I just don't see how kj will get minutes if he doesn't play the point, SK is going to play 30+ mpg. if he doesn't play point then he better be red shirted IMO.

Jeff is right, he is no PG. I've seen him play a few times, he would need to be redshirted if they wanted him to become a PG, he is a scorer and doesn't have the intangibles a PG needs right now. He is a SG when you see him play, he just fits the bill. Also, basketball.com, redshirting doesn't require being a hater. SK was redshirted and he turned out to be a pretty good player.

Saying he doesn't see him getting minutes as a freshman does not make you a hater. Everyone knows all the freshman can play; the question is will they? The general sentiment is that Troy is looking at playing point. Assuming neither of them is redshirted, I would assume Morman and KJ will split minutes behind Kilpatrick.

If they are capable of contributing and playing defense at a D-1 level, Mick will find minutes for them. How quickly they can adjust to a much more intense practice and games will determine when they play.

Quit being a KJ Hater! We had problems scoring last year, the more people that can put the ball in the bucket the better! He sees the floor just like the rest of the players, you better check his BIO and get on team KJ, the Cincinnati Kid. The players love him. Just sit back and watch.

You need to simmer down on your KJ Erection. I like the kid and think he has potential, that's why I am saying we should red shirt him if he primarily plays SG, because SK is going to get around 33 MPG leaving JD3 and KJ fighting for 7 minutes. It would be a waste to not red shirt him if he isn't going to play PG because he wont get any minutes. Make no mistake I love what the kid has to offer.

The fact that you red shirt someone shows that you respect them enough to keep them on scholarship for an extra year, if you are going to come on a college basketball message board know your stuff.

From the video I have seen on him...he seems to have good handles, quickness and did some great passing. Yes it was a limited amount of video.

What are the intangibles are you referring to?

FYI, SK was the only one in that list that was a voluntary redshirt. Also I believe Gaines was redshirted. In general I'm not a fan of redshirting unless the player has a lot of potential and isn't current room for PT, which sounds like that may be KJ's situation.

You are so incorrect, and you shall see!:)

I Know my stuff that's why I am on here to let you know that somebody is in trouble and it's not KJ!

Is this serious? This is a UC message board for fans to chat about something they are obviously passionate about... I did not know people had to have certain qualifications to post on here? Quit acting superior than other people because of what you think you know and just keep your low blows to yourself. It gets old reading that stuff

Just wondering, why does it matter if it was voluntary? I'm a massive fan of redshirting. It is a hard concept to convince and 18 year old that sitting out this season is a good idea. However, it generally works out best for the player and the program.

A few things to remember. 1) they are highlights, so you don't get to see his lowlights. I saw him play really well twice and really bad once. It was the same team that played him the last two times I've seen him. The first time, the team he played was in a 2-3 zone. The second time, they pressed and KJ had to make a lot more PG decisions. He struggled to make good decisions and got in lots of foul trouble. His handles are good, but struggles to set other people up for good shots, and that is the biggest responsibility of a PG. You wanna PG who gets lots of assists, makes smart decisions with the ball, and can be a vocal floor general. KJ is a scorer and if you give him time to set up he can knock down shots from all over the floor and get down the lane, where he is most efficient. If you redshirted him and let him learn how to play PG effectively, he could be good, but I think if you had him play SG and Caupain can develop into a good PG, that's a deadly combo. You can't how to play PG with only a month left before the season, so that's why if we ever see him as a PG, it will be after a redshirt.

How many times have you seen him play again??? I bet you haven't see him play 3 times, he is a good player, but not a PG yet or maybe ever. If you want to see him at his best this year, he will be playing SG.

Unless they all show they are going to be getting decent minutes I would be a fan of redshirting for sure.

I am not going to predict who that would be (because we haven't seen enough of them yet) but if we are basing it off of assumptions it would probably be either Mormon or Johnson. Not that either of them isn't talented ...much to the contrary.

Assumptions right now are that GG and TC are options 1 and 2 at the PG. That may not be correct but assuming it is there would probably be only about 5 available minutes there. Assuming SK plays up to 35 minutes there will only be about 5 available minutes at the 2 guard.

We know Davis and KJ are probably not going to play much 3 spot but they play could 3 guards if they are just too good to be left off the court. I assume it may be Lawrence, Thomas and Rubles who we will have on the court the most so there may only be 5-10 miutes left at those positions. JJ could also man a little of the 4 depending if we have serviceable 5's.

So we can't redshirt Davis or Thomas. Probably won't redshirt Sanders or Guyn. The two most likely would be Johnson or Mormon and maybe neither will happen and it's too early for me to predict who that might be. I would like to give them both the benefit of the doubt (not that I doubt either of them) and I think suggesting who it's going to be (if any) is a diservice to that player.

Because following the statement of who redshirts, he said:

"The fact that you red shirt someone shows that you respect them enough to keep them on scholarship for an extra year"

Cash and Shaq's redshirt had nothing to do with respect, it had to do with injury. Pretty much same situation with JDIII. Gaines on the other hand was redshirted voluntarily and we see where that got everyone.

It can help, i.e. SK. He greatly benefited from that extra year, and I think JD3 will greatly benefit also, even if it was due to injury. And Shaq was redshirted due to eligibility issues, not injury. The NCAA ruled that he had to sit out a year and we decided to redshirt so that it wasn't a wasted year.

injury or eligibility, my point was obviously that it wasn't by choice. I agree it can help. Whether it helped SK is also debatable. Who is to say he wouldn't have had a greater career if he played that year. Probably not, but its debatable IMO.

It helps some times. Just depends on the situation.

Agreed, it is definitely something that should be taken on a case-by-case basis.

Calling it out right now Bearcat Spaniard and basketball.com is the same guy that was ralph and bearcatmick last year.

Well I've seen him play over hundreds of games and not just 2 or 3 and everyone has there own opinion! That's why you are not the coach!

How many time have you all seen Troy play, probably never! It's all good lets just sit back and see, we are down to about 23days!
