I am not sure if you listened to Coach Cronin last night or not, but if not, I suggest checking out the podcast. http://www.700wlw.com/player/?station=WLW-AM&program_name=podcast&program_id=sports.xml&mid=21745328

A couple interesting points he made about recruiting:

1. Only offered 3 guys in early period because with 6 freshmen, the staff wasn't sure what they had or needed. They are trying to be selective and feel they are in a good spot to be able to do that.

2. Will sign 1 for sure and maybe 2 during the late signing period. Could also be in the market for a transfer if that presents itself. As Cronin said, they can't play 13 guys so filling both scholarships isn't critical.

3. Shaq Thomas is better than any recruit we were going to be able to sign this year. Cronin said he would make us even better offensively this season if he were eligible. Said there have been several times this year where he has been unstoppable in practice (sound familiar? recall similar stuff about SK as well). Cronin said he is a freak athlete who handles the ball like a PG and can really shoot it. Should be fun to see him and SK together next year!

4. Talked about his recruiting philosophy and called it "Front-end recruiting." Guys know what they are getting into when they commit here. Talked about Kelvin and Octavious and said that they aren't looking to transfer because they knew they needed to develop and they came here BECAUSE they wanted to develop. Guys aren't promised things that aren't happening.

Like everything I hear. Hopefully Shaq has become a very good shooter. He has great potential but when I saw him his shot needed a lot of work.

Frankly, so did SK's when he got here. Sounds like Shaq Thomas is putting in the work and should be an impact guy for us next year.

I think IF someone were to transfer it may be Gaines, especially if Mick signs both Rubles and Obekpa.

Gaines would have to really want out if he transfers considering he has already redshirted once. I doubt he would want to sit out another year unless he went D2.

SK was a very good shooter coming in, his range just didn't extend very far, and even then I think it was much better than Shaq's. From what I've seen of Thomas, even his shot within 10 feet is suspect. Granted, I'm not talking his shot looks like Drummond's, but for a SF it isn't great.

Shaq is not the shooter SK is, but Shaq has a very nice pull-up. Shaq will have instant impact next year at the 3.

I'm just basing it off of what I saw in videos and in DSL. He hit a couple jumpers but missed quite a few but more importantly his shot was extremely flat. Again though, IMO he had good form so by now he may have a very good jumper.

I am just relaying what Mick said and frankly he said that SK's jumper wasn't very good when he got here and scored most of his points driving to the rim in HS. SK spent a lot of extra time in the gym with LS working on his shot once he got here.

Sean was always a decent shooter, he wasn't consistent. Shaq will be a big in replacing points lost after the season. Gaines isn't going anywhere. He will play next season and as hard as he works I won't be surprised if he contributes. Guys this team has a bright future.

I cant help to think everytime the future comes up... DAMN, what if Parker was redshirted. Crap. Damn. Crap. Crap. Thats pretty much my thought process on that.

Feel the same way and also wish we had reshirted Wilks a few years ago.

I understand where you're coming from with Parker but I think we will be fine on the perimeter. We have Parker and Cash back one more season. Guyn and Davis will give us toughest going forward and you can count on guards in '13 being brought in. Not to mention the athleticism and ball skills Thomas has. i keep saying it, I love the future of this program.

Wilks wasn't any good even by his senior year. What makes you think one more year would have all of a sudden turned him into a player? I'm thankful for the scholarship. I like this recruiting class. Even Ellis seems way better than Wilks at the same stage.

Ya Wilks had a great BE tournament... Outside of that. well. ya.

I saw improvement every year, albeit very slowly. On top of it he never had an opportunity to play in this type of offense.

Well you would hope after for years there was at least a little improvement. Anyone in the program should improve a little, it's almost impossible not to.

Do you really think Wilks would be good in this offense? He had a terrible handle and was a poor decision maker. That's the last thing I would want in an 4 guard dribble drive offense. He averaged less than 4 points and 3 rebounds as a senior. Career averages of 2.8 pts and 1.8 rebounds. I'm happy with our current players.

3 words, worst passer ever!

The guy had more dumb turnovers than anyone in recent memory.
