Kiel or Moore?

KIEL

Coach T has already stated that Kiel will be the QB. That he will not lose his position because of an injury.

Tuberville mentioned QB competition now. Gunner Kiel and Hayden Moore will compete and we'll see who starts at BYU. #Bearcats @FOX19

I mean I still think Keil is the better option but at least if keil struggles we have moore in the wings. You could also make the argument that going ahead and handing moore the keys is better for our future. But I think keil is the better option there is no doubt he has turned the ball over at an alarming rate but i think he gives us the best option to win. But there is no doubt you can make arguments for both it sure will be interesting to see how it plays out

well he also said that they are going to have to compete and that moore could win the starting job going into byu. He said he dont like guys losing jobs over injuries but he also basically said keil gonna have to earn his job back

Coachspeak, he will not show his hand until he absolutely has to.

I think Kiel starts, for the reason he is the starting QB, but on a shorter leash

No doubt in my mind we will see Keil as the starter if he is healthy. However, the two big problems we have had all season have been turnovers and defense. Keil will definitely have to make better decisions now that Tubberville can be confident in his back up.

Now we just need a defensive coordinator that can fix the other problem...although we looked better last night.

It's too early for the UC Quarterback Curse to take Moore so I say Kiel.

Moore might just be a better player than Kiel. I haven't been impressed with Gunner since the Toledo game and part of the OSU game last year. He's been too overhyped.

Sometimes Kiel looks magnificent and worth the hype and other times he looks clueless and on top of it he plays reckless. We haven't seen enough of Moore to really say he's more or less talented but I've seen enough of Kiel to say he hasn't lived up to the hype and there's probably a reason he's bounced around programs. He was highly hyped out of high school and understandably so, but hype doesn't match results on the field. He lost out on his chance at Notre Dame and I'll trust Brian Kelly's opinions on developing QB's. At this point he's four years removed from high school and has one more year to figure it out. The results on the field this year didn't really show any improvement over last year. Maybe some of that is play calling or the coaching staff's ability to make him better, etc. but throwing bad pick sixes hangs squarely on the shoulders of the QB. Until Moore plays worse than what Kiel has played I don't take him out.

More of Moore I say. Without a doubt, he is my leading QB. Kiel makes too many mistakes throughout a game that hurt us. He also holds onto the ball too long after dropping back to pass. Moore seems to be finding players open and that's a credit to him and his vision. Moore's lone mistake was an INT that I think did lead to a TD but it was not in the red zone or as we were in the midst of a long drive. Moore also seems to be more elusive.

To me, it's Moore. I like Kiel but Moore has shown pocket presence that Kiel has not. Moore has a higher ceiling because they're already playing at the same level... The difference today if these guys did:

Moore:
23-38 (60.5%)
217 yards
2 TD, 3 INT

Kiel:
23-38 (60.5%)
217 yards
2 TD, 3 INT

Identical numbers but I would forgive Moore for these stats but Kiel would be questioned. Moore, at a minimum, gets more experience while still performing at the same level as Kiel. No brainer.

I think Gunner is a solid QB and could potentially play in the NFL if he works hard. Remember, this is only his second season actually playing. He needs to work on some things like staring his receivers down and throwing into double coverage, but he did tie the all-time passing TD record in his first season.

I agree with what you're saying. He also needs to be able to physically take hits. It won't be any better in the NFL. His injuries are unfortunate but he does us no good when can only play half of our games.

Gunner was projected as a top 3 QB pick in 2017. I am sure he and the players are aware of his pro potential. Benching a guy with potentially high draft stock is very risky in terms of player morale and recruiting. Especially when the player getting benched loses his job to injury. I don't think this is a "no brainer" decision.

IMO Gunner should get the start when he is healthy. I think it is in our programs best interest if we succeed with Gunner. Could be good for Gunner to have serious competition behind him.

Solid points. Totally agree.

Gunner has shown zero ability to play all 4 quarters consistently. Last year it was more excusable bc he hadn't played in 2 years, but this year is more of the same. I'd be reluctant to go back to him bc it is just asking for instability at the position. It helps knowing that Moore is more than capable of putting up as a replacement. But all things being about equal, I'd rather go with the guy without the injury concerns.
