Mick said he believeS Jermaine Lawrence will be the best player on the team next year. "It isn't a matter of if, but when" is what he said after the game. He said he playing out of position having to back Jackson at the 5 spot...

Wow that is a big statement. He definitely expects big things from him.

Part of Coaches job is to instill confidence in a player. This is calculated toward March and next season. Mick knows to make a tourny run they will need someone to step up off the bench.

Yep. He basically said that while it may look like Lawrence has been unproductive, these minutes are key for next year to give him confidence. Also that he won't have to play the 5 spot next year giving him more chances to find where he can get his points.

Lawrence needs to take notes from JJ. Gain muscle. Bang with the big boys. Play fearless. Learn to play with your back to the basket. Good things will come.

I looked for the "like" button but since it wasn't there I just post it...

I'm not sure I can say enough about what JJ and SK mean/have meant to this team. What another great performance by SK...he's just KILLING it lately. I mean how many players in the COUNTRY have done more with the game on the line toward the end than SK has this ENTIRE season?

We need JJ on the floor BIG TIME!! He is playing so confident right now and it's SO MUCH fun to watch. No doubt at least 2 top 10 ESPN plays tonight and should be 4 if I thought they were willing to give him that many. His insticts are off the charts...I think this is what you call "feeling it" or "in the zone". Watching him roam the court sniffing for blood on D is addicting.

I haven't had this much fun watching a couple of guys play in 10+ years. I don't want to leave out the other players but FOR TONIGHT these two deserve it

I have heard about the law of averages about close games...if you get in too many of them it's going to average out with wins and losses. I am calling straight up BS...because there are teams, coaches and players who buck the trend and this has been happening all year. We haven't lost a close one. Not saying we won't or can't...but clearly we have a nice formula working.

Statistically winning close games doesn't indicate future success in close games but something about SK with the ball when the game is in doubt is calming...

I am also getting tired of hearing that it would be nice just to have one player who can manufacture their own shot any time they want and POTENTIALLY win the game ala (insert big time player name here). I am tired of hearing SK doesn't play well in big games. EVERY SINGLE CLOSE GAME is a big game.

Has anyone watched SK in the last 3-5 minutes of close games this year? Holy mackerel!! He's nailed almost every FT that counts. He's put the team scoring right on his back. He's driven the lane, he's drawn fouls, he's hit clutch threes, and made clutch passes. He's flat out gotten the job done in clutch situations...period!!!

Tip of my cap SK...you deserve it.

No doubt. He's played to the point (and gotten the recognition nationally) where I would actually be surprised if he doesn't become our first All American in some capacity since Steve Logan.

Some teams are on the far ends of the bell curve every year...and many times there is a good reason for that and I'm not talking about luck.

Here is my main problem with the close game (win loss) averaging out argument. When you average out all NCAA teams there is going to be a bell curve every year. Pointing to the statistical average at the top of the bell is like calling a basketball a basketball. You can't point to the law of averages for every team because not every team is average...some are well beyond and some fall way short...in ANY category you pick.

It would be like pointing to the law of averages for all golfers winning majors and saying Jack Nicklaus got lucky with 18. Jack was not your average golfer.

If you get in enough close games the average team is going to win and lose 50%. This is NOT true about ALL teams on the outside of the bell curve...the 10th or 90th percentile. It would be an anomaly for an average team to fall into the 10th or 90th percentile...but the odds are that those in the 10th and 90th percentile are there BECAUSE they are not average.

He has certainly stepped up big time this season and JJ has too.

SK was phenomenal yet again. One of my all-time favorite Bearcats.

One thing I noticed that will be key to the success in March was how aggressive Shaq was in the first half tonight. Not so much in the 2nd for some reason, but in the 1st he really looked confident offensively and looked to score. As his confidence grows, he'll continue to attack the basketball and put up double digits. Really no reason he doesn't average 10-12 points. He is so gifted athletically. Looks like he is continuing to put it together and will be a nice 3rd scoring option.

Let's also give credit to Guyn with 2 big threes down the stretch!

Yah thanks. I was on my JJ and SK soap box for some reason:)

GG NAILED two clutch 3's. Thanks GG. ST can honestly do whatever he wants on the court. That baseline move was absolutely SICK! Not just the pivot but the high contolled floater off the glass. Possibly the most beautiful move of the day.

SK and JJ said they have been on him in practice to be aggressive and Mick said he's such a nice kid. He could be the difference for this team in March if he will take it to heart. With his height, length and athleticism, along with his ball skills, he will have stretches where he is unstoppable.

Yah...interesting in post game comments both JJ and SK (as well as Cronin) mentioned ST...and they both mentioned he was 6'9. I did not know that...he must have grown a couple inches.

JJ said ST (if he puts his mind to it) can do anything he wants and nobody can stop him...not even me.

Cronin also had some ST comments about hoping he will bring it.

Sounds like Cronin, SK, and JJ are on the same page. We need ST to be aggressive if we are going to make a run.

Here is a stat that stands out to me...

SK had 2 more assists than our whole team had TO's.

And a couple more...

JJ (after 6 TO's at SMU) went for a line of 7-0 in terms of blocks/steals/assists to TO's. SK went 7-1 on that same line. I guess I should mention TR went 4-0 since I called them out this week for their turnovers lately:)

SK had 0 fouls on what I consider pretty damn good D.

He's undersung in terms of his defense IMO

His body control on layups should be introduced as a new class for UC students
