I was very pleased to see Shaq and Sanders playing together. I think it helps us on offense (an extra shooter, spreading the floor) enough to make up for what we lose on defense.

As much as many of us (myself included) have brought up Sanders' apparent lack of athleticism, I think we have underrated how strong he is. 6'5" is awfully short for a power forward, but he seems to keep a low center-of-gravity on defense and has a knack for rebounding. I think he is smart enough to make up for his disadvantages on defense with positioning. Playing him at the 4 against average and smaller teams makes a lot of sense.

When they go small Sanders is the one playing the four...

He is starting to remind me a little bit of Parker. He's playing tough, even though he definitely isn't the most skilled guy on the court. I'm glad Mick has a knack for finding guys like this, every team needs a tough, gritty player. His effort has been off the charts this season, I hope it continues.

You are just one of those people that doesn't understand that scoring isn't the most important stat in basketball. JJ affects the game in every single aspect of the game, and over the past 5 games is clearly are most important player, no contest

To be fair, he did point out stats other than just points as well as noted that SK gets doubled which frees up other players (e.g. Sanders who can't get a shot off unless he is wide open).

"Most important" is difficult to judge how good a player is. I'd probably agree that JJ is the most important but that is due to the lack of front court depth, not necessarily due to the play of JJ and SK. And while the backcourt has pretty good depth I would hate to see where this team would be without SK. He does so much more than score. He is in a shooting funk right now but hopefully he'll snap out of it and JJ can continue his solid play. I'm not sure UC has had a game yet that both have played particularly well.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing about JJ, but to say scoring isn't the most important stat in basketball is awfully silly. You win games by scoring more points than your opponents. They don't hand out victories for rebounding margin or assist-to-turnover ratio. Those things are very important as well though.

Mick is not intimidated by any coach. He has beat Pitino, Boeheim, Calhoun, Wright, JT3, Brey, Dixon, Huggins, all more than once.

All coaches have bad losses, that is the nature of the game.

100% correct. I would take Mick over any of those coaches any day of the week

A moron? Is the the best you can do, Buck? Really? A self prescribed intellectual using such primitive words? MY in crowd is filled with men and women far more capable than you are in a cognitive manner. Many of those people feel as L.T does and their reasons for disliking Cronin are as just as your's are for worshiping him. I dislike the man tremendously but still support U.C athletics. However, due to him, I am not as motivated to do so as in the past. Many share my views and this does not make us "moronic". In fact, your constant attacks on another's intellect questions your levels. And I have no idea why some seem to have this fantasy that I post on forums all over the city. To my knowledge, there are quite a few women in Ohio named Julie and many of them are surely married. My wife made the mistake of posting on here and was ran out of town for voicing an opinion and asking a question. She was naive to think she would find a dignified response. Seems things never change.

I'm sure your 'in crowd' is filled with cognitive giants. Then why can't one of these mensa members generate a website for you and the large contingent who thinks like you so you can continually denigrate the program and Cronin. You would then be among the majority and wouldn't have to argue against those in the 'Cronin fan club.' Seems like a simple process for someone in your intellectual posse. I will await your brilliant response.

As far as Cronin going to Louisville, I will try and make one last attempt to explain this to those who still can't figure it out. He went to work for Rick Pitino, who has a history of placing assistants in head coaching jobs. Pitino just so happened to be coaching at Louisville, but if he had been coaching at Cincinnati State, he would have gone there. ANY smart assistant would have taken that opportunity. Most of us are smart enough to realize that a decision to better your life supersede sports rivalries. If a much better job opens up at OSU or Louisville, and we can better our families or our future, we take it. If the ONLY reason that we didn't was because this school is a sports rival, then we would should be called a moron. The job with a HOF coach such as Pitino was just that. Cronin himself has explained why he did this in a video that Waite was kind enough to post. Maybe you can take this explanation or the video to the cognitive giants you hang out with and they can explain this to you.

You have such a way with making friends. I dislike Cronin for a variety of reasons, not just his jump to Louisville. And I was pointing out that your assertion, that anyone who dislikes Cronin for leaving our program to go to a hated rival is a moron, is over the top and arrogant. Take it for what it is. You have no problem with it. Many do. And I would love to see that video you mentioned.

Will you just do all of us a favor and stop posting?

Im the one who posted the video. Mick talks in depth about why he left to work for coach Pitino. To not like him for that reason is not only petty but lacks perspective and intelligence. Here is your video.....

We have a game against a top 25 team at noon tomorrow and this is what we're discussing?

I recommend making another section on the forum where Amerbly, anbuc and L-T are allowed to post. Everywhere else should be left to Bearcat fans that are not stuck circa 2006.

To get us back on topic, I think Memphis will give us a great opportunity to measure the progress of this team. If we play well and lose a close game, I would say that we have come a long way since NM and XU. I hope we come out and force lots of turnovers early, gotta get the crowd out of it. I'm sure we will have a dry spell or two, but hopefully we get a few of the other guys besides JJ and SK to step up and help out with scoring. Making free throws, rebounding, not over-helping in the post, JJ staying out of foul trouble, and forcing turnovers will be the major keys to this game for us. I hope we can pull this one out, but I'm not counting on it.

Thank you Jack for again posting this video. I apologize for not crediting you with the video, as it is an excellent watch. And i agree with you that anyone disliking him for leaving to work for Pitino is petty and lacks intelligence. What's another word for someone who lacks intelligence? A moron.

Hahaha. Speaking of Bearcat fans stuck circa 2006, remind us who is on you avatar, again. Most of us left Huggins behind LOOONG time ago.

Since my name keeps getting thrown out there, I guess I might as well respond. First and foremost, I'm a Bearcat fan, and have been for a lot longer than 99% of the people on this forum. I don't have to like the coach to like the Bearcats. I support the university and I support the student athletes with my money, my attendance, and any other way that I can....and in doing so, I am also supporting the head coach. I watched the video, and it was very good. In the video, Mick Cronin talked about Rick Pitino questioning everything he did every single day and how he was continually telling him that this and that was not good enough. He also admitted that he runs his own program in the same way. There's no such thing as being loyal. Everyone is accountable and if they aren't performing, they get replaced. He also said he has to answer to the fans and meet their expectations. Based on his own personal philosophy, which he communicated very eloquently in the video, I highly doubt that some fans questioning his performance is that unsettling to him. It sounds as though he is very driven to succeed and is working his tail off to win back any and all fans that doubt him. And for that, I respect him a lot!

This is a site for Bearcat fans. It's called "Bearcattalk". Every fan site in the world has people questioning and being upset with the coach, as well as others promoting and loving the coach. I "respect" the passionate fans on here who love coach Cronin and who will argue and debate why they love him. The bottom line is I know they love the program and are great fans, no matter whether they disagree with me on the coach or not. If the title of this site was "The Mick Cronin Fan Club", then anbuc88's suggestion that anti-Mick Cronin people establish their own website to bash him, would be valid. But, since this is "Bearcattalk", then a discussion of the pros and cons of the head coach of the Bearcats is fair game and would be considered a normal topic in a forum like this.

What destroys these sites, are not fans who debate the pros and cons of the coach, but who take the forum into the gutter with immature name calling and personal attacks toward fellow fans. Anbuc88 and some of his cronies consistently did that on bearcatnews and ruined that site to the point that today each thread on that site gets about 5 to 20 replies max. It's a dead site. He was doing the same thing on this site early this year and was finally banned in March, then showed back up a few weeks ago spewing his wrath and personal attacks once again, and as you can see, this site is now getting caught up once again in the same negativity, bickering, and personal attacks that destroyed Bearcatnews and was beginning to destroy this site back in March.

As for me, I try hard to debate my points based on as many facts as I can. I really try to do it in a respectful way to the others that post on here. After all, we are all great fans and want the same thing for the program......a program that wins, wins as many championship as possible, and has good student athletes that graduate and represent this great university in a classy way. I'm certainly confident that anbuc88 will spend the whole weekend now searching 14 years of my posts to find examples where I disrespected a fellow fan and we'll get another mini-novel written about me. I'm sure I've gotten caught up in the negativity a few times. Again, when someone decides to take the forum off the topic by calling someone an idiot or a moron, that is when the emotions get flowing and everyone gets caught up in the negativity. If I have ever disrespected any of you, I sincerely apologize.

My final comment is to Bearcat NTS. As I told you the other day, it's pretty hypocritical for someone who is trashing our new football coach after just one season, to be attacking someone who is questioning a basketball coach after 8 years. TT did an amazing job under a lot of adversity this season, and was a great hire for this program! You're certainly entitled to your opinion, as I am on Coach Cronin, but if we are all banished to a special section, then you should probably join us.

I'll close this by stating that I hope the Cats, and coach Cronin, defeat Memphis on Saturday. I kind of expect a loss, but hoping we find a way to win. As little as a 1-point victory will make me very happy!

You can call me a moron all you want, you little prick. But at the end of the day, I know where I stand and you "are" still nothing but a little prick. To the rest, I have said more than once that there are many reasons that I do not care for Cronin but he is the coach at U.C. And I support U.C basketball, not Cronin. As he said a long time ago, "you do not have to like me and still support the program". That I will go along with. Now you can ban me for calling anbuc what he is. I could care less.
