Disappointed, But I see a Light

I am disappointed in the record, but I see a light in the tunnel.. The team is playing hard, not making turn overs, starting to make free throws and players are starting to get better every game..

We are in every game against teams that have been in the top (10) most of the year..

I may be the only one that feels this way, but I think we are very close to turning the corner.. During the broadcast, I believe, it was said that Jay Wright missed the tournament the first (4) years he was at Villanova. With that as a reference point and considering the condition of the UC program (4) years ago, we are making progress... Just because some of us think UC is one of the elilte programs, we are not.. Do you think we can match Kentucky, North Carolina, UCLA or Syracuse in revenues, fan support or facilities..

We are who we are..

1. I'm sure you probably copy and pasted this from a word document, but your spacing makes this post a complicated read for my tiny brain.

2. Many lose perspective of what other programs have endured in the BigEast before making it into the top 4-5 of the league on a consistent basis.

3. I question Mick too, but we've been playing much better over the last 3 games (Marquette, WVU, Nova). We could have won all three games if we had the ability to close (or Mick would instill a calm demeanor in our players). Either way, we're close.

4. We are who we are.............but I don't want to be someone were not (DePaul, USF, Seton Hall, etc.).

What---Really!

Good post. Welcome.

I agree with you. I see the light but it is still too small and too far away (next year) than I want it to be.

Yes you said it..the light at the end of the tunnel is next year and we have been saying that for 3 years now, BUT I do see it. We lose Vaughn and his leadership but his PPG is around 11. I think Parker and Kilpatrick can make up those points and another year under the belt with Thomas, Gates, Lance and the others.......I do have hope......

Not sure just playing in another season makes Gates better. Stats were close to the same if not worse than last year. Showed the same lack of hustle and bad decision making too. Still does not demand the basketball.

To me Bishop and Dixon have the most upside. Possess things you cannot teach, hustle and athleticism. At time WIlks does too, but he needs directions to the WEIGHT ROOM.

1.) I agree about Gates. I have all but given up on his hustle. The kid simply does not have a motor. I would like to see the training staff hook him up to an IV of redbull/adderall about 2hrs before tipoff. Not only would he be hyper he would be focused! (completely joking of course)

2.) I would substitue Thomas, Cash, and Lance who have the most upside. Thomas continues to impress me each game with his hustle and understanding of what he needs to do to make the team better. Lance and Cash are both young and talented. If we raise both of their bball IQ's from a team perspective and hone their skills a little.....I would really like our team next year. Still might lack the depth we all want but we have a solid core to build around.

Completely agree about Lance

The thing with me for Cash and Thomas is, those guys sat out a year. So it is hard for me to see if they got better or if they were knocking off rust from the start of the season till now. Some may see that as the same thing, but it is hard to put into words.

Not so sure Thomas is going to be what we are all hoping either.

Lace is obviously the guy with the most upside but I still feel Cash is probably the next guy on the list. He has the ablility to light up the rim (35 ppg in high school) and I feel like he is getting better. It's probably rust coming off the wheels (in his case knee) but once the pace of the game and his bball IQ comes along he will develop into a good player.

There is no doubt in my mind in 3 years Cash will be a good BE player.

I like the talent and potential on this team. I like Cash and Parker, Dixon and Davis, Gates, and Thomas. Lance and Bishop. Wilks, I'm not too crazy about because of his low bb iq. With newcomers in Kilpatrick, Jackson and Gaines, I think this team will be deep and talented. Jackson will add some major energy and I think in that way the dynamic of the team will be much different. Bishop has already said once Vaughn is gone that the locker room will be more serious. This team could be potentially very good. I also believe that Mick, if he is here, will lose a scholly player and grab a shooter if possible.

Excuse me? You're saying that one of the soon-to-be seniors will be dismissed, asked to transfer or forced out? Well, it's either Biggie or Wilks. Davis, Bishop and Thomas all see significant playing time.

The only "possible" transfer that would make sense is Dixon.

Biggie. Very simple. This was already thought about in the past.

I would be surprised if Biggie/Wilks did not transfer.

Go to a lower level and do some good things. Biggie to any mid major. Wilks to an average A-10 type school.

Correct. St. Joe's was the possible school.

Would it really make sense for them to transfer now? Starting all over? No friends, no connections, nothing? I just don't know.....

If that is the case, it would alleviate a GIGANTIC burden to pull in a dynamite 2011 recruiting class.

There are still some nice players available in 2010, but I'd settle for a sharpshooter (as some have mentioned, including Dan Hoard) and a nice post player (whether JUCO or HS).

I know a lot of people don't like Wilks, but to me he is one of the few that has shown promise from year to year.

IMO he has been playing the wrong position. Often I see him down low playin with the big boys or setting high ball screens. Why? Hes tall and lanky, not a post player. The times he got to play this year I believe he showed the ability to hit outside jumpers and also the ability to get to the rack. So why not put him on the wing especially against those zones we had trouble with? He is a double threat there. Not to mention could get the fans up off their @#@ with a high flying dunk!

Again this is hard to judge because he didnt see much time and was playing mostly in the paint.
