Yes I am very content with the job the coach has done. I am not content with the job the university has done in regards to athletics. Cronin has to do his job with substandard facilities in a substandard league with a substandard budget that has a substandard fan base. Yet you demand elite results from him. I tell you what, open up your god damn pocketbook and pay for the shit that is needed. Pay for the plane to go recruit. Pay for the new practice facility (Instead of the basement they practice in). Pay for the new arena (Instead of the multipurpose gym they play in) Convince the ACC to let them in. But every ticket so that every game is a sellout. Once you do all that, then you can complain. Cronin is overachieving every single year he is forced to play with the crap hand this university has dealt him. Fire him and you'll see very quickly, truly what mediocre really is.

Stop making excuses for him. For God's sakes. He makes enough for himself to where he doesn't need his fan base doing it for him. Huggins played in the same lame arena with the same lame practice facilities and a lame conference. This is what contentment brings. Excuses abound. I expect more out of the program. Temple was in far worse shape than we ever have been and Chaney always has his team ready for March. Why can't Cronin?

Isn't this crap what bearcatnews is for?

And Huggins had the same March embarassments. Except as 1 and 2 seeds. GFY

Also never said I was content with where the program is. I said I was content with the job Cronin has done. His job performance is commensurate with the hand he has been dealt. Get him the advantages that other programs have and the bar raises. I want national championships. UC is currently hamstringing that goal no matter who the coach is.

Check coach K's history since 2005. One elite 8, and tied for the most losses of a top 3 seed against a double digit seed in tournament history. Can't win it all every year. Talent is too even these days. If you wanna be an unrealistic ass then GFY

Oh and he won a thing called a National Title which is something UC hasn't won since the 60's. I'd take that for a "down" period.

That's more a point to show how college basketball is better than ever. With all the resources, talent, and 3 extra players on the court, Duke can't even finish in the top every year but we expect to? Let's get real a little

I'm glad you care about the program. Regardless of your feelings towards Cronin, the program needs people to care. So that is good. I agree with the poster that said our coaching staff is overachieving based on what resources they have, and if the results truly upset you then I would direct that energy towards the AD.

This morning I wrote Mike Bohn an email describing my frustration with the university. Might not do a thing, but it was better time spent than posting it here. I know that the men's bball pgm is more of a priority than many components of the athletic dept as a whole, but I believe that they deserve more because it is such an identity of the university. Whether or not UC lands in a different conference, the powers-that-be must help Mick or whoever is coaching this team by making investments in facilities and resources. Even X has a private jet available to the staff to go on recruiting visits.

It's not difficult to have a couple good years, but if you want to have a sustained run of success, the money has to be there. That means people like you and me need to support with our wallets. The university wanted a practice bubble badly enough they campaigned for donations. Maybe they need to do a better job fund raising, I am not sure. It just needs to get done, because there are lots of people like us who identify with the basketball program and want it to succeed at a high level.

We don't need the best team money can buy (great line from Blue Chips) but at least we have to give the coaches a chance to compete with the universities that have deeper pockets.

I read a post by BearcatJeff that made a lot of since. Cincinnati fans see their sports as entertainment these days and are cool to keep it that way. Those that oversee our teams know that and feel no need to strive for perfection. Back in my day, things were different and it is hard to let go for some. We always expected the Reds to be in the World Series and expected our Bengals to compete for a Superbowl. And believe it or not, there was a time when this city bled Kentucky blue and expected results. Now people are ok with Marvin Lewis as long as we win enough to get to the playoffs. We are ok with Cronin as long as he gets to the dance. We are ok with the Reds (though this is slowly changing) as long as we compete for a spot in October. Not that those coaches and teams do not care, because I know they do. But it is about what a team is capable of being and what kind of base are they willing to build on. I think Mick wants to win like no other. Is he capable and is he getting the help he needs? This is where I think fans and management lose interest. We now hope, not expect. I struggled with the change in attitude a bit over the years but have come to see bearcat basketball for what it is, like all sports. A Friday night out. Want rabid fans, look somewhere else. I know I will get killed for this but its my opinion.

I understand your point, and agree about the Bengals. I don't believe the majority of Bearcat basketball fans just want to be entertained , especially when they win games scoring in the 50s and low 60s. That is definitely not entertainment. Now if you said the same about the football program I would agree.

This is garbage. The only person happy with Marvin Lewis' results is Mike Brown. Dusty got fired for not getting it done and the fans were glad for it. Cronin is doing a fine job, but don't tell me fans are ok with mediocrity. That's BS. Cronin is over achieving. Marvin and Dusty were not
