Last season are team had 5 guys that could score with Yancy and Dion. Yancy averaged 10 reb a game. This yr we Don't have a low post threat. Rubles has shown flashes but is inconsistent. If some of are younger players don't start showing some scoring ability this is going to be a long frustrating season!!

What's funny is that last year 90% of the people on this board blamed Yancy Gates as the reason why this team struggled when it did. All you ever heard was how slow and lazy Gates was, he didn't try and he didn't care and he was a bad influence blah blah blah. So many people looked forward to this season as the year we'd take a big step forward now that we were free from the trappings of mean old Yancy.

Now all you hear is everyone saying we're struggling because we don't have a presence like Yancy.

Amazing how that is. All you read was Yancy is lazy, yada, yada, yada.

Its irrelevant to do any what ifs or comparisons because last years team isn't this years team. Yancy played great his final 8-10 games of his career as a bearcat. For me, that's how I like to think of Yancy and I'll leave it at that.

It's a new year and a new team. The team is much better this year they are just going through a funk.

Relax. Don't be overly dramatic. It's January

The fact that we are now lacking his inside presence does not negate the fact that he was slow and lazy.

They had a stretch last year in late January where they lost 3 in row (W.Virginia, Cuse, and Rutgers). If history holds, they will hit their stride in mid Febuary into March.

Exactly. Now everyone can see it wasn't Yancy, it's Mick's offense. Enough blaming the old players (first it was Vaughn, then Stephenson, then Yancy)...the results are the same without any of them.

Mick needs an offensive coordinator badly. Maybe Eddie Gran can do double duty.

UC played well on offense vs ND, did you look at the stats?

Just a friendly reminder that at this time last year, the team was 12-4 and at one point, we were 15-7. I think some people on this board need to relax a little bit.

I get the offense needs work and I'm not exactly enamored with the strategy but our guys have time to get it toghether...and the past two seasons, we have.

I don't think too many people are suggesting that this team is going to go in the crapper and not make the NCAA. It could happen, but most on here don't expect it. And while there may be some heated arguments, I doubt many people aren't relaxed. I think the offensive scheme is terrible and I think it will hold them back. Though I'm not sure Cronin has a better scheme that he could implement.

That said, these boards are for discussions and I think they've been pretty good. I have concerns with the offense for a number of reasons:

1) It becomes tough to win and be consistent when your offense is so poor. It affects your defense as well.
2) Watching a crappy offense isn't very enjoyable. I said it when they were scoring 90 points against cupcake teams. Even if this offense did score a lot of points, it isn't enjoyable to watch players go one on one non-stop.
3) Attendance. see above. I thought we were over terrible offenses when Huggins left.
4) Recruiting. What recruits want to play in an offense that struggles to put up 60 points?

Yeah. I pretty much agree with all of that. To act like we're doomed and will fall apart I think is unfounded, which like you say, is probably not where most people are at. I do believe some are (especially considering some fans I heard on Monday night...probably the crankiest/pissy I can remember the crowd in the last few years). Regardless, Mick has gotta coach 'em up again and turn it around for the third year in a row. We've reached lows in the past couple of seasons (2011-12: XU fight, Yancy suspension; being 15-7 and the year before that, Yancy being benched and almost suspended after the St. John's loss capping off a stretch where we lost 6 out of 10). Maybe this is our new low.

Most pressing in my mind to turn things around is:

-Push and attack the basket. This is really what's saved us the past two years and I think is probably the easiest change to make.
-Find ability to get in and score in the paint consistently. Park ain't doing it well. JJ ain't doing it. Rubles isn't doing it well 90% of the time. Shaq has promise. But mostly, Mbodj and Nyarsuk need to man up.
-Get open shots for SK, Cash and Parker even if it involves having an Option B offense
-Park getting his head out of his rear. I think he caught people by surprise last year. He's great at driving to the hoop and finishing but people are looking for that this year, and he really hasn't shown the ability to stop and pop or dish it off.
-SK getting out of shooting slump
-Ideally, I'd say stop this dribble-drive crap but I know that's not happening.

60 points?

Notre Dame scored 66 and all the media comments were about how great and fantastic ND ran offense during the game, UC scored 6 points less and 5 of those 6 points were free throws. If ND has a great offense then UC's is just a small notch behind.

Ralphy, ND has mediocre defense at best. We should've scored 70-75 points on them.

ND supposedly has the best offense in the Big East and they only scored 66.

That is true, the defense was good considering the circumstances. But we need to score more against them-a crappy Seton Hall team put up 74 against them.
