Lol. So your rather a coach who peaks early then chokes for years to come?

That’s cool. They are same guy in my eyes.

I will say this though. If Cronin gets it together and we make a run, stay home. Don’t watch. Don’t get happy. You wanted him gone. So you should enjoy any thing Cronin gives us from here on out.

Dude that is just stupid.

I'll take a ban though if that's what people want. Doesn't matter to me.

Haven't seen a single post reported though. Might want to start there.

You could always put a poll up?

I'm kidding. I wish we had an answer for the lack of success. I get being down and out man, you're probably more invested asa fan than just about any of us. You put a hell of a lot of time into this board and I appreciate it. Stick it out buddy, the board needs you !!! Haha but seriously

Tubby - Never!
Rick “15 seconds” Pitino - Yuck! Great coach, horrible person with a giant ego.

Mick Cronin - Meh.

We are just approaching the one week point from the collapse. I'll get a little less dramatic as we go, but this season end hurt worse than any other for any team I've ever rooted for ever.

All we can do is hope the people in the program are committed to making some changes to how they operate. A hard look in the mirror is needed. Without that, I fear there isn't much hope for better things.

Simply shrugging your shoulders, saying that sucked, and continuing to push forward doing the same things is going to lead to the same results. Coach Cronin needs to seriously look at this tournament stuff. He says we want to win the whole thing. Well that'd be 240 minutes of winning basketball against progressively harder teams. We made it less than 70 minutes vs a 15 and 7 seed. And that was with our best team in 15 years and the best team he has ever had in 12 years. We were less than 30% of the way to winning the whole thing and we completely imploded. That needs to be addressed. Just acting like it was bad luck and doing the same thing next year is not ok with me. And I won't apologize for that.

I hear ya, but this isn't the first time this happend to mick and nothing ever changes. Pipe dreams man

Hard to disagree with this article.

This post compares another coach to Mick Cronin. Stop reading now if that makes you too uncomfortable.

Couple things about John Beilein that I found very interesting.

Michigan's defense has not been good in recent years. They were barely Top 70 one year and barely Top 100 in other years. Beilein himself said that he knows offense. He coaches offense. He's sees things from an offensive lens. So he changed out the entire coaching staff in the last 2 years. They now have 2 1st year Asst Coaches and 1 2nd year Asst. He completely turned over the defense to them. He admits he doesn't know it, and brought guys in to help him.

They are ranked 4th in defense now. And they still have a coach who sees things from an offensive angle. To the point where recently he was asked how Michigan has been so successful in the BIG Tournament and he said when you play teams for a 3rd time, IT BECOMES MUCH EASIER TO SCORE ON THEM. CRAZY. For years and years and years we have been trained to believe the exact opposite. Like, couldn't be more opposite.

This is the kind of growth I think a lot of us are talking about. Cronin keeps the same staff around all the time. No one is offering these guys any kind of medium level head coaching jobs (I still think MAAC teams should be going for Savino). They either don't have offensive answers, or Cronin straight up ignores them. Either way, it's just crazy to see what Beilein has put into practice and how it has paid off for him. He now has the best postseason ATS record of all time. THAT is making adjustments. THAT is not being afraid of change.

Cronin could learn something from this.

Or we can chalk it all up to bad luck or a curse and run it back next year doing the exact same thing. Which looks like the way we are going to go. Oh well. Just thought I'd bring up an example of a winning coach with lots of experience openly admitting that he needs to shake things up in order to reach the next gear. It can work. But Cronin is loyal to a fault.

This post mentions a philosophy that is different than Mick Cronin's. If that's an issue for you, now is the time to stop reading.

There was an interview with Loyola's coach and he was talking about how he told the team he was going to just let them play for the first 10-15 games. And how they naturally played together would form how they proceeded with the parts they had on this years team to create their style. Similar to what Coach K talks about where every single team he coaches is going to be a different style bc of the players he has on that year's team.

I feel like we had the intention of doing this at the beginning of the year. And we have for a couple years now. Slowly but surely though, we morph into the same team we always have, no matter who the players are. We went 1-4 ATS in the postseason this year, with the 1 cover being by 1 point against a 15 seed. That is not living up to expectations. I feel like Coach Cronin views conference play differently than non-conference. And he views postseason as even different than conference. And we go with a tighter approach. The problem is, that always seems to lead to the same kind of offensive woes. Even in the biggest wins. I'm not taking anything away from our biggest wins...bc we won. We did however see our scoring go to 62 @ Wichita, 55 in the title game vs Houston, 68 vs a 15 seed, then only 8 points in the last 11+ minutes against a defense ranked in the 100s in Nevada. That's a recipe for struggling to cover...which again, means not meeting expectations. Would it be possible to hypnotize Coach Cronin and make him think he is coaching an early season game when we are in the 1st or 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament? Bc that could work. I'd take that coach all day over the one in March. Maybe someday they won't be 2 different people. Maybe. Someday.

Bruh you can chalk it up better defensive coaching and it’s true to an extent. But Michigan’s defensive success is hugely attributed to defensive personnel.

Xavier Simpson and Charles Matthews are elite perimeter defenders

Yeah they are really good.

The coach himself credits hiring new assistants and turning the defense over to them though. They went from #69 to #4. That's a huge leap. Matthews is in his first year playing at Michigan too. We have a top defensive coach in the nation and he often talks about first year guys struggling to pick things up on that end.

We had 4 1,000 point scorers and Cumberland. That's good personnel too and yet we finished just barely inside the Top 50 on offense.

This sounds insane and I'm sure I'll be hanged for it...but I think we need to move Savino to associate head coach and bring in an offensive guru assistant. And yes, that would mean moving on from Larry Davis.

I agree, but mick is way to loyal to do that. Weird this is though, I think our team played the most loose offensively they have under Cronin when LD was running things. You could tel, they didn't play scared. Remember coming back from 7 down to Purdue with 39 seconds left ? I don't think a Cronin coached team could do that.

Our program could be elite if Cronin did that though. Everything else is in place.

No, this team could never possibly be elite with Cronin at the helm. The truth hurts. If you watched the NC game just now you'd see a team in Villanova that is every bit as good, if not better, defensively as the Cats, but absolutely lightyears ahead with their offensive acumen and proficiency. And they're coached a heck of a lot better, too. Makes you feel pretty hopeless. This "elite" team couldn't even get past a weak ass Nevada team with no D and a pop-a-shot gimmick offense. But goofballs still talk about the possibility of being Elite! Gimme a break. Our "elite" defense wasn't even that good this year, just played in a very watered down league. Cronin has essentially built a poor man's Pitino-Louisville type team and coaches it like some relic of a GCL team his dad would coach 40 years ago. If you watch all these teams that go far every year they have players with offensive prowess and it just shows with their moves, handle, feel, shooting form etc. We just look like oafish goons compared to these real elite teams. Trevor Moore was supposed to be this dead eye shooter and the purest shooter Cronin's ever recruited. I hate to give a frosh a hard time but that's all you need to know about Cronin's ability right there. His recruiting is abysmal, his in game coaching is too, so is our style of play and the type of player we are able to recruit. What exactly are any of you guys possibly opitimistic about after 12 years of the same charade? The jig is up for me!

I’m not getting rid of any guy responsible for bringing in Gary Clark.

Bruh In a 35 game sample, our defense was much better then Villanova. They were just amazing on the offensive end and contrary to popular belief, offense wins basketball.

Jay wright is the best coach in the country and I’m not sure it’s even close. Measuring anyone against him in the last 5 years and they will come up short.

I mean, cincinnati will never be elite. Never. Not in today’s conference alignment. If we do become elite, it won’t last long as the coach will leave for a bigger better job.

We’ve basically transformed into a football first school in a non power league.

Check the powerhouses in college basketball who aren’t in a power conference:
Gonzaga
Wichita state
Formerly Dayton
Formerly Xavier
VCU

If we add cincinnati to thst list; what would make us not the others ? Football. All the above schools #1 focus is basketball. Basketball is not the main focus at UC.

I’m not getting rid of any guy responsible for bringing in Gary Clark.

I get that.

Gotta be someone though imo. More importantly in this, I'd like to get an asst who has worked in a high level offensive system. Like a Marshall asst or something.

The reason I said Davis was bc he's been here for so long I'm just not sure what's left for him to do here. We have enough old school in Mick too. He and Davis putting their heads together in-game is often Rockfight USA.
