Ive obviously been a part of the pro mick crowd on this board. The argument is so watered down at this point that it's become boring. I've decided to stop defending Mick because I dont have to anymore. What he has done speaks for itself. If you cant see it or its not up to your standards then so be it. That's your right to feel that way. However for those of us who do see it we are in good shape. The fact is, Mick is not going anywhere. He has cemented himself as "the guy" in Clifton. He has support from the majority of the fan base, boosters, board, president and AD. Mick is the coach of the Bearcats and that's not changing anytime soon and I, for one, am damn happy about that. So L-T can go back and forth on this board about anomalies and championships not had or CaptDale can rant about not putting in walk ons in February. At the end of the day Mick will still be the coach. 5 consecutive years in the top 25, 4 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, back to back years of being in the top 10, sweet 16, has recruited players that are all over the record books(Vaughn, Cash, SK) that graduate and stay out of trouble, and has done all of that with limited facilities, fractured fan base, from the depths of an NCAA death penalty while enduring 3 different athletic directors, 3 different presidents, and all major funding going to another sport. What he has accomplished is nothing short of miraculous. 90% of NCAA programs wish they could have accomplished those things over the last 5 years. Im ecstatic about where the program is and where it is going. Mostly because of the person who is in charge of it.

Absolutely classic post!! I have forwarded a copy of this to the AD. You definitely need to run our PR department. With attendance declining in a Top 10 season, this program needs this kind of talent to rally the fans back into 5/3.

BTW, at the beginning of your post, you claimed the coach is supported by the majority of fans, boosters and everyone else. Later you said the fanbase is fractured. Which is it? You can't choose both sides of the coin.

You have gotten so boring. It was fractured at the beginning. Has there ever been any doubt about that? With the firing of Huggs, Nancy still president, no team because of no recruiting for a year and a half. Dont think so. Yet through that he has had the success. Majority of fans support Cronin. I know its hard for someone like you to understand but there is a difference between the past and the present. Fractured at beginning not fractured now. Another accomplishment you can add to Mick's tenure as head coach. Nice try in that rebuttal though. Time for you to go back to your exile where its very very dark. We'll be over here at the party where winning is enjoyable.

JB no need going back and forth. There's always an agenda with LT and it may be simply to get people going but he always has an agenda. Like I said, I have NO problem with him not liking or wanting Mick Cronin. That's his perogative, my only issue is his veiled and backhanded attempts to make people believe he "may" one day when his disdain for him being here is obvious. It was obvious on the last board I was on with him and it's obvious now.

Frankly, I could care less if someone likes Mick Cronin. My ONLY issue is their refusal to give the guy any credit for anything good and then bash him when something goes wrong. He has accomplished a lot in his time here and to my knowledge no coach in UC history faced what he did when taking over the program. The program is nationally respected on the court and reputation wise and this year they are far exceeding expectations from fans and media. I had an out of state visitor at work tell me when we were talking college bb, "I really like UC's coach. I watched him following the fight with Xavier and how he handled it and they not only regrouped, they went on a roll! I have watched them 4 times this year, including the UL game, and he really gets the most from his kids. Don't know why he isn't supported better in Cincinnati." I found that very telling about the few who still sit on the outside and criticize.

2 years ago - started buying in....best coaching job since he's been here.

Last year - huge disappointment! picked 4th in league, finished 9th, out early in BE tourney, out in the 1st game of NCAA. He lost me again.

This year - has washed the taste of last year out of my mouth, beginning to buy back in.

I'll buy in fully when he earns it.

He hasn't finished any season with a championship of any kind. He hasn't finsihed any season ranked in a Final AP poll (in spite of being ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 each of the last two years). Outside the last few games, attendance has been disappointing. Sorry, there's nothing to buy into yet for me. Still waiting. Attendance figures support the fact that many others haven't bought in either. When he earns it, he'll get me. Brief mid-season stays in the rankings do very little for me.

I got onto the bearcat bandwagon in 2010 so I find all of the bickering hilariously outdated like "what are these old guys even getting worked up about" I've seen this program do great ever since I've started watching them! What more could you want?

Jeff, the people who still bash the Coach will never change. It isn't about the program it is personal for them. For whatever reason they have a issue with Mick and won't be satisfied until he is gone. It's not about the program. I'll also add responding to them only gives them the audience to keep the argument alive. Real knowledgeable BB fans understand the situation he walked into and the job he has done.

What are your expectations for the program? Cincinnati has made 1 Final Four since the 1960's. Yes, Huggins was very successful in his first few years (2 Elite 8's and a FF) but after that it was early exits. Cincinnati was essentially Gonzaga in the 90's. We have returned to that historical level (consistent NCAA tournaments, occasional run). Not much to be disappointed about...

he already has you. You purchase tickets every year and will continue to do so.

Absolutely Waite. He does have me. I just want more. If I hated him and hated the direction of the program, I'd leave. Believe me, I'd love to upgrade my HDTV and just sit home and watch the games and save a boatload of money. When I get completely frustrated and pissed, I'll end my run of support and do just that. For now, I'm staying....and you'll have to endure my complaining.

oh please, you act as if his on court performance is the reason you dislike Cronin.

NTS, the website above is one of the very best I've ever seen for getting great data on all our past teams. I don't want this to be a Huggs discussion, but if you look at his last 14 years (his 1st two can definitely be looked at as an overachievement making 2 NITs), compare our Preseason AP ranking in every year against where we finished in the Final AP poll. If the 1st two NIT seasons were an over-achievement, then he "over-achieved in 10 of his 16 years. That's a lot better than what many on here give him credit for. He had us ranked in all 14 seasons, and reached the top 10 in 9 of the 14. He finished the season in the top 25 in 11 of the 14 seasons, and in the top 10 in 6 of the 14 seasons. Along the way, he reached the final 4, a couple elite 8s, a sweet 16, and many league and league tournament championships, with all-american players and one wooden award winner, and many "good" NBA players.

You asked me what I want. I don't believe that Mick will get us back to this type of level, but if he gets us in the vicinity, I'll be happy. This season is a great start, and reason to be hopeful that we're on our way back toward that level. Next year might be rough, but after that, my expectation is that we should really start moving in that direction.

You know only one team can win it all every year right? We were in the best basketball conference in the country and you wanted us to win that too? Only "buying in" when Championships are won is called being a bandwagon fan

Lol....bandwagon fan. Yep, been on the bandwagon for 50+ years. I believe you used bandwagon out of context, but compared to other posts on here, yours is forgiveable.

c'mon man, use those 50+ years of great experience and apply some logic to your statements. You think it's coincidence that Huggins won all those championships and finished in the top 25 year after year while in the CUSA an the other lesser conferences? You think it's coincidence that in Mick's first year in the new lesser conference he has reached the top 10 without an abundance of talent? You act as if winning a CUSA title is the same as winning a Big East title.

Let's see: since leaving the CUSA in 2005 and going to the B12 in 2006, then to the Big East, and now back to the B12, Huggins has won exactly ZERO conference championships. Seven years and no conference championships and this year isn't looking any better. But I'm sure you are holding him to the same standard as Cronin when you evaluate them as coaches.

Again, the issue is you don't like Cronin. It isn't his performance, so quit pretending it is.

Should we look at the early Final Four and Elite 8s as outliers since we never saw the sweet sixteen but once in the last 10 years or so? The NCAA Tourney is a crap shoot based on luck and match ups. Would you rather be Butler and reach back to back title games and go back to being irrelevant, or be a consistently good team with the possibility to advance in March every year even if you don't? I would take the latter because at least those seasons will be fun until the end. That is an absolute worst case scenario for UC (and was under Huggs too BTW). If all you do is base success on tourney success, then the law of averages says you will be far more disappointed than not.

your complaining doesn't bother me. Could careless. You have went from website to website expressing your displeasure. You continue to but tickets and donate money to the program. Actually your one of the reasons we can afford a good Coach like Mick. If Your BS bothered me I'd stop reading your post. As was stated earlier by another poster. Mick is here for the long haul. The program is performing at a level I find acceptable. Thank you for your purchase of tickets and donation. That fact you continue to support the program with time and money while complaining about it is laughable. Please refer to definition of insanity.

Last year - huge disappointment! picked 4th in league, finished 9th, out early in BE tourney, out in the 1st game of NCAA. He lost me again.

No question. The staff did a poor job of transitioning post-Gates and Cash's injury just compounded the offensive woes. Sometimes the roster mix just doesn't quite work despite lofty preseason expectations. Just look at Marquette this year and UK last year. The difference being is that I look at this as good coaches having a down year, not a reason to completely lose faith in the coach. Mick more than proved that he can coach the year prior when his team beat the most ranked teams in the country, beat a higher seeded team in the tournament, and matched the total number of appearances in the 2nd week of the tournament since 1997.

L-T, I don't mind your pessimistic view of the program as long as you keep things in context. The board is not as much fun if everyone agrees. Complaining that Mick could only finish 4th or 6th in arguably the deepest, most competitive league in history is just flaming, however.

Guys please don't run off a paying customer. He donates money and buys tickets if he wants to piss and moan while he does it who cares. We need the money. Daddy needs a new facility.
