Nts and a couple of others are the reason why I go to this site, but it's gone down hill since BearcatJeff left.

I don't know why this thread was hijacked into a discussion of Jacob and past mods, but this site is light years better today. Personal attacks are actually starting to be punished instead of condoned. Different opinions are welcomed, thus the site is far more interesting. There was a day when if you went against the grain you were personally attacked, and eventually banned. Jacob has done outstanding and the site has a lot of activity and a lot of opinions. That's why it works. I hope it never goes back to the "our way or the highway" days. If you want that go to Bearcatnews, who traveled down that highway first. Today they're lucky to get 5-10 replys to each thread.

Oh, by rthe way, I hope we are able to handle Houston on our home court. Today's effort does not inspire much confidense, no matter how happy Mick was with it. I just hope we win by 1.

Rob Gray Jr is a JUCO who redshirted which is why he still has 3 years of eligibility.

Houston's loss to Grand Canyon was in Vegas.

Hard to get a read on how good they really are because they played the 350th toughest non conference schedule (there are only 351 DI teams).

Looks like good offense team, awful defensively.

Tons of transfers including Johnson from Purdue, Dotson from Oregon, Pollard from Alabama and a bunch of JUCOs.

Seems like a poor mans Iowa State.

oops didn't realize the GC game was not at home. Still I would call that there worst loss so far.

But yea there schedule was really weak. The best team they have played so far is...... LSU # 54 kenpom)

I have no doubt that Jacob bleeds red and black, and he tells us how he feels, not what we may want him to say. I appreciate his mood swings. It comes from a good place and he only wants what's best for our program, like me. The site needs more like him, not less.

Regarding today's performance, I was totally expecting it. We don't play well historically at USF and in my opinion, not sure if there is any stats about this, we don't play way in early afternoon games. I was expecting the game to be close, but not that close. Closing out games for us is an issue and will continue until we start having effective possessions down the stretch.

As for Houston, I think we will be fine. They haven't really played anyone, and we are at home. I think we'll be -6.5 and will win by double digits as we actually close a game out and TC or Evans make FTs late.

Unfortunately, with the semester starting back up, I won't be able to attend due to a class at night. Final year upper level classes being only offered at night make me beyond pissed during basketball season. Oh well, WatchESPN will have to do. Get there and be loud! We'll need it.

They beat LSU (#54 KenPom) at home and lost to Rhode Island (#61 KenPom) on the road. The loss on a neutral floor to Grand Canyon (#103 KenPom) isn't that disgraceful. The top part of their schedule wasn't great but not so dreadful.

Houston's biggest problem is the buy games they scheduled were really, really bad. They played Eastern Illinois (#292), NC Central (#310), Nicholls State (#337), Prairie View A&M (#347 KP), UT-Rio Grand Valley (#348), Florida A&M (#350). It is arguably the WORST OOC schedule I've ever seen of any potential at large candidate. They literally scheduled 3 of the worst 5 teams in Division I.

I never said it was disgraceful. Just said it was there worst loss.

Also I'd say that, while they did schedule a terrible OOC, this Houston team is much much better than the one we played last year. I remember Jon Rothstein speaking on them and saying they could be the most improved team in the conference. I think we win. But I hope UC doesn't come out flat

So, why did Jeff leave? And personally, I like the new format where people are free to voice their opinions without worrying about a ban. Fans can call things as they see them.

Amen to all the above!

I'm concerned about this game because of what I saw yesterday. If the Tulsa team shows up, it will be an easy win. Anything else could get hairy.

The big question of every game...Will Cronin let the players play? Or will he try to control every bounce of the ball?

@JonRothstein
Cincinnati survives at South Florida to improve to 12-5 overall. Bearcats will have to be much sharper on Wednesday when they host Houston.

Waterhead made a good point, if they had hit some shots yesterday, maybe they wouldn't have looked like the "make your eyeballs bleed" offense. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between what it is that's making our eyeballs bleed. Is it the pathetic system/style, or the pathetic talent? If we make some shots occasionally, maybe the style wouldn't look so bad.

We've seen for years that hoping to hit shots in a low possession game doesn't take us very far. And it actually leads to us losing, or almost losing to some of the lowest level teams in a mid-major conference.

I just hope Cobb isn't gun shy against Houston.

I saw a few times against USF where he was wide open or at least open enough to take a shot and instead either passed or dribbled. It was like, he knew in warm ups that he wasn't gonna hit a bunch of shots and decided to just not take any.

The more we go back to the rock fights, the more important Cobb's jumpshooting becomes. But he only got 23 minutes yesterday for some reason. He's the kind of guy who can shoot himself out of a slump in-game. I don't think we have anyone else like that. But taking 5 shots in 23 minutes isn't enough run for the leading scorer on the team.
