Fire Mick

I get that, and I hope mick really evaluates his philosophy on coaching after this loss. But if he harps on "toughness" and defensive lapses he isn't changing, and neither are our prospects. Its not like mick is his 3rd year as coach. Hes had plenty of time to be where he needs to be. He never just owns up to being crap in big games. He passively puts in on the players. Hopefully fickell can overachieve this year.

Yeah, this is where Mike Bohn earns or doesn’t earn his contract as well. Coaches don’t change unless someone higher up than them applies pressure.

Fickell going to need an extra year, but you could get Alabama's recruits and there is just something about Cincinnati sports. Were not big time winners, everyone says to make a run you need luck and players, well we had the players, but the luck we will never have.

Haven't read the comments but I really hope Cronin goes to Louisville cuz God knows we won't fire him. He has underachieved every single year. He was interviewed a few days ago and said he doesn't try as hard as he did when he was rebuilding the program, that enough should get hiim canned. His style of basketball does not win in this tournament and that is more true than ever.

Yes lets fire Mick. We might as well drive a stake through the heart of the program. Lets fire a guy who has won 30 games two straight years, been to the dance 8 years running, is the reigning conference and league champion. What do we got to lose?

But cant we require he evolve as a coach? I don't want him fired for the same reasons as you. (the grass is not always greener) but he has to become better and show humility and admit to himself he needs to morph some of his coaching philosophy, otherwise you lose the fan base, and once that's done, youre toast.

Coach k isn't the same coach he was 20 years ago.
Roy Williams isn't the same coach he was 10 years ago.
If your formula is toughness and defense, and it hasn't consistently won you big games, needs to be tweaked.

This thread is dumb.

Can you close it down? This is just fuel for people to come out and b*tch. Im tired of the "Fire Mick" crowd.

The loss sucked...still does...still stings and all those awful feelings.

Team went 31-5. Won the conference and tourney title. The silver lining is that we had a pretty damn good season and are 61-11 the last two years. Not all is lost.

Lot more went into this loss then coach was inflexible. I have know idea what Mick was instructing his players to do in the huddles. I have know problem with shortening the game with 10 minutes and a 22 point lead. My issue was and is we settled for jump shots. We had them on the ropes and we stopped attacking the basket. Evans was getting to the rim at will and so was Washington. We had a 6 deep roster in foul trouble and started throwing up jump shots. If we ran the clock down and attacked the hoop we would have won this game going away. We didn't need to change the tempo we just needed to be smarter with the shots we took. They were on the ropes and we settled for jump shots. They didn't have to guard us.

Bingo. Like you said, don't know what he was saying but I damn sure wasnt to shoot jump shots.

Everyone forgets the thelivinglegend is a Xavier troll posing as a UC FAN. He’s been at it for a while.

Go back and look at his posts and what was going with our team when he posted.

If you believe that mick should be fired for running a clean program and making 8 straight tournament appearances while switching conferences and not having the resources of the blue bloods would it be fair to say fire Mack? Upset in the tournament in the 2nd round as a 1 and 2 seed. Missed the tournament all together in 13 and squeeked in as the last 4 in in 14.

He continually craps his pants against good competition like Villanova.

I could argue Mick had the better season. Mick had the better 2 KenPom wins. At Wichita St and neutral Houston. Mick had 0 bad losses. Mick won a coach of the year award, a conference regular season and tournament championship. His best player won a conference player of the year award, defensive player of the year award and in my opinion the one I’m most proud of and something Mack and his players will never sniff a sportsmanship award.

All Mack has to fall back on is a win at Butler and an off season where his all American was arrested for possesion.

Fire Mack.

I've had season tickets to uc for 8 years? Would you like to see ticket stubs?

This is very simple. mick promised us an up tempo team, hasn't happened. When things get tough he doesn't trust it.

Micks been great for UC, but he's wound to tight and that rubs off on the players. Players can't play basketball.

Mick needs to adapt. He won't. He refuses.

Zero tournament success is not good enough. Conf titles are nice, but it's irrelevant in the aac.

I get this perspective.... Issue is.

Mick promised tempo/offense. He lied.

His style is not conducive to winning big games. He has his team wound so tight that they can't go play basketball. Basketball/offense is a game of flow/rythm. Impossible to establish playing under Mick. One mistake and your out.

At some point you have got to win in post season. This was the year, all the stars aligned and he provided and all time disaster. He failed.

I dont want to fire Mick but his sideline antics are getting quite old with me.

Yelling and screaming at players the entire game, zero positive reinforcement.

Attitude reflects leadership. You could tell his players were sinking as soon as Mick started sinking. He got rattled and his players became rattled.

What a stupid thread.

Hate to break it to you, but Cincinnati isn’t a blue blood program or a coveted destination. It’s just not. Yes, coaches can be successful here, but any coach that comes here after Cronin would bolt the second they had another offer they liked better.

This is just simply not true.

Cincinnati is a GREAT program and a coach would be honored to come and coach here. You could argue that Cincinnati is a top 10 program all time.

They make the tournament every year, have national championships, have final fours, are ranked in the top 25 EVERY year, and have a history of success and tradition. They also have a brand spanking new arena. Not to mention UC pays their coach very well.

The only thing they are missing is being in a power conference.

Therein lies the rub...

IF we purely measure each season on NCAA tournament success then sure its not desirable and downright frustrating. Sweet 16? Elite 8? Both of those sound nice, but...in my humblest of opinions...Final Four/National Title is the stick in which to measure March. The Sweet 16's and Elite 8's are nice, but just a label.

Bottom line, and it doesn't matter how you slice it, losing (whether early or late) sucks and its definitive. You can't negate an entire season over it, though.

So I agree with you on NCAA tournament success to a point.
