we shoot 37.6% from 3 as a team. that ranks 88th in the country. the 3 is not a low percentage shot in college anymore.

37% would means you miss 63%. This is by definition a low percentage shot. I’m not saying they aren’t important, just don’t base winning or losing off of them

Truth is I probably more then others because of my age understand the difference in college sports brought on by greed. Trying to compete with the p-5 schools is very difficult. The gap gets wider every year. It's the main reason X is able to out recruit us. People will say we did it before but it's not apple and oranges. P-5, sports apparel and other inducements have really made recruiting difficult. I love our program but for different reasons then many others.

I'm sure game management was controlled by Mick but TC was not a physically run it up the floor type player. Very slow a foot.

i agree but there is a step between up and down the court and what we do. there is a medium pace in there that could be our sweet spot. would be nice to at least explore it.

i think we will be closer to that at the end of the year then we are now.

I completely agree. I don’t think we can be in the running every year. I do think we can do better than we have been. I think we could be like a Wichita or Gonzaga. Be able to really compete for a title every 4 years, and be a team that can play with anyone, year in and year out. Honestly we need better player though. As much as I like our last couple classes, you can’t win a title with them as your go to guys. Need to mix in 2 top 100 guys instead of 1

I think our starters are good. Need to keep building and getting better every year if we want to be at the level I am talking about. That was my point. Not saying our players aren’t good.
Our players are good. Need some to be more assertive, would like to see Jacob shoot 12 times minimum a game. Need to move without ball. Throw ball inside and cut to basket. Need a resume builder in the non conference.

Yeah they think they are good to.

And they can be right, but they need to play with effort at all times to be good.

I like this team for the most part. It's clear though that was need at least 3-4 players to step up big time in order to win a big time game. And our options are only 4-5 deep for that. We cannot survive if Cumberland is going to play the way he has. We cannot survive with Washington playing the way he has. And we need more consistent production from Gary and Jacob (though they always seem to be giving effort).

We need to be playing 5 guys 30-35 each in the big games. Our depth is great against bad teams.

Playing your best players more in big games is fine but you must account for fouls as well as poor play. Who shots FT's well. Really tough to make a blanket statement about playing time but I get your point. Shortening the bench can also help develop some cohesiveness that is obviously lacking.

Some context about our last two games. The players played terrible. While some may be game planning or coaching, a bunch of responsibility should fall on the players.

Washington and Cark were both outscored by Kanter.

We were killed on the glass by X and they destroyed us from the 3 point line. We played terrible and still put up 76 points. Does anyone think Mick didn't tell them all week to hit the glass and guard the 3 point line. I'd say the over/under on him stressing each was 100

Against Florida we turned the ball over 21 times. 21 freaking times. We traveled, charged and even turned it over while trying to inbound it once. Still was in the game until officials missed a foul on Evans.

Our shooting from the arc in the last 2 games has been beyond bad. I'm sure Micks offense doesn't require us to miss wide open shots from 3 or 2 foot bunnies. it also doesn't require us to force up shots while being tripled teamed.

I'm not trying to tell anyone that the coach is free of blame. He after all is part of the process but for a team who has this ones abilities to lay to eggs the way they have against X and Florida. Well I hope they are looking in the mirror for answers.

One of my biggest concerns right now is we are using Broome as a SG a lot. It looks like Cronin would rather have Evans or JJ in the game with Cane so we have another option at PG. This will mean Trevor will find it hard to get in the game. It seems like the only scenario where he could see minutes is when Jacob and Cane are on the floor and Cumberland is out which could be rare in big games. Right now it looks like Cronin prefers Jenifer in that scenario over Trevor. That eliminates one of the scoring weapons we can use. I'm not sure I like that development a whole lot. I was hoping Cane could be counted on to play PG. It opens up our options a little more.

21 turnovers. Not sure how many missed bunnies but probably at least 6. Missed open 3's. Kyle and Gary forced some shots.

Reduce TO's by 10...at just 1 PPP (10 points). Make 2 more 3's (6 points). Make half of the missed bunnies (another 6 points). Don't force shots (probably worth another 5 points). If we do these things we win going away. That is 27 points worth of offense right there.

I didn't think Florida looked very good. It was just a perfect storm of poor play all the way around for UC. Hard to blame that on any one player or coach.

Math is hard.

Can't believe we aren't past the low percentage shot discussion, when what matters is obviously the expected point total. You aren't changing that guys mind.

It's almost 2018.

If we make our bunnies and open 3's we aren't even talking. I would never tell Cumberland or Evans not to shoot open 3's. We win this game if we make those shots and that doesn't even start to address the TO's and forced shots we took.

I'll agree with you when Cumberland starts playing well.

It seems from your response you assume/expect he will and I do too. I am not even worried about it really.
He really doesn't have the benefit of surprising the opposition this year. He just at times looks to me to be confused or thinking to much. Last year he showed very good instincts. This year the good teams have scouting reports and it looks like he is having trouble adjusting his game.
