Lance thinks this is a formality as announcing the interview and either side not getting what they want would put eggs on the face of ND or BK as well.
I don't disagree, and I think we seriously need to start thinking about who our next coach might be.

I'm not calling it a done deal, as either side could clearly walk away, or BK could have a change of heart.....but my money would be on him leaving.

I do not think it is premature to talk about who our next coach will be. Especially when Kelly said that he wasn't sure if he was coaching in the bowl game or not. Frankly when I saw that, my heart sunk and I was pretty sure it was over. He's been preparing us for several weeks folks, and it's time we get the message. BTW-Thomas is already looking for a coach, otherwise he should be fired.

I would think that Jeff Quinn, being the OC would have to step up as interim HC, as you would want him to call the shots on offense, and not be overruled in game (IMO).
I would not consider Coombs, so Elston would be the only other logical choice.

In no particular order...

Kevin Sumlin
Jagz (ex coach of BC)
Charlie Strong
SKip Holtz
Butch Jones
Phil Fulmer

Or possibly one of the current assts...although I would hope that UC would go after someone with HC experience and a resume filled with success. This isn't your Bearcats of the 90's where you got free football tix when you bought season tix for hoops.

I like Tommy, he'd be a good fit...plus he has recruited in the south, which is a must for Cincy to continue to build quality depth.

Yep. Maybe Coombs stays behind in Cincy w/ the new coach. Depends how much he likes living here I guess.

If I had to guess, and since I will.....here's what will happen:

Thur nites banquet, BK announces to players he is next ND coach.
Friday nite there is an official announcement.

There was no interview today because there was apparently zero need for one. Thomas better get a move on quickly.

Butch Jones, Kevin Sumlin, and Skip Holtz are all being talked about for the next HC. Although the last two are also in the mix for the same position at Kansas. Butch Jones and Sumlin would be great hires IMO. I like Skip, but I would like to see more success at ECU before I would want him at UC.

Oh man, Sumlin is awsome. I loved BK, but I actually may prefer Sumlin to him. I hope he gets hired, and if he does I hope he doesn't use us as a stepping stone like BK did.

I want our D to continue to play at a high level. If the HC is more offensively minded, then the DC is going to be crucial. With good players, an offense is going to be decent, but with bad defensive coaching, things can go bad with a DC who doesn't have everyone on the same page.

I just read that Sumlin declines to interview w/ UC. I guess that means we can cross him off the list.

(unless he meant what Kelly said, and has already interviewed) :)

Cross Skip Holtz off the list as well...that's the 2nd one on my list who is now gone.

Butch Jones is a possibility, but he still has been shown interest from Marshall and Kansas, so we'll have to wait on that.

Woah...things happen fast. According to Yahoo: Turner Gill may be their next coach. Jones would do well to come to UC, and I think we'll have a good shot at him coming here.

Holtz could very well be back on the list. In fact, he may be up there with Butch Jones. Also, don't think that Quinn won't get a serious look, as it bridges a gap for the players and recruits. I still think that Butch Jones would be the best candidate, as I don't think Holtz has taken his program to the same level of success that we'd like to see UC at.

I think it will still be Sumlin personally. He probably just said that he didn't want to leave Houston until after the bowl game and said there would be no interview so that his team wouldn't be distracted. Hence us not hiring anyone yet and announcing that Quinn would coach the Sugar Bowl. I think after the Bowl season Sumlin will be named coach.

UC can't afford to wait that long. If Sumlin says that, either he doesn't want to go to UC, or he's being PC, and talking to UC reps behind the scenes.

There is one web site reporting that there will be a new coach within the next 7 days, according to their sources.

I think they have to move quicker personally. If they wait, the good talent is going to get snapped up.
