applicants alma mater did on the grid iron versus his actual qualifications. As a former manager in industry and a retired military member I can tell you I could careless about an applicant's school's athletics performance.

I completely agree it is messed up. Hopefully society shifts away from it, but I dont see that happening soon. The good news is once people are in interview, I believe people are given a fair chance. You are hiring the person, not their school.

Come on now old school you know the game is, "it isnt what you know but who you know".

Lol! Certainly there is some truth to that. I always found those that operated that way eventually regretted it. Especially if their organization was big on accountability. I always found the less I saw of safety, auditors,IR,HR environmental and quality the more effective I was at my position. When you have good people working for you can minimize the amount of time required to visit with those folks and focus on the task at hand.

I remembered this article today, and it is a great example of brand recognition's impact on applications to universities.

Another thought to add to this, is if you are sorting through applications at a small to medium size company in California, are you more likely to select a FGCU or NKU application if everything else is relatively equal? They are both in the same conference, but the brand recognition is a huge help on getting that first interview.

There's a better chance than not that your solid university will be invited to join the Big 12 late this Summer. Number 2 is up in the air between UConn (espn), UCF (Florida recruiting), BYU (great but will not play on Sunday), Memphis (good geographical fit), Houston (no chance- everyone hates). Who would you guys want as number 2?
I believe that Cincinnati and BYU would be the most logical teams to add to the BIG12. BYU is rough because they absolutely do not play on Sunday, but they would bring in the most revenue to the BIG 12. More money in Cincinnati's Pockets as well. Its a no-brainer even though they are far away, our fans are everywhere. In the end, i believe it is all about money. BEARCATS & COUGARS TO BIG12!!!

That’s why sometime in late October, provided the college football and conference realignment landscape doesn’t once again change, the Big 12 will vote to add BYU and Houston as members for the 2017 season.

Don’t miss the significance of that point. The Big 12 would like new members to begin conference play in 2017. BYU, being an independent, has no problem. Houston has more than one billionaire booster willing to pay for the Cougar’s early exit from the AAC. Can the Bearcats say the same?

In the end, it looks like the Bearcats will lose out, because if the Big 12 is going to expand, how can it disregard the advice of it television partners and consultants? How can the most dysfunctional conference in college football not see the value in adding Houston if the grant of rights is extended as a result?

Cincinnati, Houston best picks for Big 12 expansion

Rumors have been swirling of late about the expansion of the Big 12 Conference. Some people want a football power like BYU to join, others prefer to keep it close to home with a school like Colorado State. While both of those schools would benefit the conference, neither are the best options.

At the top of the list are the Cincinnati Bearcats. The location of the school alone makes perfect sense.

This would mostly benefit West Virginia, as it would give them a school closer to travel to, virtually the same distance from Manhattan to dreaded Norman, Oklahoma. On the field, the Bearcats are no slouch either, making it to a bowl game nine out of the last 10 years and have a winning season in each of those years.

What is often overlooked is the talent a school has in basketball. Although men’s basketball doesn’t make as much money as college football, there is still money to be made and popularity to be gained.

Head basketball coach Mick Cronin has led the Bearcats to the NCAA tournament each of his last six seasons, including an American Athletic Conference championship. And it’s not like the Bearcats haven’t reached this level of success before, Bob Huggins led his squads to 14 straight tournament appearances in years past.

The next, and final, school the Big 12 should add is another Texas school, the Houston Cougars. Geographically, again, it makes complete sense. Why not play another football game in Texas in early December?

It’s not like the weather is going to be awful, and besides West Virginia, and possibly added Cincinnati, is within close proximity to every other school. Houston also just came in at No. 15 in the AP poll.

Now let me ask you this: Who wouldn’t want the 15th best college football team in the country in their conference? The Cougars, who have been to a bowl game 10 of the last 13 seasons, and currently have a Heisman Trophy contender in Greg Ward Jr.

Ranked, bowl games and a Heisman candidate; sounds like a pretty good team to have in your conference.

On the basketball court, Houston, by any means of the matter, isn’t the best team to have at all, with their record leveling at about .500, give or take a few wins per year. Some would stop the Houston discussion right there, but look at TCU. Besides stunning KU one time (which I think we all enjoyed), what memorable wins does TCU have in the conference?

Football is where a big chunk of consideration is taken from, and while a basketball situation like Cincinnati’s is always beneficial, it’s not a deal breaker.

So sorry BYU, Justin Timberlake and Memphis and any other school who actually thought they had a legitimate chance to join the conference, but the situations in Cincinnati and Houston are just too good for the conference to pass up.

Did you really post a "thedudeofwv" article and pretend it has any credibility? This guy has been discredited constantly regarding Big 12 expansion.

+1, posting a contrived dribble piece from Christopher Lambert=Catfished. The best part of his article are the comments down below where he puts fake attests to his credibility. They have to be the worst in the history of the internet.

Thanks for pointing the comments out, completely missed that idiocracy the first time. It amazes me the shit that guy can spew on a daily basis.

Just shows the depths NTS will go to to try to support his "predictions". He loves being the only poster on here openly rooting AGAINST UC getting into the Big 12.

But he's a friend of the program. He's a big fan, just never has anything good to say about anything regarding the school, it's leadership, coaches or teams.

But he's been posting here for over 10 years, so clearly he's a fan.

What a tool.

While I'm excited for the Big 12 in football, I am chomping at the bit for basketball. Can you guys imagine the quality of teams coming through? Basically every conference home game is quality. Mix that with a new arena, the atmosphere will be electric every game.
