I have been following this board for awhile but never posted and I have noticed that a majority of the posters like to jump on anyone that picks against the Bearcats. I understand this is a UC sports forum but is there anyone here that doesn't have their red and black glasses on? We could be playing Alabama or Ohio State and someone could pick against us and people would tell them their pick is dumb or they aren't real fans. I understand that fan is short fanatic but a lot of posters have unrealistic expectations and attack posters that are making their OWN predictions each week. I have picked against the bearcats multiple times over the years and still managed to win my Prediction Pool. Hell, this sunday I am putting steelers players in my lineup on fanduel against our hometown Bengals. Doesn't mean I am not a Bengals fan. Just means I will make the picks that are most likely to work out in my favor.
My problem is when one assumes that UC doesn't stand a chance in certain games. For basketball purposes. They lost (I believe) 3 times in the last 2 years by double digits (a Houston team that we beat, a Xavier team that we lost to by 2 the year before, and a final 4 UK team) so it blows my mind to just chuck up a loss for the Cats. I mean I get it, you can pick who you think is going to win or lose but I guess my problem comes from people when they say we have no chance when clearly we do in certain games.
UC lost to Houston by 3 points last year, we are home Thursday night and the place is going to be rocking. Someone can say I think we will lose but the people that say we have no shot I cant agree with. If we were playing Alabama OSU or Mich I'd agree, we have no shot. Basketball wise. Duke this year I could agree we probably have no shot. I just cant assume or pick we are going to lose when I truly believe our programs in both sports, basketball and football have been so competitive. Not meaning they have always won, but the ability to compete and not get rolled over. (more so in basketball).
I jumped on someone yesterday because I didn't like their prediction in basketball. It was stupid of me, but the losses that were assumed showed us losing every game that we would all consider a "big game." Not only would that be depressing if it happens, to me in doesn't seem realistic. One is entitled to their opinion, but we have not had a year yet like that. Why would one assume on a year that we have a starting 5 the way we do to be the year we lose every "big game" For a fan to think that pessimistic with no proof to back it up blows my mind.
I don't know which way this UC Houston game will go. No one does. We could get blown out of course, anything can happen. All I know is I am very excited for this game, and don't know if I ever have been this excited for a UC football game. Go Bearcats.
