Fifth Third Arena Renovation

Waite, donations and attendance revenue have been way down for the whole Cronin era and he survived. Mick is a convenience for now. Other priorities are taking the bulk of the attention. His time will come unless he ups his game. Nothing has changed in basketball. The good coaches still win no matter what league they are in. Xavier has figured it out and are kicking Mick's butt. Mick will never figure it out until he can convince some good recruits to come here and play in this awful offense.
L-T have to disagree. Many things have changed. Seems to me the BOT could find a much cheaper convenience then 2.3 mil a year. Plus they had him out the door by his own hand to Vegas and begged him openly to return. In many circles Mick is considered a good coach. I think your in for a long wait.

It's kind of creepy the level of fixation some old guys here have on college sports. Make model airplanes or something! This is getting messed up.

What is creepy about two people exchanging thoughts on a given subject. You may want to consider your own mental state considering you find that creepy.

Also my 12 year old grand daughter finds things creepy. If your a 12 year old girl that uses your parents computer to post I apologize for my above comment.

Now that is messed up!!!

Again, our basketball program by itself is already one of the best all-time. Nobody even disputes that....but you. Add in all the other factors above to go with it and we are firmly there. Then we add in the last factor...Cronin. That is when the argument slants way back in your favor. With him running the show, nobody can even fathom that we're top 15. Nobody will even consider us potential Top 15 based on his results. We've plateaued or even declined since the sweet 16. We're going to build him a new arena to try and pump him up now. When that fails, there will be another excuse. We should play...guess the next excuse.

We're going to have a beautiful arena to go with our amazing facilities, but we'll run a mediocre coach out there and hope the results are different. We've built Varsity Village since Cronin has been here. How did that do boosting recruiting? We pay a top 20 salary to a top 45 coach. That makes a lot of sense!

in all the factors above we're talking about top 50 and 60. a bunch of those don't add up to a top 15 program.

successful history is not predictive of or responsible for continued success into the future.

things change and life goes on. history is littered with people/places/things/entities that couldn't keep up due to no personal faults.

this is akin to you being on detroit's city council and yammering on and on about how great the past used to be and why that means the future should continue to be as great as the past.

sometimes it's just not in the cards. you do the best you can with what you've got.

So Xavier, with zero history, and none of those high university rankings above, and a pathetic campus in a far worse area than ours, playing in a watered down Big East, can recruit stud after stud and kick sand in our face, and spend a whole season in the top 5 or 6, plus other recent elite 8s and sweet 16s, but we should accept mediocrity because it's just not in the cards. LMAO!!! Glad to see you value your education at the university.

...xavier isn't a top 15 program, either.

and lol at the thought of going to uc. i do value my education - that's why i never would have remotely considered going to uc.

Lol....this says it all and explains all your posts. Thanks for clarifying. Now I understand why you want Cronin to stay here.;)

it means my singular focus as far as uc is concerned is athletics.

let's not get it confused, either - i've been sitting in better seats than you and it's not by accident.

There are plenty of things that are debatable regarding UC's vs X's basketball programs, but any notion that the school's are even remotely comparable from an academic standpoint is laughable.

X is fine if you just want a run of the mill undergraduate degree. If you want to do any serious work; medicine, engineering, law, etc. - it's no contest. UC is a top tier research university. X doesn't even begin to compare. Child, please.

LOL, like I said earlier LT, you just can't argue with delusional people.

Lol...I know that's not true. Troll on.

hey l-t, how much you pledging to the arena project before 6/30, homie?

ZERO....dog!

If I felt we needed a new arena, I might contribute. If they ask me to contribute to pay for a new coach, something that would impact the program in a positive way, I'm all in!

You're right. There's no way this new arena helps the program at all. You should tell those higher ups that you rub elbows with daily to cancel the project!

better get used to the idea of watching from the top of the lower bowl because anyone who gives to the project is going to blow past you in priority points.
