The amount of $ UC loses by keeping him around will far outweigh the buyout. He is killing the program slowly. Soon people won't care about football anymore. He is a terrible fit for UC

Totally agree

10,000 less fans a game @ $20.00 per seat X 6 games = $1,200,000....not counting parking, concessions, or revenue for UCats.

That's a nice concept in theory but it's about cash on hand. The Big East money stops after this year. They are still raising 87 million for basketball. They as an athletic department are completely strapped with no end in sight. They have exhausted donors. I think they can come up with it and figure it out but it's not as simple as you make it seem. No reason to fire him now when you can save money that you need at the end of the year. Bohn just better be getting his list together so when they do fire him the search begins immediately. Im also very concerned about who the Cats would be able to get. We arent in the Big East anymore with a P5 bowl guarantee. I wanted PJ Fleck earlier in the year and that's not happening. May have to get creative. I've always hated the idea of former assistants that drove us nuts. I've seen Eddie G and Coombs suggested. I guess I would take a look at Coombs if the recruiting advantage would be high enough. Someone suggested Jim Tressel. Some out of the box thinking. I think most likely it will be a coordinator from a P5 team.

I don't think we will fire TT. My gut tells me he will be the HC next season. Not happy about that, but I think that's how it will be. Even if we finish 4-8.

They as an athletic department are not strapped and Tuberville's buyout is extremely reasonable.

I love how the myth of UC being broke always thrives on these boards, they're not broke, they have plenty of ways to access money when they need it. It's why TT is a well paid non P5 coach and why Mick is a highly paid coach. It's why they have been able to fund every single upgrade they've wanted to undertake in the last 15 years. UC as an institution or an athletic department is not strapped or broke. Anyone claiming they are has no clue what they're talking about, just more excuses from a fan base that is full of them.

If UC hires Kerry Coombs I will never attend another football game. You can't be serious!

Yeah my gut says the same. I hope he pulls a June Jones and resign in the middle of next season but it may take a loss to Miami to make that happen.

For me without inclusion in the Big 12 I could careless who is coaching our football team. I have always been more of a UC basketball fan then a football fan. I did enjoy the run we had but without getting into a P5 watching us beat up on or lose to the UCONN's and ECU's of the world does not excite me.

Waite you talk like we should shut down the football program. Way too much is invested at this point, despite remaining in the American. We can still fight for conference championships and compete for the automatic G5 bid into a New Year's 6 Bowl. We also pay a Top 50 salary. That's not nothing.

When the NCAA moves to an 8 team playoff and eventually a 16 team playoff not being a part of the P5 won't hurt us as much. We just need to aim high and try to compete with the Boise States and BYU's of the world year in and year out.

Well as always you completely overstated my point to fit your "OH MY GOD EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD IS AN APOLOGIST IDIOT FOR TT AND MICK CRONIN AND UC AND ITS LEADERS!!!!" agenda. The athletic department absolutely is concerned about funding. They have been operating in the Red more years than not. In fact in 2013 it was uncovered that a nearly $22 million “subsidy” from student fees and general-fund money that school officials gave to athletics in 2013, “to cover the difference between revenue and expenses”. In fact since 2007, University of Cincinnati trustees and administrators have used more than $127 million in student fees and general fund money to subsidize deficits in the athletic department. Now they are not unlike many other universities who use this tool but the athletic department has some major bills to pay and it cant pay for them by itself. So when it can save money the prudent thing to do would be to take the opportunity. (Which was my point) Nothing to be gained by canning the coach a month earlier than his buyout. Save the money (Which is needed) and go get a better coach.

As for Combs, I see you are another one that has a reading comprehension problem. Before I mentioned his name I said I hate the idea. However if his recruiting ties to the midwest (Especially Ohio where we havent recruited dick) outweigh the quality of coach we could bring in I would understand looking at that situation.

You're constant barrage of criticism of every single poster on here that is not as skeptical as you or L-T is way overplayed and really wreaks of a douche. You criticize almost every poster as an excuse maker or an apologist. Your opinion is clear. We understand you think lowly of us. Let it go man.

Your defensiveness speaks for itself. Feel free to use the ignore feature if you'd like.

My point is that the university has no problem paying for TT's buyout and I'm 10000% right. My other point is that the simple thought of Kerry Combs coaching football at UC is a complete joke and I'm also right about that.

Yet you do understand canning him now would just be throwing 900k down the drain for no reason for an athletic department that is in the red? Seems to me they have somewhat of a problem otherwise Tommy would already been shown the door. Combs would not be my 1st choice or my 10th. However its not an unreasonable suggestion to have his name on a list of candidates due to his ties to state, city, and university as well as his experience.

My defensiveness comes from you playing your same act over and over and over and over and over. It's fine you disagree with me. Or anyone else for that matter. However just because we disagree does not make us apologists or excuse makers. Just tiresome.

As for the ignore feature if it was worth a damn I would use it. When someone who is on the ignore list gets quoted it still shows up. (This was just a general comment, not specifically towards UCBearcats)

I never said they should can him now, apparently you may suffer from the same comprehension issues you suggest I do.

Your excuses are just as tiresome to me as my act is to you. Your post starts with providing an excuse or reason to justify why we shouldn't expect to be good. If you want to have low expectations feel free but you and others constantly saying bull crap like we're broke or we can't compete because of this or that are just full of $hit. The last thing this university needs are more fans who are willing to accept mediocrity and status quo because they read the constant BS on these boards.

We've been good before and there's no reason why anyone shouldn't expect that we become good again.

This was my original point. Someone asked why he hadnt been canned yet. I replied money. Then the argument started we can just go ahead and pay. My point was the athletic department is not in a position to just throw away 900k. I DONT HAVE LOW EXPECTATIONS! NO ONE ON HERE HAS LOW EXPECTATIONS. However you have to live in the real world. This isnt a video game where we can change conferences because we want to or change the settings to have an unlimited budget. The university and it's athletic department have to work within the confines of the reality they face. B10 schools will get almost 57 million in tv rights in 2018. We will get 1.6 million. We are at a CONSIDERABLE disadvantage. That is not an excuse. That is reality. We have to find new ways to be as competitive as we can. However with those schools having so much more than us they can pay the top coaches, they can pay for the top facilities, they get top exposure, they in turn get the best players. It's why it was so important to get into a P5 league. We can still hold coaches and admins accountable. We are about to fire TT. But to just think we can climb to the top of the mountain because we feel like it isnt living in reality. The landscape has shifted in collegiate sports. Just have to be as prepared as we can be when realignment comes back around. Those arent excuses. It's simply looking at the situation we are in and coming to a reasonable conclusion that we are at a disadvantage right now in this landscape.

Not saying that at all Jake. For me though I have lost a bunch of interest in it. I wanted it to get us into a P5 conference. It failed in that endeavor. I'll always root for them but my financial commitment will always be aimed at the basketball team. My dream was us elevating ourselves to the point of competing with other top programs not being a stepping stone for young coaches to bigger and better programs. Like you say it's not impossible but it will be very difficult.

Nice post Jack. I agree completely.
