Butch to Purpooh?

Honestly, I really don't care if Butch leaves. I think he has done a slightly above average job here at UC and he grossly underachieved this season especially. There is no reason why we should have more than one loss in conference this year and that is being generous. I think he is like 22-14 all time record and with our weak schedule that IMO is a fail. I have nothing against the guy, I think he seems nice and personable, but I haven't been impressed with his coaching style. I think the only reason why I would be some what upset is that I am tired of all the coaching changes and something that resembled stability would be nice. I also think both of those coaching positions at Colorado and Purdue are a pure lateral move and if he left it would solely be about money. If that is Butch's M.O. then so be it, adios.

I think Butch has done a very good job. He hasn't done a BK type job but BK might just be one of the top 5 coaches in all of college football. Dantonio did a great job building a talented roster and BK got the max out of those players. Butch has also done a great job of taking our recruiting to new heights. We have more young talent on this roster than we've ever had before as a program. If Butch decides to stay I hope he stays for a long time because I think he's building a great program. If he leaves I hope we can get another innovative offensive mind in here who can squeeze the most out of the talent that we already have.

Per the Enquire, Jones is going to make his decision sometime tomorrow. Seeing that it is so soon after his visit I feel almost certain he is going to Colorado.

Per the Denver Post, they are close to an agreement with Butch. Let the scramble start again.

Yup, I am sure the next guy will be a great up and coming coach who will be on the 3 year plan. My only wish is its a coach that has a strong offensive mind. We have been spoiled with good offense and don't think I could enjoy watching games like the big ten style.

I have a crazy idea that isn't likely to happen. Anyone remember Joe Tresey? He coached at UC when we had studs on defense and suddenly got fired by BK because he wanted to switch to a 3-4. Interesting guy because he was good, knows UC, etc.

if butch goes to colorado or purdue it is going to be a coaching suicide. he will be lucky to have a bowl eligible team in his first few seasons then they will fire him and he will be on the outside looking in. look at what happened to Rich Rodriguez, he was living the dream at west virginia until he left for "greener pastures" to find out he would only have a job at michigan for a few years. atleast rodriguez leaving for lichigan was understandable due to the rich tradition and success of michigan football. colorado or purdue dont have any tradition or winning past, so i think a move to either of the schools would wither be a lateral move or a step back in the wrong direction for butch.

You can certainly understand there would be concerns when faced with uncertain, or undesirable, league affiliations. He has to do what he feels is best for him and his. UC will go on.

I agree with your above points. I wonder, if he does accept the CU job, what is his recruiting base going to be? He made some nice Ohio and Florida in-roads during his time here. Will he be able to lure those kids out West?

Whether he's in the Big East or ACC, he's going to have a better chance of winnng than the Pac 12. He's never going to get his team past USC, Stanford, Oregon, A UCLA team in the rise, and improving Arizona teams. I could see years of 6-6, and 7-5 records out there.

His recruiting pitch will be "come to Colorado, smoking pot is legal".

Santa Ono's Facebook status says, "dear bearcat nation. Wish me luck today. I promise to give it my all today."

I think its a done deal that Butch is gone but damn, I love our current president and only wish he could have been around years ago. I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes here at UC.

I'm sold on him as well. If anyone is going to get UC in a better conference and facility upgrades it will be him...it's still a big "if" but he'll go all out for it.

Tweet from football scoop says that Jones will attend the press conference for the Belk Bowl at 1pm but will not address job status until later on tonight. They're usually a very reliable source.

That makes me believe that he is not going to stay at UC. If he was staying it would be announced at this 1pm press conference.

I actually view this as a good thing. The longer a decision is not made and the longer it is since he was at Colorado, the more likely I think it is that he will stay. Look, if he wanted to leave and was looking for a way out, he would have signed a contract at Colorado yesterday and said "Thanks for the $2.7 Million per year." That didn't happen. He met with UC today and it seems obvious he heard some things that intrigue him about what UC's plans are. I think a decision later in the day benefits UC. That said, I thought it was a 20% chance yesterday that he would remain at UC and I still put it at less than 50% now. I would say 35% chance he stays. If he was completely sold on what UC pitched, it would be a no brainer and done. If he was completely sold on Colorado, it would be a no brainer and done. He is obviously conflicted.

If that is true, I would def. have to agree with you on that. It wouldn't make any sense for him to wait to announce it. I keep hearing that UC offered him a substantial amount as well which is nice. I just don't think Butch Jones is worth 2.5 million dollars a year. Colorado probably knows he isn't worth it either but since they have money to blow and money talks they set the bar just high enough to where UC isn't going to be able to match it.

You could look at this in a lot of ways in regards to the presser. Why would he have a presser for the UC bowl game then announce he is leaving after it? If he knew he was leaving, he would not do the presser and let the interim coach handle it.
I don't believe he has made a decision yet....

I am a bit confused to the logic that his not commenting on his job status at a 1PM presser for a bowl game means he is leaving UC. Can someone please explain the rationale further?

Since this presser is specifically about the bowl game, I don't think it would be appropriate to discuss his job status (leaving or going) anyway. Sure, it would be nice if this was decided before 1PM but even if it was I don't think they would be taking questions about it. If he was gone, obviously he wouldn't be doing the presser so I think it means that he either hasn't made a decision yet (likely) or he is staying at UC.

My initial thought when I heard that news was that it meant he had not yet decided what he wanted to do. Knowing that he had a meeting with Santa Ono this morning I would like to think that he left that meeting knowing that UC was where he wanted to stay. The fact that he wouldn't be able to come into a 1pm presser and say that he's staying still doesn't sit right with me.

A lot of people ask what the logic would be to showing up for a press conference and then announcing later that you're going to leave. I think Butch Jones is a classy guy and the logic could be to show up and thank his team and the fans and the university for a great season. Once he gets to thanks his players and say his peace without actually announcing that he's leaving he can board a plane and head to Colorado for a completely different type of press conference.

Just an alternate way of looking at it. I hope he stays but I don't feel good about the fact that he met with our President all morning and can't walk into a press conference at 1pm and announce he's staying. Not sure why that's hard to understand, am I thinking about this all wrong?

What time does the football team practice? Maybe the weird timing of not mentioning it at the 1:00PM press conference is to be able to tell the players first. Also, if a Belk Bowl representative is going to be present at the press conference, I can see why they would want to keep the focus on the Belk Bowl.
