Lance at PG?

Top 5? Seriously? ROY is usually the rookie who gets the most minutes. I'll bet for sure he is not in the top 3, sorry fellas, but like you guys were saying "if he has his shot" he is going to be good. You think that he will just magically improve his shooting stroke? Legit NBA defenders are far better then what he faced yesterday. You guys are getting far too caught up in the summer league game. You can tell how good a player will be in the NBA summer league just barely better then you can tell how someone will be from watching the college summer league around here.

We'll see if I'm wrong, but top 3 rookie of the year vote getting will be tough. He won't be able to get "his shots" in the NBA, especially because of his team. If he is going to be good, teams can focus on him and Granger and shut them down. I will take that top 3 bet.

The thing is he won't have to settle for jump shots in the NBA. The Pacers are bad enough and unathletic enough to give Lance minutes. If they put him at the point he will have the ball in his hands even more. With one-on-one defenders he will get to create his shot and get closer to the rim or a shot off a move. His percentage is much higher in those scenarios than standing around waiting to be open and taking a jump shot. And he plays in the East, where there is a fair amount of average talent he'll be going against.

I wanna make it clear Great1- I do think LS will get signed. He looked very good in Summer League play. Ill be interested in how well he can attack against starting bigs in the NBA though. And I think playing PG will be the best thing for Lance and his future.

Now, being a one and done and not having the best year--do any of you think he will come back and watch any home games in the future? Personally- I think he is glad to be gone and wont look back

I think Lance enjoyed his time at UC and said as much when he decided to go pro. As far as his contract is concerned, I read somewhere (I'll try to find it) that Lance should sign his rookie contract later this week ($473K per year if I remember right).

Oh shoot thats huge for him, didnt know that.

The Indiana Pacers are trying to find out if Brooklyn’s Lance Stephenson can run the point for them.

So far, so good.

The 6-foot-5 rookie out of Cincinnati scored 21 points, adding four rebounds and three assists, to spark the Pacers to an 86-77 victory over the host Magic Monday in the Orlando Pro Summer League.

Indiana faces the Nets and No. 3 overall pick Derrick Favors at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“We were very pleased with what Lance did at both ends of the court,” said assistant coach Frank Vogel. “We know he can score the basketball but he had a lot of very nice passes. He only had three assists but he probably set up his teammates seven or eight times. And defensively he did a nice job.”

Pacers coach Jim O’Brien previously told the Indianapolis Star the team was auditioning Stephenson at the point.

“In order to be the type of offensive player we would like for him to be, he’s got to think score first, and when that’s taken away make the appropriate pass,” O’Brien said. “I think he has the ability to do that and we’re going to find out this week whether we should grow his game more at the point or more at the [shooting guard position], or a combination of both of them.”

Stephenson is expected to sign a contract next week worth the rookie minimum of $473,604.

First-round pick Paul George had 12 points and four rebounds in his debut but shot 2-of-7 overall, 1-of-5 from the 3-point line and had six fouls and three turnovers. Second-round pickup Magnum Rolle had 13 points and five rebounds but like George had six fouls.

Lance is the best talent UC has had in years. He was misused terribly last year because Mick was trying to keep him around for another year. He thought if he slow played Lance and limited his minutes he would be more willing to come back.

This is one of the most ignorant comments I've read in a while. A coach who is being criticized left and right about getting to the postseason is going to hold back his best player? Read everything MC has said about Lance and he has said from the get go that he knew Lance was a one and done.

And, not to let the facts get in the way of your argument, Lance was second on the team in MPG (28.2) and started 32 of the 34 games he played.

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Yeah, I disagree on this one, too. Mick wanted the world from Lance. Lance simply struggled in the college style game. The slow pace, zone defenses and lack of help around him made Lance (and everyone on this team) a jump shooter. Vaughn running the point and Gates ineffectiveness underneath forced this team into that style. When Lance did get a chance to do his thing it was often against two or three defenders and he often turned the ball over.

In addition to what the previous poster mentioned, if Lance would have been successful, Mick would've looked like a much better coach and he might have landed some high profile recruits this offseason because he could turn out a stud. I think if anything Mick played Lance too much at times hoping he would break out and go nuts. Lance having a huge year last year would have meant so much for this program and for Mick. Mick knew that and that's why Lance kept getting the green light to do whatever he wanted with the ball.

A lot of people dont like Mick and some with reason. Then there are a lot of people like you who blame everything on mick and even make things up....I mean seriously, you think Mick tried to misuse Lance so that he would have to come back the next year?!?! Ah boy..

15 points on 7-10 shooting, 3 rebounds and 3 dimes in 30 minutes yesterday. Really slow start but he was very efficient. I saw a lot of great passes by him that his teammates didn't finish or got fouled (McRoberts kept jacking up 3s and missed most of them). Lookin' good so far. Paul George looks good as well.

Mick definitely misused Stevenson, but he didn't do it to keep him another year... I wish Lance all the best in the NBA, his game is really well suited for the league.

I can agree on this. Hey may not have used him correctly, but it is foolish to think he planned to do so to sway Lance to stay for another year.

LanceMcAlister Lance Stephenson 19 pts in 29-min last night for Pacers. Now 21 of 28 in 3 games.
