Come on Jason. Don't play stupid. You know exactly what I mean. Our play on the court was downright ugly. It didn't resemble the previous season in any way, shape, or form. We finished 10th in our league when we were supposed to be 3rd or 4th. We were a preseason top 20 rank and we end up an 11 seed. Don't give me this unrealistic expectation BS. If we went back to the posts on this forum in October/November, I'll bet 99% had the same expectations I had....and the rest of the college basketball world had. We were supposed to be good, and we had a lot of experienced players returning.

You don't want to give the coach any part of the things that went wrong. That's the part that is unfortunate.

I don't put anything in to preseason rankings and I put a lot of the end of year struggles on injuries. If you don't want to, fine, but don't act like the program is taking a step backward. How soon you forget about the years after Huggins was fired.

I haven't forgotten those years at all, and I appreciate the job Mick has done to get us back to respectability, but each year changes the look of the complete body of work. It's no different than the people on here who talked about a decline in Huggs last 5-6 years. We still made the tournament every one of those years and got very high seeds in a number of them, yet still many say there was a decline. 99% of the basketball world would say there was a decline this year. It's really stupid to even argue the point. You blame injuries. I give some of the blame to the coach.

L-T one thing you may want to consider. Preseason perdictions are worthless. Second no one can be expected to advance every year. Making the Dance three years running is giving yorself a chance to win the title 3 years in a row. Not many teams can make that claim. Fact is we weren't as talented as the previous year and considering our best player wa injured only made things more difficult. Team played well at times and lost some very close games. All in all Mick's team made the dance and had a chance to win the title. If he can do that consistently it is a home run for the university.

This year was a Texas Leaguer.....a flair single to right.....and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt. No offense, poor shooting, can't inbounds, poor passing, can't win at home, 10th place league finish, can't make a FT. Our standards have dropped when we label that a home run!

I don't think he labeled the season a home run. And you know that.

his leading the program is a HR not the season. He is capable of elevating this program and he wants to be here long term. Home run with his results.

Bingo

With a veteran group this season, it was dissapointing to see the same things we have seen under Micks tenure here. No offense, players taking steps back, poor free throw shooting. You cant sit there and say these guys were put in a situation to succeed offensively and as a coach how could you watch that garbage game in and game out. Nothing changed ALL season!

They have won games with effort and defense. Which is fine but its now time to implement strategy and game planning. Until I see it, I will have doubts

"All in all Mick's team made the dance and had a chance to win the title. If he can do that consistently it is a home run for the university."

This was his statement. He's not only talking about this year, he's talking about consistently repeating this performance in years to come...and that is a Home Run....so yeah, it applies to this year.

Like it or not...Cronin is probably going to be the coach here for the next 4 years+ unless there is a dramatic change. Personally I think he has earned 2-3 more years. I want to see what he can do with this class because I think it's his best.

The guy has some great plusses and some frustrating minuses...but he's earned an extension IMO. He's a UC lifer, he's not expensive, he's got the kids graduating, he's a great D coach, among others. He's been pretty bad with FT's, offense in general, ball movement, inbounding, and improving the play of his bigs, and installing that fast tempo up and down press and score style he's been talking about. Recruiting has been OK not great.

The great thing is all those can be fixed VERY easily (other than recruiting). Get a better big man coach and either hire an "offensive coordinator" or watch tons of video of plays and coaches with great offensive schemes which are different from your own style. Open up the tempo but still demand few TO's.

I was just posting on another board about attendance at the "Shoe".

To get back to selling out the Shoe...all we need is that one breakout season where we are in the Top 5 or Top 10 conversation most of the year. That or make it to the final 4. Either of those will create a buzz to get bandwagon fans in the arena. Top 25 and Sweet 16 just doesn't get the job done.

All Mick really needs IMO to be a great coach is that one break out season to get the fans in and get the recruits interested. Huggins was no offensive mastermind. He was/is a great coach but he was fortunate enough to understand back then you could get some GREAT players via the JUCO route. It was easy picking because not all programs were looking that direction. After he had success with that...recruiting became a little easier. Today the JUCO route is horrible compared to back then. Many of our best players of all time were JUCO.

If Huggins had to go back and start coaching at UC and the JUCO scene was as different as it is now? We might be writing a different story about his greatness. IDK...just a thought

L-T I judge Mick on his whole body of work. For my money he has hit a HR. you want to look at last season go ahead. Big part of my thought process is we have a guy who truly wants to be here and is growing with the program.

Nice time to be a Cincinnati sports fan. Reds are regular playoff contenders,Bengals just signed James Harrison and are playoff contenders,Cats have made 3 consecutive tourneys and a top 25 recruiting class.they also have hired a high profile coach in Tubberville. Next shoe to drop is the Cats ending up in a nice conference.

I have followed UC since I was 9 in 1973 and this offseason and late recruiting period is one of the most interesting I've seen. The next month could really bring some surprises.

Oh come on man! Why would you say that? Now my expectations will be unreasonably high for the next recruiting class haha
