I would really hope that if he knew he was leaving that he would not participate in this press conference.
My initial thought when I heard that news was that it meant he had not yet decided what he wanted to do. Knowing that he had a meeting with Santa Ono this morning I would like to think that he left that meeting knowing that UC was where he wanted to stay. The fact that he wouldn't be able to come into a 1pm presser and say that he's staying still doesn't sit right with me.
A lot of people ask what the logic would be to showing up for a press conference and then announcing later that you're going to leave. I think Butch Jones is a classy guy and the logic could be to show up and thank his team and the fans and the university for a great season. Once he gets to thanks his players and say his peace without actually announcing that he's leaving he can board a plane and head to Colorado for a completely different type of press conference.
Just an alternate way of looking at it. I hope he stays but I don't feel good about the fact that he met with our President all morning and can't walk into a press conference at 1pm and announce he's staying. Not sure why that's hard to understand, am I thinking about this all wrong?

Watch it live ^^.Not going to lie, Butch sounds scared talking right now, he has a crackling/nervousness in his tone. Clearly said he is not here to talk about him being a coach after being asked a couple times. But he did say "I'm here right now, and I think that speaks volumes." Which to me doesn't mean much.
Agree. But to his credit, if he was BK, he would have been gone 5 minutes after the UCONN game.
I guess I looked at it differently. I figured that if he was leaving he would decline to even participate in the press conference. Again, I think it is about 35% he stays. Just wanted to hear the rationale from the other side because I thought I might be looking at it wrong or missing something.
Again, this is such a ridiculous situation for coaches to be in. The NCAA should regulate this. No interviewing coaches of other teams prior to the end of their season (unless they were fired). It's unfair to the kids and puts the coaches in unfair situations. You mean to tell me that Colorado this year (and ND in Kelly's year) can't wait / couldn't wait one more month. It's ridiculous, and if the NCAA regulates it, everyone is playing by the same rules.
It just makes no sense. I'm trying to figure out what value the NCAA adds. It's so obvious that there needs to be rules here.
Personally, I think he is now going to talk to his team and discussed to them that he is going to continue to represent the "C" but its going to be for Colorado. Seriously though I think out of respect he will talk to his team and be honest with them, part ways with them, then tell the media.
I have to agree with Ralph. I think Butch will turn down Colorado's offer and wait for Wisconsin to call, since Bret Bielema took the job at Arkansas. Wisconsin would be a tough job to turn down, if you ask me.
Wisconsin isn't even interested in Jones.
Thanks for the info, Jason. I hope he isn't high on Wisconsin's list and that they go in a different direction. He's a perfect fit with UC, and Joe Danneman (@Fox19Joe) has tweeted that UC will match Colorado's offered salary. If Butch can revisit his contract and add a stipulation that Nippert and the facilities be upgraded, there's no reason (in my mind) that he should jump ship (UC would need to raise $7 million, though). Also, UC will end up in a different conference, eventually, it just may take some time.
True, you never know but I am not going to waste a second worrying about it. It does go to show you that fan attendance and support isn't anything. I also think that's a lame excuse uc coaches have given in the past & present to give a reason to the fans.Let me ask you this, how much did you hear Bielema's name attached to the Arkansas job?
The reality is you never know.

Except of course that low attendance means less $ and it's all about the $.
