Go cats

I dont know but they gave Dayton a run for there money. I still like our team we need Wright, Dixon, and Kilpatrick to step up big and i think with out question we are playing in ncaa tournament

Ugly, ugly game tonight... they still won comfortably but A LOT to work on before they face Dayton Saturday night...

I'll expand on this more later, but I think its time to start realizing our offense won't be much better than it was last year. Even in our last game when we shot something like 44% from 3, we only scored 76 points in 68 possessions against a really weak opponent. That simply isn't very good, especially when you consider that we will rarely shoot that well from 3.

I think they will get better offensively. Not saying they will be an offensive power house but they will improve.

You're dealing with a new pg, new starting sg, and a redshirt freshman, that are playing major minutes.

As they acclimate things will get better. They are missing too many easy shots and need to attack more.

Shouldn't matter, though, right ? These guys should be more talented than their opponents with or without coaching prowess. I think they need to improve as well, but at some level, you have to be able to hit shots. Maybe it's a lack of confidence ?

They still won by 13, over a team that Dayton just beat by 2. Our defensive effort was extraordinary. This team isn't going to score like crazy but if they can hit some shots it will be more than enough for them to win a lot of games. I'd like to see them average between 65-70 points. And I think they can certainly do that moving forward. I continue to see a lot of positive signs with both Cash and Yancy. They'll be fine.

One thing I noticed was Cronin kept the starting unit in the game together as much as possible. He kept them together for about the first 8 minutes each half and in the second half he ended up substituting them all out and running a very weird line-up of Parker, Davis, Kilpatrick, Wilks and Biggie for what seemed like at least four or five minutes, even keeping them in after a timeout when they weren't doing anything. In fact I think the team went scoreless in this stretch. In a typical game, I hope to never see Wilks , Davis and Biggie on the floor at the same time. I don't want to even see two of them on the floor at the same time. I'm guessing Cronin was trying to get his starting unit as much time to gel together and still spell them minutes to not get overworked in the early stretch of games (four in eight days). The only way to do that is to rest them all at the same time. If that was his strategy then I have no problem with it. They got an early lead and Savannah State wasn't doing anything to show they were going to make a comeback, even with our weakest line-up out there.

Disappointed with Kilpatrick last night. He went scoreless against a team he shouldn't have gone scoreless against, especially in that stretch where he was our best scoring option on the floor. I know it's four games into the season, but I'm hoping he gains some consistency soon and can earn that starting spot away from Bishop by the end of the non-conference slate. Bishop is effective on the defensive end, but isn't showing me any thing on offense and he still looks like he could care less to be out there. While it's tough to bench a senior, especially one that quite possibly is your best defensive player, I think he could be very effective off the bench and still could get up to 20 minutes a game. I just think it's so important to score early in the halves and we need our best offensive line-up out there. I hate getting out to slow starts. Get a decent lead and then get more defensive minded to hold the lead.

I disagree. Bishop was playing hard last night and IS the teams best defensive player. This team will have to rely on their defense to win games, as the offense will come and go. You have to have guys who can shut the other teams best player down, and Bishop gives UC the best chance to do that. Against Dayton, he will have the responsibilty of guarding Wright. If he makes sure Wright doesn't get off, then the Cats have a great chance of pulling out a win.

Cronin said he intentionally left the starters in for 8-9 minutes straight to start the second half to test their limits and see how they'd respond when pushed like that. So yes, there was a good reason that he did what he did.

If Wright is held under 15, I'm predicting a UC win... if he scores more than 20, Dayton wins. Anywhere in between and it's a toss up. :D
