Comparable Comparison To UC

BearcatTalk

Help Support BearcatTalk:

Tom Crean is a good coach and we all know that. He was put into the same situation as MC. Mick has been in a better conference though. Indiana has a slightly better name as far as recruiting but our affiliation with the Big East helps even that out.

Indiana so far:

Road record: 2-23

Record 09-10: 9-20 (3-14)
Record 08-09: 6-25 (1-18)

Record after February 14th: 0-13
Record in March: 0-4

Late season meltdowns:

09/10: 0-11
08/09: 1-20

It is hard to comeback from the ashes of nothing. Indiana was in the NCAA Championship this decade.

I don't like this comparison. Nobody had a major problem at where we were year 2 under Mick. The problem is where we are at in year 4. So take Mick stats after this year, put them to the side, and compare them to IU in two years to see how similiar they are.

You are correct that he hasn't gotten worse, but I was more thinking about how dominant he was in Maui compared to now. I think Mick can work with him to make him tougher and become a great post player like Fortson and Brannen. I like Wilks is an athletic freak who has shown flashes here and there, and I think Dixon needs some confidence because I feel Mick isn't giving it to him.

Two things here. 1) Yancy Gates has one problem that he admits to. He is lazy at times. Prior to the Villanova game he went two straight without a defensive rebound. His lack of progress is due to lack of effort. Justin Jackson being here next season will be great for Yancy because someone will compete with him every single minute in practice. 2) Coach's don't give players confidence. Success does. If you've ever played sports you know this. A coach will help you keep your head up and focused but he cannot give you confidence. Making shots and plays does. Perhaps Dixon needs to spend some extra time working on his shot? I hear that is an issue with this team. They practice hard but few except Lance and Cash, spend extra time crafting their game.

It's a legit argument based on the time frame. You can compare apples to apples for those two years. I promise if Crean looked much better, like some predicted, they'd say this is a legit argument. It doesn't discredit Mick so let's throw it out right?

To bearcatjeff first....he too had one scholly player back and lost Ebanks and Holloway to other schools.

That aside

How is it improvment???????????

If it weren't for Depaul last year we would be in the NIT. CORRECT????

How is it improvment when players are not improving. Stats don't lie
Don't know how you can say stats don't tell the whole story... Its hard to judge Cash, and Thomas cause they haven't played in a year and Lance to me has not improved.

When your only argument becomes Huggylover what not, it makes you look weak.

oh and 18-14 last year and sit at 16-13 this year...Clap Clap tremoundous improvement. I'd love to play on your guys teams

Again, I said we should change. Why are you debating this with me over and over? I have said it since the beginning of the season if we did not make the NCAA we should change. Again, I can call for a coaching change and recognize Mick's tenure rebuilt a destroyed foundation. Why can't you do the same?

Lance is showing improvment. Over the past 3 games he is averaging
14.6 pts 8.6 reb and 3.3 ast. Compared to his season averages of 11, 5 and 2. Stats don't lie.

As far as our record, you can't just go by wins or loses. I assume that you argue that if we play 30 Ohio Valley teams and go 30-0 our season is a success and that we showed great improvment.

Their RPI and SOS from last year to this year shows improvment. Stats don't lie. ;)

When did the season shorten down to 3 games?

Give me one key win on our resume other than vandy and maryland way back when. Uconn rests squarley on the bubble and so does ND.

Last year UC beat a top 10 Georgetown team twice and WV. I would not call this improvement rather inconsistancy.

I'm onto Mick. He keeps losing in March to leave room for improvement the following year. Job security!

18-14
16-13
Stats do not lie :D

You are missing something.

.......KenPom........Sagarin.......RPI
2007..113.............138............197
2008..98...............107............118
2009..85...............71..............84
2010..64...............58..............62

Like you said, stats don't lie. You lose.

Again, stats don't lie. There has been clear progression. Just looking at record does not take into account strength of schedule. Context is important.

And how was Georgetown a top 10 team when they went to the NIT? If that is the case, then UConn is a a top 10 team we have beaten twice this year.

Logic is not your strong suit ready2go.

Quit being a stat geek. Watch the pathetic basketball displayed on the court. You are guilty of impers. a basketball fan.

Yeah! Don't use any objective measures to make logical conclusions! Use only subjective measures rife with emotion!

Oh my bad. Then Mick, while his time here has only WV last year as a big win to hang his hat on. How unlogical of me to think Georgetown was good last year.

Your logic is based on a theory reached by a mad scientist's formula to discover how efficient a team/individual is.

The eye does not lie.

Guilty. Case closed

I think that's just about enough bickering between you two. If you want to continue to debate based on the merits of each other's arguments, be my guest, but in the future please do it without snide remarks like "Logic is not your strong suit" or "Guilty. Case closed."

How is WV last year his only big win? What are you talking about? Last year WVU was a 6 seed in the tournament and we beat them at home. This year Maryland is projected as a 5 seed right now while Vanderbilt is projected as a 3 seed, and we beat both of those teams on a neutral site.

If you remember, this whole argument is based on improvement and CLEARLY those are more impressive wins. And beating Connecticut twice this year is similar to beating Georgetown twice last year.

But like you said, stats don't lie and they have clearly shown improvement. We have just played a more difficult schedule than last year. There has still been clear improvement.

Correct!

First off welcome to the board.

As I have stated for a couple months now, this team has shown they capable of beating good teams. As seen in Maui. Now, by losing to teams such as St. Johns, USF and even Seton Hall and going 0-ffer in March is not improvement rather a trend and inconsistancy.

Also If we played those two teams today, they most likely beat us

I will agree with the trend statement and actually that is one of the two reasons I'm for change. Both tie into one sentiment. Mick has not shown the ability to raise this team to the next level. I think they are more talented and better than last season, but with that comes higher expectations. Not just from the fans but from the team itself. Don't see how anybody can argue the point that when it is crunch time this coach has failed miserably. You also can't argue that this coach has yet to have his team playing it's best ball at the end of a season.

Did I just agree with you?!

Agree!

There, we can have an intelligent conversation.
