If nothing else, I'm hoping last night showed everyone that any team is capable of losing just about any game. Losses are going to happen...especially to top 20 teams on the road. Un-click the panic button and lets focus on Florida and the rest of this very promising season.

One thing Im grateful for with UC is the way they release every single Media Availability and every post game press conference. Even on away games we get something.

When you look at high Major schools across the country, a lot more than you expect don't do this.

Florida doesn't do it, Uconn Doesn't do it. UK doesn't either, and a bunch of others don't. I always like to hear what an opposing coach says before and after a game with us and a lot of times, their isn't much info or you have to find a 3rd party source for it

Yeah it's a great way to bring the fans into the program. Between the radio show and the media days, there's always a glimpse into what's going on.

Losses happen, I agree but this is supposed to be a special year. If we don’t win these games this year, I’m not sure when we will. It will be disappointing if we lose this game.

We really need this win. Here are the teams in our conference with better wins than us:
WSU: 2
SMU: 2
Temple: 4
Houston: 2
UCF: 3
UConn: 1
Memphis: 2

This was my fear when when I saw our schedule. There is a significant chance we walk away with just 1 top 100 in the non conference. Wyoming is falling fast and could fall out of the top 100.

Most of our conference has far better wins then we do. If we don’t beat Florida or ucla, expect a 6-9 seed no matter what we do in conference and we will deserve it. We played a worse schedule than teams in power 5 leagues and we will pay the consequences for it. I don’t think Xavier, Florida and ucla is enough to make up for the bad teams on our schedule. Playing @xavier moved our SOS up a single spot from 340 to 339. Every one acted like the big name teams would offset the bad teams but that’s just not the case. Our SOS is jarring on a team sheet and it’s been the narrative about us so far.

I was told to relax in the off-season about our scheduling and relaxed not the word I would use about our current situation.

Absolutely need to beat Florida. If we don’t we screwed if we want to make a non Cinderella run in the tourney
Preach brother!
I enjoy your posts!

Oh I'm with you. I was definitely disappointed with the x loss but not "shocked" by any means. Florida is huge and I agree, if not now then when? We'll see...

I would agree this is supposed to be a special year. It will be hard to determine just how special it is until it is over. Eggsavier had a bust of a year going until the dance last year. Then I think they pretty much salvaged it in the end. Uconn did something similar a few years back and ended with the ultimate prize.

I don't like evaluating a season until it's over really. Then we can look back and see what we accomplished. Last year was pretty decent. We had regular season success, beat X, and undefeated at home. No conference title though...and we had a tough draw 2nd round in the dance.

A sweet 16 can cure a lot. An elite 8 can cure even more. A final 4 would wipe away any season woes we could have. I don't care as much about conference titles as I do success in the dance...but most of the fun is in the journey anyway so all would not be lost if we can't get there. I don't evaluate the coach until there are no games left to play.

If we don't make the sweet 16 this season is a bust. Given Cronins track record I'll honestly be surprised if we do. Lesser teams win the second game all of the time yet alot of times we've struggled to even make it close. Our teams just havent been good against good teams yet every year we think we're underrated.

That Uconn team had Kemba Walker. That's the only reason they won. Xavier has a good coach, thats the reason they do well in march. We typically have average players (compared to other tourney players) and have an average coach. That's why we lose.

xavier got a sweetheart draw to the sweet 16 then played an arizona team that had an awful game, but they did win that one so credit to them. but you shouldn't be an 11 seed and play the 46th best team in the 1st round and 26th in the 2nd. that is craziness. draw is so damn important and xavier often times comes in on the extremely lucky side.

UC played a similarly ranked (and coached) FSU is cronins only sweet 16....

Does Mack also get a similarity favorable matchup every time he goes head to head with Mick?

Good luck w the gators.

The matchup excuse is stupid. Xavier wins their 1st round game every year. If you do that, you might get a favorable match up in the 2nd round. You might not. Who cares. That’s not why we don’t win in the tournament. We don’t have good enough players and we can never score well enough to beat good teams. You have to score in March and even if you are a Cronin guy or not you can’t deny he has trouble scoring against good teams.

yes he did, a point i specifically pointed out on this board when we were talking about tournament match ups and how much they have to do with how far you advance.

since 2011 when uc started making the tournament again here is the breakdown.

UC average seed 7 xu average seed 7 (goes up to 8 if you count the play in loss, but since they lost the play in, they didn't get in).

UC has made the 2nd round or better 4 times. xavier has made the 2nd round or better 4 times.

in the 2nd round UC played the 10, 24, 1, and 16th ranked kenpom teams. average of 13th best team.

in the 2nd round xu has played 79, 68, 38, 26. average of 53rd best team.

this is why people say tournament runs require luck and match ups. its just the truth.

by far xaviers best team, the team 2 years ago, the 2 seed, went out in the 2nd round. that was the best season in xu history, but because of the tournament, its was a failure.

you should probably go look at what i just posted then.

and all of this is why people like me and hub have been freaking out about this 4 game stretch. we have to win the next 3 because we dont want to have to face a top 10 team in the 2nd round again if we make it there. we gotta get out of this average of 7 seed crap. only way to do it is to win the big OOC games.

why? I’ve heard this argument a thousand times on this board. There are good teams in the tournament. You get good draws and bad draws. You can’t control it. It’s just an excuse. The only teams that were a bad draws in my opinion were the kemba team and the uk team. All the other teams were beatable if we had a better team. We have only beat a higher seed once.

because if you're going to say things like mack is such a great coach cause he always gets by the first round, you'll have to explain how him and mick have both made the 2nd round 4 times since 2011.

there are plenty of things you can say that would work, you dont have to make things up.

We got it the first 100 times hub posted about the 300+ teams. We all get it. The schedule is annoying and honestly boring except these 4 games. I agree, you have to win the ones you have. Hopefully we win the rest

I didn’t say anything about Mack. people that use the match up excuse are probably the same people saying we shouldn’t play the shootout because we get killed most years. Makes us sound lame. We haven’t been good enough. That’s ok to admit

Why does an XU fan come on to our blog. I don't get how she would have nothing better to do with her life? Xavier is a high school. So yes, we lost to a high school. I could careless talking about them or their tournament runs. Lets beat Florida.
