I'm guessing this is why we didn't see Jermaine in the 2nd half.

@bkoch
#bearcats Mick Cronin says that Jermaine Lawrence is doubtful for the Houston game due to a toe injury he sustained at Memphis. @ENQSports

It was said that he had turf toe and it was confirmed that this is why JL didn't play in the second half.

So look for them to go small with sanders to play the 4 when rubles and Jackson take a break, I find it hard to believe that narsyuk will get more than 5 mins.

Why do I keep hearing this about UConn?? It's not even close to being true. 5-star recruit, DeAndre Daniels, is actually the second leading scorer on the team and he's attempted just as many shots as Boatright.

Napier - 16 PPG
Daniels - 12.9 PPG
Boatright - 12.8 PPG

Along with Giffey, Calhoun, and Kromah they have a solid 6-man rotation, but not much bench production beyond that.

DeAndre Daniels is a junior. What difference does his recruiting rank at this point make? He's a filter fish hanging on the shark that is the backcourt. He's not dominant or imposing. Against SMU he was a turnover machine. Giffey is averaging around 6 points in his last 5 games and Kromah is an undersized garbage man who flakes against taller more athletic opponents. Olander might as well not exist, same with Calhoun.

I'm sorry, but it's just Napier and Boatright if we're being honest with ourselves.

UConn is basically last years Cincinnati team. They are slight better offensively, but worse defensively.

It is hard to win when you cannot get any production from your front line.

Just pointing out that Daniels is not only one of their best players, he's also one of their most talented. If he was just some filter fish, as you put it, then his shot attempts wouldn't be anywhere close to Napier and Boatright. I wish he was just another guy because he took it to us last year - 17.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, and 3.5 bpg.

Daniels is a good player. Someone said UConn reminds them of UC's team last year and it does me too in some ways. Most notably the tendancy to play up and down to their competition. Also, People underestimate coaching in college basketball. In my opinion Mick Cronin is right there with Pitino and Brown as far as game planning goes. Mick does a very good job putting a game plan in place to take things away from an opponent. You don't always see that when you watch other teams play.

MC also gets more out of his taent then many coaches. jeff that is what absolutely frustrates me to know end about others who can't see what a good coach we have. As his national rep grows he will beable to compete in the living rooms with the bigtime coaches. Then the country better watch out because we ain't getting out coached.

I agree about Mick's coaching and I think it needs to be extended to the entire staff. They do a great job in game of making adjustments, especially defensively. I watch some other teams (St. John's, Memphis, Providence) and wonder what in the hell they are doing.

Some people want to kill Cronin for working under Pitino. It is what it is as far as I am concerned. The benefit to this is what we are seeing right now though with this team. Cronin has taken what he has learned from Huggs on the defensive side and combined that with what he learned about the press from Pitino. What you have, is a team that wears down opponents with the press yet still plays lock down defense in the half court. It is really amazing how few times they get beat in the press for an easy lay up or dunk.

a big reason for that is because we have one of the most underated defenders in the country. JJ's defense is game changing. Even if he didn't score 3 points a game he is valuable. Heck he has made a believer out of me and I didn't want him starting at beginning of the year. now i don't know where we would be without him

It about winning and generating revenue WH2. A head coach today has to build a brand. He has to make a buzz by winning on the court and winning league titles and tournament titles. I understand this mindset from a fanbase and leagues. Mick has to win titles and put butts in the seats. I think that's exactly why he liked this league move. He sees it as an opportunity.

When you have an eraser on the back end, it really allows the guards and wings to be aggressive defensively and take chances leading to steals. Think of the best defensive teams we have had in the last 20 years. Kenyon, Hicks, Maxiell, and Little all intimidated players at the rim. JJ is going to end up in that category defensively if he keeps this up.

UConn is a quality team to say that they are not is Ludacris. They have one of; if not the best back court in the country. If they are in a close game there is a good chance they are going to win because Napier is a stud and he is mr. big shot in the UConn area. I don't care what anyone says UConn is a top 4 team in this conference.

Don't disagree with any of what you said. My statement of "what I've seen to this point stands". UConn has talent but to this point I'm picking them 5th and the team that just beat them (SMU) 4th.

Cronin is a great coach, I truly think he is taking this program to next the level. Also mdchick I agree uconn is a very good team and Napier is a stud, but smu is solid as well. With that said I believe the aac gets a minimum of 5 teams in the tourny, could get six if someone turns things around but I think we got 5 garentees.

I wouldn't say 5 guarantees. I am pretty confident that Louisville, Cincinnati and Memphis will make the tournament.

UConn can afford a 10-8 conference record because they have OOC wins over Florida, Indiana, Maryland and they play Harvard this week.

SMU is going to need to beat 2/3 of Cincinnati, Louisville and Memphis as well as drop no bad losses. They probably will need 12 league wins to get in.

I say we get 4 in, with one of UConn/SMU knocking the other out. Remember if they finish 4th and 5th, they will play each other in the conference tournament. That could decide an NCAA bid...

Excellent point. Winning in the AAc could very well generate some buzz that is missing from MC's resume when recruiting. I also think eventually we will wnd up in a bette conference. So if we can dominate in the small pond it can only help as we move to the bigger waters. Pretty much the same path Huggs took.

That's true they would play each other, but I still believe they each can do enough to get in. I believe uconn would win that one in the tourney, and will win when they play again at uconn, but I think smu will have enough to get in at like a 12 seed maybe even a bit lower. None the less this conference is a pretty good league, I was expecting more from temple but they will be back next year
