Kiel or Moore?

2 different podcasts I listen to weighed in on this...

Championship Drive was talking about the bad QBs at Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn. They couldn't believe that Moore got out of the state of Alabama and they said they think he could start over any of the guys at those schools right now.

The other was Pregame.com First Preview. They talk all things betting, and they were previewing the UC/BYU game tonight. One of the guys said he doesn't see any way how Kiel gets his job back. They went on to say that Tuberville was right when he was talking about Moore's talent and that he just looks great.

Pretty high praise. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I am certainly impressed by Moore but this would be a tough way to lose a job IMO. Keil had the #20 passer efficiency rating in NCAA last year. In a year where he was playing hurt most of the time. Only Pike and Mauk finished higher in the last 10 years or so (includes another season by Pike, two by Collaros and Kay was in there). Not bad company there. He does some frustrating things sure...but damn...the coaches should be able to help with most of it.

Oh well...I guess we will be looking pretty good either way

Saw on twitter and an article on the Enquirer that Kiel is upset and went to TT saying he wants to play. Apparently Kiel asked TT what more he has to do to get back playing. I would probably start by saying "you need to play an entire game without getting hurt."

Sounds like Moore won the job fair and square. Not fair to bench him bc of a tough road loss where he had no protection.

Kiel will be QB

Mark it down. Kiel will be the QB. Over the past year, Kiel won the QB position. You should not lose it due to an injury. He will be the QB for the rest of the year.

Who cares at this point? UC football where apathy sets in by October.

Many people care, especially those discussing. If you don't feel free to ignore the conversation. If UC fans become apathetic so quickly after a few losses then that is quite sad.

IMO the best quarterback should play. I see the argument of not losing the starting job because of injury but I'm not really a huge believer in it. Kiel was struggling big time prior to his injury. It's one thing if he was lighting the world on fire. Plus he can't stay healthy through a whole game. At what point does it start to hurt the team when your starting QB can't make it through a game?

Plus, I hesitate to even say he lost his job to injury. He was healthy through the bye, and lost the competition.

Kiel will start this week. Kiel will start every week he is healthy enough to fully participate in practice and game preparation. Kiel didn't play Friday because he didn't get cleared to practice in time for the full game plan that had been implemented.

Say what you will about the execution of that game plan or the plan itself, it's fair to say Kiel wasn't prepared to play against BYU, which leads to this question:

What did the coaches do so differently in the game plan with the Bye that Kiel couldn't grasp after three years in the system?

If I were Keil I would be upset too provided he was capable of playing.

I'm not sure if TT lost the locker room after the way the game ended against BYU but it sounds like he might have lost the offensive line in the locker room prior to the game. 8 sacks? I would be interested in knowing what the players feel about it. If Keil is popular overall with the team...sitting him might not have gone over well.

I have no idea how popular Keil or Moore are...just curious

Sorry waterhead, but that is a little bit ridiculous. He lost the offensive line because he started one quarterback over another? Not a chance. The offensive line struggled against a really good d-line, but a few of those sacks were on Moore (or the receivers) for holding the ball too long. There was at least one b/c the RB (Green or Williams) failed to pick up the blitzer.

I can guarantee you that the oline would give everything they've got to protect any QB that is behind them.

Fair enough. I agree the line would not intentionally do that. It doesn't have to be an intentional change to have an effect. If you don't "buy into" what your coach is doing...it can have a subtle affect on some players attitudes which hurts performance.

I am not suggesting the coach HAS already lost the locker room...and I certainly hope it is not the case. I was just thinking out loud so to speak

Yea, I just think you were looking too much into it. Considering Moore has been incredibly good, especially for a freshman, in his appearances prior to BYU (and he was still decent against BYU), I highly doubt that the oline even gave it two thoughts. Again, the oline went against a good dline and half the sacks weren't on the oline.

Kiel has been great. But his big games have come against teams like Alabama A&MM, UConn, and UCF. Definitely inflates his #s.

Myopic view, he got hurt in the Memphis and Miami OH games and did not start at BYU and Miami U and the only other game that he played other than the ones you mentioned was Temple.

He had 4 picks in the Temple game, a 1st Q pick 6 vs Memphis, and had us in a position to lose to Miami OH. So again, his big games came against bottom of the barrel D1 teams. At this point, I'm not saying he shouldn't play. Clearly Tuberville wants to give him a chance when he's 100% healthy. I'm just saying maybe slow down on awarding him the Heisman Trophy. UCF and UConn are awful, awful teams. He needs to bring it @Houston next week before I fully buy back in.

I understand that...and I knew that was coming. However there are a lot of qbs in the country who play bad schedules but Kiel is still #10 in the nation. And there are other qbs playing against better opponents but have 5 star talent to work with.

Bottom line is he looked better than Moore even though I think Moore will be great for us in two years.

Let's see it from Kiel this week @Houston and we can put this convo to bed.

I'm not going to pin what I think of Kiel on the next game or even the last two. All he needed was a wake up call. He had the 20th best passers rating in the country last year in his first full year of starting and he played through injury. The kid can play. I think he understands now that he's not irreplaceable.
